I'm not sure what 98% you have so I can't help you there. The recharge station is due to it being on the map and it's difficult to move so I just left it. It doesn't really exist.

Sure. I'll do one more sweep before I do though. I don't mind missing a few Missiles, but I wanna find all of the Energy Tanks on my own.
Don't cross me, or I will kill you!

You don't have to do he hellrun. I also made it a lot more forgiving than Redesign's.

Congrats! Did you watch Quietus' run?
Yeah, I did. Really impressive stuff, Quietus! The pre-Spore Spawn room was my fave.

I'll post a review at some point, Tyjet, if you'd like feedback.

Well, not a review per se, but a stuff I liked/didn't like.

I'd love to hear what you thought. Not sure if I'll ever finish my current project though, so it may not be put to use.

Haha, sorry Quietus. I've just no interest in working on it at all. I wish I did though. =/

Nah, it's cool.  I often get major hacking droughts, where I don't touch SMILE for months at a time, and even then I lose interest before completing a room.  It certainly makes me more appreciative of the amount of work involved in some of the hacks out there, and the serious dedication it must take.
What'd you say?
Yea, the dedication some people put into hacks is amazing. Then you have the few that go above and beyond such as Drewseph.

Do you have one in the works?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I've had one in the works for years.  It's still the same, but hasn't moved in a long while.  I never even got to room building stages.  Maping and route planning was all but done, tilesets were 95% complete, and all hex was done, but then it slowed to a halt.

Really? The mapping/planning/tilesets/hex were the bits that I hated doing. I like just having a basic outline of a room and then creating it from there. Hell, if I had that, I'd bomb out a hack quickly.

Hehe, it also shows how everybody does it differently, then.  Or maybe the ever-doomed collaboration? aiwebs_011

I still want to see a high quality collaboration hack to be finished. Oh well, I can always dream.
Heh, I kinda wanna try my hand at making a hack. I've got lots of ideas, but no idea how to use SMILE. Any suggestions on where to start?

And Tyjet, feedback as promised. This is just going to be random thoughts, so bear with me.

One thing I've been wondering, does beating Spore Spawn without Gravity result in a permastuck? You can't get to the black room, and unless I missed a hidden passage, there's no way back through the Speed Booster blocks. Also, Remember how I said that I'd turned back at Mother Brain's room to find the rest of the items? When I returned to Tourian, the big Metroid event had reset; I had taken both Energy Tanks, and had to use a Crystal Flash. Maybe add an energy recharge station?

I think I read that you had speedrunning in mind when you made this hack, but some of the areas felt too small. Lower Norfair, in particular. Where was the intimidating architecture? The huge, cavernous rooms? The red Kihunters? The Holtzes? The giant Dessgeegas? I kinda felt like I was exploring a little corner of subrooms and had missed the main area.

Norfair in general wasn't as good as the rest of the hack, IMO. Crateria, Brinstar, Maridia, and the Wrecked Ship didn't really feel "small" to me, even though they were; I think you made good use of the different types of rooms and sub-areas (green Brinstar, sandy Maridia, ect.). I'm not sure how exactly to say it, but Norfair could have been better. You had a good balance between areas being interesting and varied, and easy to traverse for sequence breaking. The entrance to Maridia is kinda the point in the game that comes after everything else though, the midway point after all of the non-linearity. Because you can't reach Lower Norfair until you clear Maridia, I think you could have afforded to make it more complex, say, Speed Booster obstacles, lava pits, Morph Ball mazes, ect.

I really liked how you set up the Wrecked Ship. All you need to get there is Power Bombs, and there's a convenient Energy Tank and Super Missile on the way to Phantoon. The boss room was great, btw: minimalist, but still interesting. Early Gravity is a cool idea, and provides and alternative to the hell run, which is always a good thing. Plus, Wave was right there as well. I loved the Wave Beam room, with the standing statue on the high ledge. It's very "Wrecked Shippy" and stuff. You like purple, right? Was the suit and beam turning purple after Phantoon intentional?

Maridia was definitely my favorite part of this hack. It was so well designed, both in layout and concept. The lefthand side felt cavern-y and organic, very natural, and Draygon was well-hidden without being frustrating to find. The big tube connecting that half to the sandy area was an awesome part too. I smiled when Samus emerged from the top of the tube and the sandy music started playing. Plasma before Botwoon, hidden Screw Attack and X-ray, and...

As I headed down to Spore Spawn, then through Maridia to Lower Norfair, there was this constant feeling that I was descending, moving downward, deeper into the planet. It's mainly Maridia's downward path, I think, and it really adds to the atmosphere.

Gah, gotta go. More later.

First, register on the MetroidConstruction forum.  It's much more active for hacking, and has many guides (Docs) to help you.  There are video tutorials for a number of subjects, and written guides for lots more.  I'd suggest starting with Person701's Beginner's Guide.
What'd you say?
I didn't think of the permastuck with Spore Spawn. I doubt I put a way out there. I wasn't aware of the big metroid return, so a recharge station there is a really good idea. Not sure why I didn't put one there in the first place though.

Lower Norfair was the last area I did, and the anxious teenager me just wanted it over with. You can really tell that it's incredibly rushed. I really regret that whole area.

Added complexity at the Maridia area would've been a good idea. My main focus was to make Gravity mandatory as I didn't want to avoid countless permastuck possibilities. I do hate morphball mazes though, so that wouldn't have been used.

I'm glad you liked the Wrecked Ship. I really liked the statue room as well. The purple switch was unintentional but I was happy about it, so I kept it.

Maridia is my favorite part of the hack as well. It was really fun to make as you have so many different slopes and tiles to work with. If I ever get my new project out, Maridia will play a much larger role.

The descending aspect was unintentional, but I see what you mean about it and it works quite well.

You seem to view hacks from many angles, not just the aspects the most people view them as. You see it in a more complex way. If you ever release a hack, I would love to see how you work it out. As Quietus said, MetConst is the place to go. I don't really frequent there anymore as I've lost interest in hacking. Please keep in touch as I'm more than willing to help give tips, suggestions, and beta test. Cheers!
Thanks, guys. ^_^

I'll go have a poke around MetConst, see what I can find there.

I'm a little late to the party though, aren't I? Most of this hacking stuff happened around 2008, from what I've seen.

On here, yes.  Before it all moved over to MetConst. aiwebs_004
