O just kill the chozo ghost lol, you have the beam already at that point. and you can skip the chozo's trigger point (I think).
You need to kill them to blow up the thing to let you advance.
And I know you meant something else, I was being a tbob.
Fighting the chozo ghosts costs an extra minute or so. I want to use as many tricks as possible in my run so that it will be hard to beat. Atleast until someone comes along and crushes it with a run using secret worlds.
You might as well nab xray, then get into the SW, nab chozo, then jump to the bottom of GTH and save time.
Well, i've already said that i'm not using secret worlds in my run. Also, you completely forgot about World.
Hello everyone.  I've been lurking on metroid2002.com for a few years now, but this is my first actual post.  I don't really do much with speed runs, but I love sequence breaking just for the sake of playing around with game mechanics.  I'm trying to get to the point where I can get 100% with only visiting each area no more than two separate trips, but before getting all the "required" items.

I can get SJF the first time, every time on Gamecube with either the scan-dash or the combat dash (off of the seedlings).  In fact, I've only done MP without SJF the first time I ever played it.  On the Wii, however, the mechanics of the dash are very different, and I can't get it in Trilogy if my life depended on it.  Between the dash not taking me far enough and the lock accidentally breaking from moving too far, I've been trying for over 30 hours to do it.  Would it be possible for someone to post an SJF savegame so I can start sequence breaking from there?  This is really starting to frustrate me.  I'm trying to get plasma before Thardus (just for giggles).  I was a master at the old scan-dash and L-lock spring jump, but now I'm having to start all over to find new methods of getting around.

Also, I'm having trouble with gravity-less Lifegiver, when I've done it countless times on Gamecube.  I tried the ghetto jump for about 3 hours.  I pop out of the water, but for some reason, I can't catch the ledge.  Normal ghetto jumps still work the same, like climbing Frigate and Tallon Overworld, but I can't get any of the underwater ones anymore.  Any hints or suggestions would be welcome.

underwater ghettos were messed with to prevent that skip but there's a trick to get around that. lock onto an enemy (the oculus in the room works) and then go to the area where you use the ghetto jump and do like normal but keeping the lock at all times and you'll get more height to reach the ledge this way.

i had a dream last night. in it, i did sjf with a combat dash off a scan point and towards the ledge that people reach with the bomb jump. the sight of that was quite weird even for a dream.

Why didn't his final two video has volume?
Because of his loudness, apparently lol.
looking at the mechanics that go into making space jump first for the triligy got me thinking, if we could get that little boost up from the ship on the original version then we could likely dash nearly directly to the space jump door since there is a slant for a ghetto if you could get just a little extra height. sub 10 second space jump first for the orignal ntsc may be a really far reach but maybe worth a try.
Has SJF been confirmed, how many people have made it? Is there any normal quality video with sound? Good job on stil finding tricks guys. I hope there will be an awesome speedrun some day.
It has been confirmed, two people have done it atm. The best video is actually a very good video (a bit bright, but better than seeing nothing) and it's slow motion. And really high res.

Hello, I've been lurking around here for a long time, trying to learn about SBing metroid prime games. I recently bought the trilogy and have been playing through all the games via the "intended" route. I experienced some problems with my Wii and am currently waiting for my repair to be sent back. So, once I get it back and finish Echoes, and then play through Corruption, I'd like to start SBing Metroid Prime.

I'm just wondering what a good place to start is. It looks like it's pretty important to try and get SJF or SJE, and also it looks like a good idea to try IBBF even though that seems to be pretty difficult. Other than that I was just going to try and take the most recent any% route I can find and follow it accurately. But if you have any tips, or ideas about specific techniques I should practice beforehand the wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also a huge fan of Echoes, so I'll definitely be into that hard as well, but I'm looking to take on MP1 first.
IBBF is one of the easiest hard tricks in the game. I definitely recommend trying it after SJF.
Is there somewhere I can find a detailed explanation of how it's done?
Or at least how to get into the SW in the first place?

I could follow the video from there..

