I got through the next segment and saved in Main Quarry at 1:07. The freez dash out of Life Grove took me forever to get on my first try. I'm almost at the lower mines without grapple segment...
Thanks a lot baby. Like I said I can't try it out right now, but in a week or so I'll test my luck.
Definitely have this page BM'd.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
hm i see. it would help on gc though if i ever try to do ibbf and do a quick reentry.
If you enter then just do a ghetto off a toad...
Jagger ftw
Say baby. Did you get that save yet?
Which save? I've gotten two lol.
Jagger ftw
From dragon. SJF
Not yet :/
My run is almost finished. I just saved in Impact Crater at 1:33 and i'm hoping to finish with 1:39 or less.
Jagger ftw
baby! WTF MAN! Your are the Einstein of metroid! But WHY DID YOU GET YOURSELF STUCK IN THAT ELEVATOR? -_-
I'm not sure what you mean.
I finished the run. Final time is 1:39 and AFAIK this is the world record for the Trilogy version. It's very good considering it's only 2min behind Stefan's run which was done on the more breakable japanese version.

There were a few tricks I left out of the run though. SJF was left out because it would take me years to pull off and also IS to get the early power bomb in Magma Pool and to get early Sun were also left out.

This might remain the world record for a while because I think i'm the only one who is able to pull off SJE really quickly.

always be careful saying that kind of stuff cause it only takes one lucky attempt for someone to do it faster than you.

By the way i just got the trilogy and score one for Idaho on getting space jump early. Bomb jump isn't too hard, finding the correct timing for the unmorph to get good height is the hardest part. First play through the game got a 1:51 finish time. Currently trying to perform the sjf trick and get it on video for another one to compare with although have only gotten close on rare occasions.
Sun with infinite speed? How'd you get it to work? For me the door would turn purple the moment I escaped from the blocks after obtaining IS.

edit: nice time btw. I sure a 1:39 is better than my 1:37 for the japanese version.

Looks like i've got some competition. I'm guessing you used the back of the ship method. I haven't gotten it using that method, I used the other method using a DSBJ. 1:51 is a very good time for a first play through. I don't think my record will last long...

I know what you mean. That usually happens to me and that's exacly why I decided to not use the trick. I've been able to escape the crates and the door not to turn purple twice but it took me countless attempts.

OK... im suprised at how long this thread is... lol. So it looks like there's still at least a few ways to do this- which way would be the *easiest* for sequence-break challenged people like me?  laugh new
Getting SJ normally. All of the methods are quite difficult. I suggest trying SJF though. Much bigger payoff.
Hey T3, I'm trying SJE off the rock.  I'm getting pretty good at it, but have been aimed at the middle-right "V" part of the ledge.  I have gotten way up on that part of the ledge several times only to slide off.  Guess I should've read this thread more carefully and I would have seen to aim to the left part of the ledge. lol So my question is, since I haven't seen a video, do you HAVE to place the 3rd bomb forward a little, or a lot, to make it...like the back-of-the-ship method?
No, it's a pretty straight up DBJ. I'd try for SJF, though. It's infinitely more rewarding.

Yes, join us. We're trying to figure out the precise method to SJF. The more people we get working on it the quicker it'll go.
Yea, def way more rewarding.  I spent about an hour trying SJF, but wanted to pull off SJE first just so I could tell the game to screw itself.  lol I'm finding out now that even if I did manage SJE though, I'd have to do it relatively fast, maybe 30 min of trying, as I'm saved with SJ at 28 min/15%.  So I'm done with SJE, especially since I don't want to break a controller.

The video of SJF shows him untargetting and turning through the air.  Is the turning necessary to gain distance or dash-curving (if that doesn't make sense, think original Prime Frigate Crash dash), or has anyone done it maintaining the lock all the way to the ledge?

Well, it actually does help to move forward for the last bomb. Instead of placing the last bomb forward, as the second bomb explodes hold up and you should hit the front part of the third bomb. That's gotta be one of the most important things. Either place the third bomb forward or do it my way and just hold up as the second bomb explodes. The bomb jump is very hard and afaik i'm the only one who has done it this way, so don't get frustrated if you can't get it.

I got extremely lucky during my run and pulled it off in about 5 tries. Usually though, it takes me about 20-30min

I don't think turning actually helps but i'm almost certain that releasing the lock-on does give more distance.
I could barely pull off SJF in the original NTSC version... I have a feeling I'm not gonna be able to do it in this one (usually I can't even get back to the ship with my combat lock intact).

I have about 40% success rate of getting to the ship with my lock intact.

You definitely want to release the lock before the dash jump has had much time to lose speed.

I do not think that the "Dash Turn" allowed the one in the video to get there really.
Unless I'm doing the Dash Jump super wrong, then if you hold Right and turn your aim, you'll end up behind where you're supposed to be, and thus never make it up the cliff.

I've been trying it while facing forward, and I land right next to the cliff every time. So I think it's just me not having found the correct timing yet.

Remember to let the door close when the seedling is closest to the ship. The closer the seedling is, the longer your lock-on will last. If the door shuts as the seedling is as close as possible, you will even be able to fall off the back of the ship and you will not lose the lock-on.
