But isn't the SA-X just a "normal" x that infected samus's suit? The x gain the strength and knowledge of their ocupants, so it would make sense.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
Not to mention the Fusion manual explicitly states that the Chozo created the Metroids to combat the X, so the X has to predate both Metroids and the Chozo's ascendancy.
Gamespot put up a few new images, and I noticed something in one of them: The suit's colors remind me of Dark Samus, making me think that this is either Samus in corrupted form or a new kind of Phazon suit that she will get. I'm doubting that it's the corrupt Samus we're seeing here because I don't see anything indicating Samus is in Hyper Mode at this point.

the aspect ratio is bizarre.

(go videophile response to that pic.)
16:9 is bizzare?

(OK, so it's off by a few pixels... that's probably just an artifact of capturing it or processing it or some such.)
no, remember that i'm used to seeing metroid prime games in 4:3 all the time, this being the first ever shot of its kind i've seen.
Fair enough.

I've been thinking on this for a while, and I think when you get down to it, widescreen is more "accurate" for a FPS, sense you can generally see more to the sides than up and down, although it's of course still restrictive since it doesn't wrap around.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption:

    * Players will not have to re-gain all of their abilities. (Holy Cannoli, apparently this isn’t news but it is to me and it excites me in the pants.)
    * Players will have a corruption mode, similar to hyper mode, that will only be available to use for a limited amount of time. (Think symbiote spidey in SM3.)
    * Players will not have to switch beams, as they combine. (Think 2-D Metroid.)
    * The developers are working closely with Nintendo themselves to include some sort of online functionality. (Don’t get your hopes up, the way the PR worded it it sounded like it was more WiiConnect oriented than Multiplayer)
    * Planned to be released this year, “sooner than most are expecting.” (Oh snap.)

The only part of that info that's new is not having to regain abilities, but based on footage we've seen, they'd have to have changed the game some to make it so - I seem to recall needing to get the missiles  in the demo level.

If it is so, what will the extend of the remaining abilities be?  Screw attack?  Gravity Boost?  Light and Dark Beams?  (Which contradicts stacking beams.)

This seems to be a rehash of old info along with one bit of useless if not inaccurate info.
They just may let you start out with the grapple beam, since it's not just a cheap way to create another impassable area that requires an item anymore. I bet you start out with the morph ball and bombs already. Maybe.

Hopes up? Certainly not, I'm very glad there won't be a multiplayer. What'd be equally as disappointing, though, is if this WiiConnect24 bit will include automatic updates, thus preventing Sequence Breaks m2k2 finds.
it will not prevent anyone here from doing anything, of that i am sure.

Well, it kind of would, as they'd just immediately fix any Breaks we find. Somehow, though, I doubt they'd do that: just seems like a huge waste of time/effort on their part.
Has anyone actually had any Wii game get an update yet? I can't think of any, honestly. (Or else it just doesn't tell us if a game gets an update or not.)
it's called disconnecting the console from the internet.
What was posted above is currently just a rumor.  As is what follows.  Some people can be very imaginative.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Release Date – 08/20/2007

My experience playing this game demonstrated that Wii is capable of graphics far superior to what has been seen to date, and vast improvements have been made over the original build for this title. You will finally say “wow” when you see this game.

More importantly, Metroid will be a Wi-Fi title. There is no competitive online mode or multiplayer but WiiConnect 24 plays a large role. Metroid Prime 3 is slated to be the final entry in to the Prime series and is meant to carry fans over for quite some time. As such, new missions will become available for download on a regular basis (I have no idea how often a “regular basis” is). In addition, new suits and weapons are also going to be available for download. No detailed information was provided beyond this, but as explained to me, the purpose is to provide an experience that will be “ever evolving and changing so that the game may become entirely new over time.” This aspect of the game was why it was delayed for so long.

As to the other discussion, it appears that Retro has realized how much of a filler item grapple was in the previous games.  It looks like we won't be able to skip it this time around. ;)  At least they are making it interesting by giving it some nice stacked abilities.  On a related note, some believe that the black hand/arm is not from corruption, but is related to how many of grapple's abilities you have.

The playable levels seen thus far are very linear.  This would be indicitive of the beginning of the game.  By the size of this linear introduction, I don't believe that there are any sizable parts of the intro yet to be seen.  Hence, if you have seen any of the videos, you know that you do start out with many basic items (and have to pick up one or maybe two).
