yeah there seems to be a misconception that metroid is one of nintendo's main franchises after mario and zelda but that's never been the case. there will always be the hardcore fans but no one else really cares about metroid. maybe this is an attempt to make the series more popular.
That's kinda what I said earlier

this this this this

i have no idea why metroid's always been considered "the big 3" when kirby, pokemon, dk, animal crossing, golden sun, and even some fire emblem games completely outsell metroid. Metroid is unpopular, as unfortunate as it is. People are generally really vocal about it but honestly, the audience for metroid isn't close to as big as al lthe series i listed above. The only nintendo series i can think of off the top of my head that's likely "less popular" is f-zero and starfox
So if they don't want to make the 'troid game that we want because it's not worth it, then will they please let someone else do it?
red chamber dream
i mean, it still wouldn't be worth it for nintendo ...

the problem is that metroid games don't sell even when nintendo makes them (prime 1, 2, and 3)
The solution is just make GBA-level graphics 2D Metroids which are cheap enough to be profitable anyway. And make an F-Zero Climax sequel while you're at it.
Prime 1 and Fusion were the only games to sell over a million, IIRC... Maybe Prime 2 as well?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Well Prime and Fusion were the best ones so it's nice to know those sold alright.
Prime, Fusion, and Super are like the holy trinity of Metroid.
Speaking of which, though... How well did Super do?

All three of the Primes sold over a million. I think Echoes squeaked by, Corruption went well over and Prime sold multiple millions. And I think Metroid 1 has sold multiple millions

one thing to keep in mind is that selling a million is no longer considered an accomplishment for any game really

games are so expensive they need to sell WAY more than a million to be considered successful

"player's choice" on gamecube was a million because not many people had gamecubes ;)

This site (which admittedly is not the most reliable) shows all but the DS games and ZM crossing a million.

I do know that all three Primes crossed a million, though
Anywhere, everywhere
And I definitely disagree with the notion that a million or two is bad. For a large company, sure, but Retro was puny in the Prime days. It sold phenomenally for the company that designed it. Hence...why there are sequels.
red chamber dream
yeah, but retro = nintendo, and nintendo stopped investing in prime after the trilogy was done, because it wasn't worth it

if they were big sellers, they would keep making them
red chamber dream
i.e. you can disagree but you're wrong :P
Yeah, but then how do you explain shit like Fire Emblem?
red chamber dream
fire emblem sells well in japan
red chamber dream
metroid does not
Which has constantly undershot a million sales even in Japan.
red chamber dream
but in japan a few hundred thousand is considered a huge success because their population is much smaller
red chamber dream
i mean, HUGE

If you want to talk about a Retro game that sold poorly, Tropical Freeze says hi