Thanks for the help.

i think getting into the sW is the easiest part.
also, i bet baby will post a detailed description of the whole trick soon.
I would definitely be one of the best people around here to ask. First off, you're going to want to start very slow. As soon as you get outside the map, face it again and strafe to the left towards EA. Fall towards any of the platforms extending from Gathering Hall into the sw, then jump up to the metal platform by the door. Jump towards the wall level with the door and a tiny platform will be standable from the outside. Jump carefully onto the door. Jump to the left, towards EA and load it. When it's loaded stand on the doorframe of EA and jump once away from the level, then hold left and jump again to get on the top of EA. This isn't as easy as it may sound. When you're on the roof, any metal wires or corners of rooms (Corners of rooms are ALWAYS standable, the key to SWing) are standable so take a jump towards anything that looks solid. Then jump towards the door leading towards Energy Core Access. Simply jump towards where the next room should be (I.E. away from the room you're in) and the next room will load and put you in it. Jump to the top of the room and get in a skywalk, then walk VERY quickly over the doorframe leading to Energy Core. This is probably the only time you WANT a slow gamecube, so you have enough time to troop over there before the room loads, eliminating a somewhat lengthy corner walk. When you're on the doorframe, jump towards Furnace. It will load and put you 'in' it. Then climb the room carefully, heeding the whole ideal about corners, then jump towards the right where there's a corner of a wall that will take you to the next (probably locked) door you need to go to. Jump carefully down to the doorframe. Jump up then use your second jump after you come fairly level (but not too low) to the door. The next room will load. Jump towards it and the game will put you 'in' it again. Hop towards the next door. Morph and make sure you unmorph before you fall WAY below this room's level. You should be right below the door. Move up to the side of it and shoot it. When you can, jump and try as hard as you can to make it ontop of the doorframe. If you didnt, just jump at the side of the tunnel, morph and lay a bomb. Either way, when you're on the doorframe (if you missed, you'll have to go to either edge of the doorframe to be able to drop on it, there's an invisible wall covering most of it. Jump towards where Furnace should be. It will load and put you in it. Now jump twice and push yourself slightly against the wall like you're trying to brush it, not like you're trying to friggin Kool-Aid man through it. You should land on a platform. Jump again and reach the top of furnace. Now jump twice and in the middle of the jump, walk towards Furnace Access. You should stick in the air. Now strafe around furnace being VERY mindful if you go too close you can fall. Get to the ice door. It's probably faster to go to the right, starting from facing the Ice door. When you're there, facing the room you used to be in, adjust yourself so the right side of the wall by the ice door is showing. Walk into the corner and either fall or land on a small platform. Either way, jump towards the room that has just loaded. When you can, jump ontop of the invisible room and lay a bomb to get into a skywalk, then walk over the doorframe. Jump towards your invisible room. It should become visible after a couple annoying tries. Jump up into a skywalk and look at the room. At the last turn (away from Furnace) slightly before it you need to morph and land. As soon as you land, lay a bomb and unmorph into a skywalk. VERY QUICKLY walk behind the door leading to HOTE. The room should load around you, rub against the doorframe and you'll be back inside the level properly.

There's a video of the fastest IBBF recorded atm, it doesn't quite follow the route provided above but it's really more for entertainment than anything else.

speaking of ibbf, is it possible to reenter the playable area with a cutscene warp after killing the chozo ghost? i've noticed that the game moves you in front of the statue when you kill it.
It'd be completely useless. You could doorwarp in anyways. Also, you can't ghetto off the stone toads anymore.
You can ghetto off the statue thing though and i've come ridiculously close to making it up.
You can't ghetto off the statue. I did my best sasuke hop and it didn't work.
But the sasuke hop gives exacly the same height as a ghetto in the GC version. You have to sasuke hop backwards though because all of the scan points are behind you, which makes it harder.
Jagger ftw
You can jump up the statue in the GC version, I've done it.
I know but in the GC version you have to do it perfectly. I doubt it'd be faster to warp into Reflecting Pool, dick around with the statue for half an hour then get icebeam, rather than just jumping up and warping into the icebeam.
