Well, in this test the boost gets me like 4 pixels ahead by the time I reach full speed (recorded in SM Eris, but opens in the original as well).
Meh. Unfair comparison, with 2.0 speed crouch, the difference is only 4 subpixels in favor of the spike. Let us compare with something out from the TAS.
The PB-door room after collecting the first powerbombs comes to mind. Obviously the crouch is 2 frames faster.
I will go ahead and intervene here before Kriole decides to post. [Edit: Kriole you sly cunt >.>] Here's the correct solution: Spiking at lower speeds is faster than crouching at lower speeds, and vice versa.
In other words, both of you are right, but Spoofer is the winner.
Oh, and just for the lulz, if we want to worry about 1-frame applications, let us take a look at your Eris TAS Kriole, but in all fairness, maybe we should take a look at Saturn's Redesign TAS? How many frames did you find in his Crateria run again, iirc it was a shit ton, no? The concept here being that, as Kriole *clearly* stated in his post for his Eris TAS: 1-frame applications and optimizations were not worried about considering the TAS was created solely for the purpose of fan-based entertainment, which I also clearly stated in my own post.
Quote from Kriole:
Also, for those who don't really get it; this isn't supposed to show fancy optimization, I even neglected very many input frames because I'm lazy bum.
Quote from namespoofer:
It should also be known that this run is very sub-optimal. I figured it would be good for upcoming TASers in the aspect that they can compete with this time and compare strategies easily enough via the great Terrain that this hack features.
My core here being that this argument is now void and Spoofer, once again, wins. Yay, go me! YUR MUM SMELLZ LIKE EDLERBERRIES KRIOLINE LOLOL

Lol my strategy was 4 frames faster than yours, nub!

It's 1 frame faster for every application on flat ground
In the given context do I think that the comparison was unfair? No, I do not.
On a more serious note... hmm, guess I had nothing to say really.
'Unfair comparison, with 2.0 speed crouch...'
You cannot compare 2 different strategies when one of them isn't exercised to it's fullest potential. And what's the point of that reply. Seriously, am I wrong or something? Try to read the whole sentence.
My point was that you didn't mention anything about 2.0 speed before I posted those tests, and without a certain speed it isn't faster, which means it is not faster for every application on flat ground, only applications where your speed is greater than *some number I don't know*. And there wasn't much of a point to the reply, only nitpicking for nitpicking's sake.
Very nice. Somehow it never occurred to me to take the powerbombs to the right of the elevator instead of to the left, and I'd never even seen those three E-tanks at the Norfair entrance (only ever one, for me, since I'd grabbed earlier sets).
My early guess as to time, incidentally, was 00:18. So I was off just a smidge. :)
EDIT: Oh! Is the shinespark system changed in Stardust? You seemed to be able to hold a charge for an unusually long time in the Draygon fight, and then afterwords go from having a charge to having the bluesuit. What's up with that?
The hack is pretty open in routing, so you have anumber of options.
I presume you have Power Bombs too, since you've been to the Wrecked Ship, and I seem to remember you need them to get in. You can check the Wrecked Ship again for the Wave Beam, which'll open a route in Brinstar.
Or you can now face the heated rooms in Norfair, since you have a suit.

It is not. That works in the original version as well. I'm 86.45% sure of that statement. >.< And the reason why I seemed to have held it longer is because I crouched repeatedly, causing the timer to reset.
Only upgrades I was missing are Grapple, Spazer and Springball. Seems like I missed A LOT of missiles :D This was a very funny hack. I liked most of the item locations as it kind of follows the original idea of little hints like cracks in walls and such. This is just much more fun than having to scan every room with x ray. I also found the graphics to be done quite nice, kind of natural and not as disturbing and over-colored than in many other hacks. I also have to say, only 2 minutes for escape really freaked me out when I first saw it. I ended up with 11 seconds without collecting any item. But I must say X Ray and Screw Attack are not that well hidden. Both spots are very suspicious. Still, I was happy having found ScrewAttack, you don't have to hide it like the holy grail.
Then again, Golden Torizo pi**ed the sh** out of me! What about having spikes AND acid instead of a convenient floor? Damn you really need lots of E tanks to fight him. I had to travel back to get Hyper before I even had a chance. Funny thing is, most people didn't even find him while I found him the first time I entered that room. Kind of accidently but still it somewhat makes a lot of sense were he is.
Also I found one graphical error: During escape sequence, on the first screen after you left Tourian.

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. GT was IMO the hardest part of this hack, I tried making it a living hell.
There is an e-tank in the left wall in his room.
I still believe that SA was hidden well, guess not though. Are you going to try and make it on the highscores?
