Other M is the game that isn't a Metroid game and never will be. Am I the only one here who paid full price for that game?
Samus Lauren
I'm sorry for your past monetary mistake.
Yeah but if you put M before Other it says Mother. Do you get it? Because I get it.
red chamber dream
of course i paid full price for it - it was a new metroid game that we all hoped might be good.

some of other m's gameplay and level design is great, but i would never call it a good game. the story and progression just drag it down too much
red chamber dream
not to mention it had some truly bizarre mechanics and controls
It has a slick and efficient combat system which is very un-metroid (but that's ok). Everything else about it is mediocre at best.

Samus Returns has a slick and efficient combat system that is very metroid.

I find it kinda funny that abbreviation is MOM. I don't know why it's just funny to me. But I do like that they used some of the combat elements from Other M in Samus Returns
please don't make me think of it that way
Amateur Speedrunner, Roleplayer
Don't think of what in what way?
Don't make me connect a game I like to Other M, an awful game that really doesn't need to be talked about anymore.

Man wasnt it great how Samus Returns introduced melee counters to Metroid and yet it still managed to keep the classic metroid feel even with that new mechanic?

yeah this is possibly my favorite thing about the game

going in, i was worried i wouldn't like the melee at all. never mind that!
Amateur Speedrunner, Roleplayer
a lot of the earlier gameplay demos made it seem like the melee counter would be hard to pull off but I got it down immediately
Eh I think it's way too good for how easy it is
Amateur Speedrunner, Roleplayer
yeah it's pretty easy... even though I mess it up a lot XD
Yeah, I think the game relies on melee too much. You start doing it in the second room and then you spend the rest of the game doing the same thing to essentially the same enemies.
red chamber dream
except not really. once i got better beams i just blast everything now

i don't. this is precisely what makes it fun. why are so many people obsessed with hard games lol. hard doesn't always mean "more fun"
I didn't say it's too easy, I said it's too good for how easy it is, because it replaces actually dodging enemies. I was so sad when I found out you can parry the little rolly guys out of their roll

Does anyone know how powerful the super missiles are in this game? is it triple like super and fusion or 5X like zero mission? (apologies if all my question get annoying. It's a bad habit I have)

I actually use missiles and the ice beam a lot because I don't have the patience to wait a split sec for enemies to burst into me

Honestly after getting wave beam/plasma beam i hardly had to use the melee counter, i just spammed my beams at everything and plowed through areas without it. I think the melee was more of an early game mechanic that was mastered so that there was a way to counter tough enemies without the strong beams later on. Because if you dont get those counters, shit will kill you lol; i died so many times just trying to rush through an area. They also make it so that you have the counter mastered before you get to TOUGH enemies, which rely on masterful countering to be able to beat them quickly and efficiently.

So no, its not too good for how easy it is, I argue that is necessary for early game survival and then can be abandoned once the good shit is acquired.

the counter really helps against the metroids
Samus Lauren
The counters against the metroids are the best freaking part.

I love the counter against the Zetas and Omegas. The one for the gammas is pretty cool too. The one for the alphas....meh :/
