Hm, I'll have to try this out!

Edit: Ok, so far its not working. Did you skip the artifact and the key thing, or did you get both, or did you get just one? And did you not lose any health up until the voldrum part? Also, are you supposed to die in biped or alt? I tried both but neither worked.
I got only the Artifact, not the key, but then I went through the tunnel backwards and got the e-tank anyway. I made it to the Voldrum with full energy and died in morph ball form.
It still doesn't work for me, so it's probably just one of those random glitches like when all the hunters and guardians disappeared on all my files. And is the glitch still there cuz that one went away when I turned off my DS.
Yeah, you're probably right. It doesn't work at all now; the Octolith won't even show up. Let's just forget it unless someone figures it out again.
Anywhere, everywhere
Whoah, I just got that same octo come out but no "hunter stole it" message. It was against cretaphid 2 in VDO. It showed the octolith come apart, but it never showed that I actually lost it. I checked the map. I guess that it is just a glitch.
Really small speed trick.  Time saved is probably not worth the effort to get this trick down 100%.

it is on Alinos Perch(I still don't remember names of arenas, just the layout).  Basically, you just shoot the Judicator through the Magmaul seal to get it to richocet and finally hit the activator.  It's pretty much all luck on whether or not it will hit the thing.  You have to hug the seal in order to get the Judicator to go through it.

Probably not worth it.  Actually its definately not worth it.
I'm double posting because this is a separate speed trick.  If I just edited, I'm pretty sure no one will even bother looking so yeah...

There is a way to get portals to work during escapes...  If you don't scan the portals that are usually used for the first part of that world (like the portal in Alinos where you had to fight these monsters in an enclosed space and then fight Spire), you can actually use those during the second part escape sequence.

This is probably not helpful in Celestial archives but it might be in Arcterra and Alinos.  It really helps out a lot in VDO, however, its pretty hard to pull off since if youre going for a speed run, you cannot die at all during VDO part2.  You have to get the battle hammer, get the 2 keys in stasis bunker (the hardest part) race the timer to deactivate something, collect the last key and finally, beat the boss with less than 100 health and barely any UA ammo left.  At least, this is what you'd be facing if you're me.

Another speed trick.  You can actually scan the object (the one that deactivates the barrier) thats in the Compression Chamber from the bottom floor.  You have to position yourself at the correct spot for it to work.  I cant really explain where it is but experiment with it, it didn't take me long to find the right spot.

I think it was concluded that portals worked if they were activated during the escape cutscene.  This was concluded by my discovery of being able to enter arcterra 2 through arcterra 1's escape after killing trace if you got the magmaul early.

its the boss portals that dont work during escapes.  Arcterra 2's might possibly, but the artifacts are so spaced out that its impossible to get all 3 AND make it to the boss portal in time.

we should start a speed trick discussion on this for when a DS player comes out o_O
Eh, its been 8 months, I can hardly remember a thing we've discussed here.  I think I tried to double boss battle in Arcterra once and it didnt work.  I used the Secret worlds in Sic Transit to skip the barrier to the magmaul door while I was doing part1 (i had 2 artifacts during the time) and decided to get the imperialist and the 2 artifacts (last one is the one that is trapped in the electrical chamber in subterrean.  I beat the first boss, beat trace, went to part2 to collect the artifact and the boss portal did not work.

Well the compression chamber scan is still new i guess...

Well, I saw some earlier discussion in here about trying to do Arcterra 2 and Arcterra 3 in one segment. Paraxade (Mr Potter) told me that nobody has been able to get all three artifacts from Arcterra's second half within the time limit given from the escape of the first half's boss. Well, I was just able to get to the boss portal with all three artifacts before the time went out, and probably with enough time to make it to Slench and get the cutscene to start.

Only one problem; the boss portal doesn't activate even though you get the message saying it's been activated after getting the third artifact. So much for that theory. :(

Well I wasn't able to get all 3 artifacts during the escape sequence but I did cheat and collected 2 of them before collecting the last one during the escape.  And yes, its been stated that the boss portal will not work during escapes.

Oh, Paraxade told me that it was still unknown so I decided to try it. Ah well.
I tried before and all I needed was like 30 more seconds and I could of gotten all 3.

In VDO,, you can scan the switch in Compression Chamber while under the force field.  This was discovered by Droonandi.  I just read it in his "Glitch Guide".

In Data Shrine 2, right as you enter there's a spot in the wall in front of you that you can only fit into in morph ball mode. If you unmorph into it in the right spot you can go through it and jump to the middle part of the room and get Volt Driver early plus the UA expansion in the middle. :P

Still working on a way out though. :( This opens up a lot of possibilities if it turns out to be possible to get out.

If you were able to execute it, could you please tell me how or make a video? I seriously can NOT get it to work... :(

I'm just curious if you ever found a way out of there... I can almost taste the sequence breaking :p
Super Metroid Addict
I can't imagine how people waste their times on a sucky game like this.. 8-)
I have it,I've beaten it with 100%,and it's now in it's box, where it will be for a looooong time grin new
I think the demo was way better...
This game is way worst than Fusion and Ros
At least you put fusion above it.

Its really not a bad game... the sda speed run description pretty much sums up the problems though:

- total of two unique bosses besides the final
- only things to search for are expansions and they aren't exactly carefully hidden, thus taking some of the exploration that is key to metroid out.

I think I've finally mastered it.  After entering CC, look toward the switch that unlocks the essential force fields.  Get on the left side of the central platform (not on it, as you can't get on it yet) and look at the lines running down as texture near the edge farthest from the switch, but still on the left side.  Line up with this texture and activate Scan Visor.  Look up slightly, move slightly to the left, jump into the air, and tap L at the peak of the jump.  Continue jumping and scanning until complete.  It may take 5-10 jumps to fully scan.  After it is scanned, hit ok when the message pops up and the force field disappears.  This trick takes practice to work.  However, it saves A LOT of time.  Once you get it the first time, it's easy from then on, unless you forget the spot.  If it is possible for me to upload a video of it, I will gladly do so to share this lesser-known trick with the rest of M2K2.

Get a video capture program, such as Fraps, and an NDS emulator
(The only effectively working one i know of is no$gba: http://nocash.emubase.de/no$gba-w.zip scan it if you want)
and do the trick on the emulator using fraps to record it.

(sorry in advance)

I'm pretty inept at sequence breaking/speedrunning. But if anyone can point me to some of the easier tricks in this game, I will happly do it on an emulator which will achieve the kind of video quality needed for the site.
you might make sure nothing you're about to record isn't already in the run on sda. save you time.
