I had thought it was a good spot, oh well.  Rolling Eyes Glad you enjoyed it.

not trying to be a dick, but grab the missiles in the room beforehand and run straight into the x-ray scope room.  so long as you have a charge built up, you'll disintegrate at least a block, maybe more just by accident.  not hard to tell something is back there after that, you know?
What'd you say?
Yea, that room previously had a red door cap, but I thought if I had kept it there, people might suspect something was there. Oh well.

I have to go for the night, but I'll be back tomorrow, keep enjoying it everyone!

a red door would be a good idea.  there's a red door blocking off a save room in vanilla sm under the tube that connects red brinstar to the norfair elevator.

I just started playing this and I have to say, after playing Eris this hack seems really easy.
I like how the items are hidden, I found a lot of them by accident by just blindly shooting about.

What the heck, decided to redo the speed run. This time I got 00:29 with 42%:

Only two major route changes this time: first, I didn't grab the high-jump boots, which I definitely think is worthwhile; there were only a few points where I wished I had them. Notably, Ridley's a pain if you have to walljump up to be able to shoot at him, and I had to gravity jump out of Draygon's room. Second, I didn't fight Crocomire. Duh! Not necessary at all.

With so many fewer missiles (~60 instead of 95), I had to replenish them before taking on MB, but that didn't take too long. Better ammo management could have obviated that, since I only had 6 supers going into Tourian, out of 25. I'd figured I could pick up more on the Metroids, but they mostly dropped health since I lost a lot to Ridley.

Edit: awww,
the door to Bomb Torizo is metal during the escape. :(
35 minutes/56%, this is pretty great to run through quickly.
Phazon Vasteel Autobot
1:58, 92%

This game was like SM SFI (Search For Items) II, a maze for find items, too bad that i miss 8%, otherwise it'd be perfect.

Well, hell.  I was on track to be #2 to 100% (I'm at around 98% or so, I assume
the two e-tanks in Tourian after the point-of-no-return are the only must-wait items
), but no matter what I try, I can't figure this part out (spoiler images attached).

I know asking how to do them invalidates my run, but I'm curious at this point and I have RL work I should be getting to.  So, what am I missing?  Quietus?

You can't get to that area until the escape sequence.  There are a couple tanks to be picked up in the escape sequence, so if you at 98% then finish the game and you'll be t 100%.

Also, I don't see how asking would negate the validity of your run.  For all we know, everyone has been opening the game in SMILE and seeing where everything is hidden.

EDIT:  OK this time I got 96%.  How the hell do I get down to that area?

attachment:
Wondering that too.  I believe I have currently found 93%.  These last few items are going to be tough.  I did find Screw Attack without any hints whatsoever, so I was happy about that.
Yeah, I didn't think Screw Attack was that bad, either.

And knowing now that it's part of the escape sequence, I guess my run isn't invalidated. :)  I dunno, I was under the impression that any 100% run was assuming you'd done it all yourself, and that it worked on the honor system that you hadn't used SMILE and the like.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Televangelist:

Once you begin entering Tourian, and the escape sequence afterward, you can collect two Energy Tanks, One Power Bomb expansion, and two Missile expansions.  Therefore your totals before Tourian should be 12 ET's, 220 Missiles, 50 Supers, and 45 Power Bombs.

Opium:

You don't go down there.  Many of the rooms in the hack appear to have had other things planned that were never used.  That's one of them.

Yea, that area was planned for something else, but I had an elevator go corrupt on me so I gave up that area, I left those crumble blocks as a memory.  Rolling Eyes

EDIT: Should I record my speed runs and stuff (not 100%) in the highscores?
EDIT2:I adjusted the highscores, I'm going to add myself for speed and low percents.
Thanks Quietus, sounds like I'm on track for 100% after all. :)  We'll see when I actually get it finished.
Argh, low% is kicking my ass. I'm at the door to MB with these stats:

and getting to MB with enough health to survive the rainbow beam is hard! I made it once with 39 energy to spare, and then her first circles attack hit me because I was too nervous. :\

Assuming I manage to actually beat MB, I'd be finishing with 22%. I did savestate before Draygon (but beat him on the first attempt), before Ridley (that took several tries), and of course before MB, but I'm not savestating otherwise.
What'd you say?
Dang. I was trying to do a low % too. I got stuck at Draygon though. Good luck.

If you make a version 1.6 patch, you may want to consider editing that.  Hundreds of people are going to waste hundreds of hours trying to figure out how to get down there.  Only the handful of peeps who come in here are going to know that it's impossible.
Got it! 22% run of Stardust in 00:32:

I had two good runs get nailed by MB's hand beam, which is annoyingly hard to dodge without highjump. Otherwise, it was mainly a matter of keeping the Rinkas under control (very annoying without ice beam), not standing in the firing lines of the turrets, and getting better at navigating through the room to and from the refill station.

Now, this is technically "segmented" -- I used savestates before Draygon, Ridley, and MB, instead of using the save rooms, though. I don't know if that invalidates my effort, but the paths from saverooms to the bosses is filled with easy-refill monsters for Draygon and Ridley, and Tourian up to MB is trivial, so I don't personally think it's a big deal.

As for the run itself, you could prune off 3% by dropping an E-tank, a missile tank, and a super missile tank. And Plasma isn't required either. Everything else I got is a requirement, I think. So that'd put the absolute minimum item collection at 18%. Have fun killing Ridley with two E-tanks and charge/wave beam, though! Though I guess in the latest version, since you can back out of Tourian, you can get a different E-tank and face Ridley with three.
Burrrp!
just finished, 57 min, 56%, very nice second run through (first i got stuck in tourain before the missle fix but then decided to do it again) but my first run took quite a bit trying to find
the path to varia
i found the x-ray which i did not think was hard to find but did not find the screw attack.
i really enjoyed the pallet changes on pretty much everything especially the purple brinstar for some reason. the non-linearity is always good.
Overall really fun  grin new
What'd you say?
Great Job Derakon! Glad you enjoyed it Daltone, for SA:
It's in a sandy area in Maridia.
"I'm bored. I know! I'll run Stardust. Again!"

00:25 with 40% this time.

Main improvements this time:
* A better Phantoon fight. Still not amazing by any stretch, but I only hit him with one premature super instead of two like last time, and I got more missiles into him with each vulnerable cycle.
* Skipping the ice beam. Draygon and Ridley mostly go down to supers, and MB doesn't have much health to speak of, so it's not really needed.
* A much better Draygon fight. I got him in three gunk-spewing passes, which I think is pretty good.
* More supers left over after Ridley (and picking a few up en route to MB), which meant I didn't have to refill after clearing the Zebetites. The Ridley fight went quite well, too; I only lost a couple of tanks against him. Given that I didn't hit him with any normal missiles, I could've used that fight in my low% run.

Edit: man, that records list in the first post is looking a little silly. :) Other people deserve love too, y'know!
What'd you say?
I'm interested in seeing you do speedrun with 100% and are you going to try that 18% run you were talking about?
Uh, Tyjet... you may need to start a new list. :)  Check my screenshots.

Also, that last power-bomb pack -- the one at the power-bombable tube where the speed booster blocks don't show up even with X-ray?  Eeeeeeeeeevil.  Seriously, I was at the end of my rope until I figured, "What the hell, might as well try shinesparking it anyhow, it seems like it'd be a path...

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering how I did that...

Missiles go to 235.  220 in the broader world, 5 in Tourian before Mother Brain, 10 in Tourian afterward.
What'd you say?
I only recall 5 missiles after MB, care to explain where you found the other one?
