Yeah, sort of. Well, I speak french and english is a little difficult for me. In french, we use "default" as "problem".

Got bored today and decided to spend a half hour on a TAS intro, not sure if I'm going to continue it or not, and yes, I know there are some improvements that can be made.

If this isn't a 100% TAS, I'd seriously question the value of getting that second missile pack. :)

You might be able to grab that first missile pack faster by jumping, walljumping, aiming up, and then shooting. Also, when grabbing morphball, can't you extend your hitbox by jumping and then pushing away from the ball when you're close to it? That seems to be the done thing in other TASes anyway.
What'd you say?
I'm doing Phantoon first, 3 missile packs for a 1-round if I am to continue.

You can get it faster like that but I didn't want to try like three times, this is my second TAS so it's not serious. And for the morphball, I wasn't sure how to execute it.

Okay, fair enough. I know TASing Super Metroid is a major pain; there's way too much to keep track of. :)

As for the missile packs, though, there's three easily acquirable en route to Phantoon: the first pack, the pack next to the E-tank near the WS entrance (probably should be grabbed after getting powerbombs, so you can open the door and reveal the powerups at the same time), and the pack in the WS kihunter room, behind a morphball tunnel.

Those 2 packs seem like too much of a detour. I reccommend obtaining the missile pack in the mushroom room with the green pirates and 1-rounding phatoon with 2 missile packs. It will be difficult I'm sure because of the tight space, but still easily enough done. If I had to choose a 3rd pack, I would most likely grab the pack in the hidden morph hole at the landing site on the way to torizo.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
You need one pack to get into Torizo's lair, so the ones in the ceiling are the easiest to get.  If you want a second, the ones in the left wall are still quicker than the ones in the room to the right.
Man, I can't believe I forgot about the pirate/mushroom pack! Of course that'd be faster than one of the other two I mentioned; the E-tank one if going for realtime, and maybe also if going for in-game time.
it is possible to zebitite glitch in stardust yes?

I've never really done one without a platform beneath it and in realtime i'm not that great at it in general.
Would definitely save a lot of time though.
It's possible to stand on the Rinka, it's very hard compared to the normal way. Most likely you'll get stuck in the wall about 8-10 pixels below where you want to be, and in sitting position. But with some precisive jumping and making sure you stand on the Rinka after getting hit, and of course getting through before the invincibility's up it's very well possible.

Don't be so noob. Just freeze the rinka that is used to glitch through, and stand around for another rinka to come and hit you, then continue on as usual. Very simple.  Wink

Yeah I agree, but it is nice to have some nice laid back hacks around for when you just want to enjoy a calm/peaceful playthrough.
I liked this hack, thanks for making it. :)

Glad you liked it.
This hack need a TAS.

Sorry Tonski, but this is all I got for now.  Confused

I made this after I first completed the game, it's in no way optimized, and terribly short. The item pickups are terrible since I didn't realise at that point that you can get 3 energy tanks "for free" before the "Hell's run", so if redone I would rather not pick up anything unnecessary, or maybe the missiles I unveil in the pirate room. But as I've never done a Phantoon 1 round kill before I decided to stop at that point. I guess I might as well redo up until that point and see if I can nail that Phantoon kill and make a finished run if there's interest though.

That was awesome sportlov, but it desynced after Bomb Torizo. That fight was fun to watch though.  aiwebs_008
That's strange, but I'm sure it's because I've either got a bad rom image or I guess something simply went wrong when I patched it.

It doesn't desync on me, but if I were to continue I would have to adress that.

In any case it was recorded in snes9x improvement 9, if that makes any difference, I guess my emulator's close to 5 years old by now.
how do you get the speed booster

I'm curious about something. Can somebody estimate what they think would be an accurate time for an any% TAS? IIRC, somebody got :24 in realtime with savestates a few pages back, but what would the optimal time be..?

:20?
Sub :20?
..:15?
.....Sub :15..?

.....:10....?

What are some theories.. O.o
What'd you say?
:13 is my guess.

Well, I was going to wait, but I'm tired and bored.. >.>

So, here is an Any% of Stardust, completed in :14:29 with 22% items. I will go ahead and release that :13 is possible with two major changes: Collecting the gravity suit before wave beam, and superior optimization. The tradeoff for this :13 is a rediculous increase in realtime from the insane amount of extra door transitions it takes to get the gravity suit before wave beam. I choose the faster realtime option for two specific reasons: According to my tests, I had already reached my :15 goal regardless, and some suitless underwater action ended up being much more entertaining compared to a shit-ton of boring backtracking.

About the route:
I have completely tested both possible route options for the beginning portion. The two options were:
-Upon reaching the brinstar elevator, you could go left and down for the Norfair cleanup, and have the SpeedBooster for the WS.
-Upon reaching the brinstar elevator, go right, snag the PBs, and proceed back to the WS.

The former ended up being ~3.2 seconds slower than the latter. And IMHO, the latter is also more entertaining despite the lack of a Hell's Run. The rest of the route for the game is pretty obvious and standard:
SS -> Ice Beam -> Draygon -> Plasma -> Botwoon -> Ridley -> MB

Let it be known that I did pump this run out in a matter of days with help from the legendary Hero of the Day. His input however, wasn't very much truth be told, but he had some fantastic ideas for the help he did contribute. It should also be known that this run is very sub-optimal. I figured it would be good for upcoming TASers in the aspect that they can compete with this time and compare strategies easily enough via the great Terrain that this hack features.

An AVI will most likely be up tomorrow, as well as a youtube upload. I am 98.67% sure on this so far.
