Err.. what..?
Are you kidding? =\

Turn around, aim up, and shoot.
I had trouble opening that too... did manage to get it, but I have no idea what I did differently.

I must have shot it with super missiles three dozen times.  One time it just inexplicably opened.
I've had that problem come up in my hack with one particular gate. I think it's caused by having solid blocks where the shootable PLM is. I know that PLM overwrites whatever blocks it's on, but it's only the gate I had where it covered over a solid block that didn't want to open, all others have been fine.

I REdid the reload/teleport trick.

How do I get past the metroids without ice-beam?  Obviously I need Ice-Beam.

And if I can't get past them without it -- how do I get back to where I need to go to get it?

Or should I just start over?

Edit2, and Edit2 again for sure!

I'll just have to search for Ice-Beam.  Time to learn super short charge/stutter walking because I highly doubt I'll get the gravity jump to work in the ripper room.  That's the only item and place I haven't been to and gotten yet.  :x

Edit3: Wow.  I managed to do it.

Now I have to suitless wall jump in a one block wide gap (which should make it easier except...) I'm doing it totally blind.  Crying or Very sad
Just got SA early!

I know any idot that can ibj has prolly found it but whatever.

Last major item was Gravity and i have no idea where to go.
4:57 (I suck), 72%.

Any comments pretty much echo those already made.  It's a great hack that could, with a little more polish, have been an all-timer.  There's a little too much backtracking, although I love the way the central hub was implemented.  The teleport thing was indeed way too random and I had to download the fix patch, as were a few hidden passages (I never would have found my way to SJ had I not looked it up).  The beam pirates are awesome, although it would have been nice if they would have fallen with stacked beams, to avoid quite so much switching (if they are vulnerable to ice, why not still vulnerable to ice with wave also equipped?).

The difficulty was perfect.  Not too easy, not tear-your-hair out hard.  I used some save states but never had to use slowdown.  And I'm better at underwater grapple than I've ever been thanks to playing your hack!

Big thumbs up overall.

My time is long because I had an excessively hard time in the ripper room.  I have alot to say about this hack.

PRAISE:  This hack was full of 'wow' moments because there were truly NEW additions.  In the smile FAQ it says that with enough knowledge virtually anything is possible in hacking.    I don't claim to know how to hack this game nor do I claim to know the extent of what knowledge is required, but nearly every hack thus far seems to have stayed within a limit of what can/can't be done.  Some hacks step slightly over this limit, some slightly under.  But this hack seemed to break the rules.  The beam pirates, the teleporter, and the block-destroying baby metroid were way cool, especially the baby metroid.  You start to realize quickly that this game is different, forcing you to think much more outside of the box than other hacks.  For me this greatly increases the fun, almost like playing SM for the first time.  I also love the way that the release seemed to come out of left-field, assuring that the new ideas wouldn't have been spoiled in any way through too many teasers or posts.

CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM:  This hack was basically beta-tested by everyone - not good.  There were numerous slope errors, permastuck holes, a missing item in the first patch,  and unforeseen sequence breaks leaving people up shit creek without a gravity suit.  The game simply wasn't ready to be released, and problems that became apparent from the beginning kept me wary as I played, I was in constant doubt if something was right or not.  While I praised the teleporter for being a new idea, it also was a potentially cruel one.  Someone might not ever reload their game from anything but a save state, and never figure that one out.  But then again, now that the idea is not new anymore people might be looking out for it in future games.  The no-map idea did not appeal to me.  Maybe for one area wouldn't be so bad, but not having a map at all for the entire game did nothing but make me wish it was there.  The ripper room pissed me off, but it seems I was the one that had the hardest time with it.

OVERALL:  Despite its lack of polish, this hack has expanded my expectations of future hacks since it definitely proved to me that more can be done to the game.  Definitely raised the bar, can't wait to see what bloodsonic does next!

I finally gave this hack a bit of playtime. Bloodsonic, this hack is badass in my opinion. It needed some polishing of course, but you can always release an update or two with that later (at least I hope you do). I haven't finished this hack yet, but I am enjoying it. Oh and I am probably the ONLY person here that likes your no map idea. Complete homage to Metroid 1 and Metroid 2. I honestly think that more SM hacks should have no map and I'm sticking to that opinion.

Good stuff man. Best thing I've played SM wise since Cliffhanger.
I agree on the no map thing and I meant to say so.  It's a nice homage to M1 and M2, just as the beam pirates are a great homage to MP.

BTW, what is the max %?  DMantra seems to be the standard bearer thus far at 84%.  At 72% I only know of one pack of PB's and one reserve tank that I saw but didn't bother to get.  I admittedly didn't do much item hunting for the mere sake of it though.

I item hunted the shit out of this hack. Using savestates allowed me to have a somewhat low time completion. If my searching without loadstating, I'd have at least 4-5 hours more on top.
I've got those 'I'm stuck behind an impassable Super Missile gate' blues....  Ooooh Yeeeeeah.  8-)

Finally got the patch to work, and I must say, it's a very interesting hack.  I've been playing without save states, and I just got Varia.  Interesting design choice to say the least, but how was I supposed to get back to the save station?  I assume the IBJ I ended up doing was not the correct method.
Yo.
The max is not 100%. I'm not at liberty to discuss the number of items there actually is (even though I have no idea how many items there are myself. :D BTW, it doesn't go over 100% either.)

@ Gaius_4: Lots of people have had trouble with this too... I believe they advised shooting upwards from every pixel on the horizontal. Otherwise, if it's that gate to Ice Beam, just bomb the ground again.  Idea

If you're talking about right past Ice Beam, it's just finicky. You have to find an exact place to shoot.
Meri Kurisumasu! ^_^
I just finished in 2:15, with 55% items. The only problem was that I skipped like everything (Phantoon - Kraid - Ridley - Draygon for the win), and now I don't know what was SB and what wasn't. However, I was surprised to see that this was your first hack, I had pretty low expectations.

This is actually one of the few hacks I've ever finished. Hack's that I've finished are Gravy and Redesign, unless you count other various minihacks/bosshacks/oneroomhacks.

Ha ha, I have to comment on this one.  So far it's a really cool hack.  where I'm at right now is after getting the charge beam but before the spring ball.  The thing I have to comment on is that you can play this one and "get stuck" with no obvious way to proceed but then sooner or later it hits you.  Did you try this or that here or there??  Am I forgetting to do something??  Figuring it out is fun.  I don't need help with this one as of right now, but I had to comment on a cool feature of this one.  Keep up the good work!!  :-)

I only had 4 Sms.  Thank goodness for save states and slow-mo (for exact pixel by pixel movement).

Funny enough...  The time it did work I was messing around; charging up my beam, then doing a wall jump into morph-ball, holding the charge so the bombs go flying out (to bounce around in that small space), then I fired at the gate trigger -- and it opened.  :-?

Although I'm sure I just got lucky.  Embarassed

umm... I fixed that bug and edited my first post. I'm gonna go check on that..
Woot, i just realized something, im Nº 2 in the item collection list on the first run, next to DMantra ^^

On the other hand... on time.... ._.

Well, im proud enough to say i only used savestates before bosses >=D
Could the green gate thing have something to do with the emu used?  I'm running ZSNES, 1.51 I believe, and it opened the first time for me.  I'm playing through the game again and again it opened the first time.  This is only an issue for some people?
Yo.
I betaed it on Snes9xGX (y'know, that nice port of Snes9x to the Wii) and I encountered no probs there. Perhaps it's JUST Snes9x... Any further speculation?

Just a tip: If the green gates got you stuck, switch emus, I believe.
