[SM] Super Metroid: Stardust

I appear to be stuck in the maridia/east norfair region because I don't have speed booster to allow me to escape via Maridia. The door I entered to get here turned gray and won't opened. This door is in the purple-black red brinstar room, the top left corner. Unless I'm just missing another path out, I have no clue what to do now and I don't want to edit myself out unless I'm stuck for good.

Wow, I'm fixing that right now, sorry but your completely stuck, feel free to edit yourself out, I'll ensure no one can get stuck the same way.

Update: V1.3 is out, if you are in LN or Maridia or purple Brinstar without speed booster, please leave those areas and repatch. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Some thoughts:

This was a nice break from Eris, in that the items generally came fast and furious. It played a lot like S.F.I. as far as a comparison. You are correct that in terms of enemies, it was very, very easy. It may turn off some of the pros around here so you may want to think about a hard version with tougher enemies. I thought the level design worked well and non-linearity is always a good, good thing. Several times I thought I was stuck but careful searching led to a way forward. I thought you struck a nice balance in terms of making the paths not obvious but not overly random either. I will likely play again and try to mix up my item collection, get a better feel for the map, and shoot for a higher%. FWIW, I found X-Ray but I did not find Screw Attack. I could not get Space Jump but I assume you need to Crystal Flash, which I didn't. The color palettes looked nice I thought and the Ice Beam room was a thing of beauty. I'd like to see that mirror effect used more. Overall this was a fun little hack and one I will certainly play when I don't want to stress out too much. Nice job!

1:52, 85%, found all major upgrades including SA and X-Ray.

Very fun hack, a bit on the short side but overall very enjoyable for a hack I didn't realize was so close to completion. I liked your palette choices and room designs. A few glitchy things here and they like backgrounds in certain rooms but nothing huge. Again, very fun.

OMG FLAN!!!!!!!

I don't think I've got the most recent patch or something.
Half of Maridia is exactly the same, with random missiles in the air and such, plus there's random spots where the camera doesn't scroll. So I'm guessing those rooms you left in but weren't actually supposed to get to...?

I also had a glitch after Kraid's room and the glass tube where the door scrolls screwed up, which of course was permanent, so I started again. Been playing for about 15 mins, and I got about 50 missiles, 10 supers, 15 powers, gravity, wave, charge, highjump, morph, bombs.

This is a very fun fast-paced hack so far grin new

Lol. Never mind. I just downloaded 1.4, and it's all fixed. The last one I had was 1.2, and in the glass tube room I went up, which is where all the glitches happened.

This was fun. Nice to have an easy hack for a change of pace. Finished in 1:27, 72%. Never did find the speed booster, varia, screw attack, or x-ray...

For speed booster, If you got Varia, it's near there, if you haven't check near the first SM for the entrance to west norfair.

Screw Attack is in maridia

Sorry, but I can't say where x-ray is, after 5 people get it I will say what map it's on.

When I entered the first green area, I had black squares in front of me. Are they supposed to be there? I used v1.4 with a clean, headered ROM.

Pretty fun hack, but I think you could've used some help with your tiling. It wasn't bad and I really liked some of the rooms, in fact I'm taking one of them because of the awesomeness if you don't mind, but it just seems bad to have a few rooms spread out and around where there are quite a few noticable tiling errors.

Very fun though, and definitely worth a revisit sometime.

Comments about the hack:

I loved the large majority of the graphical edits, and room layouts. Although, in counterpoint to that, some of them looked rushed, or just generally a bit bland.

Enemies weren't silly tough, and neither were the level layouts.

Item placement seemed spot-on to me. If you just got what you're supposed to get, the hack would be tougher, but if you search just a little, then you're rewarded for it.

All-in-all, a great job, Tyjet. I played, completed, and 100%-ed it in about 5-6 hours, so that says a lot. Applause

I noticed you had a first five to get x-ray. I didn't explicitly say it in my completion post, but I found it. The only core items I missed were space jump and screw attack.

1:13 84% this time. I found xray, speed booster, and screw attack this time. I also found space jump, but never figured out how to get to it. I also found where xray was on the first playthrough, but didn't have the tools required to actually obtain it.
