Hey ark, you need some help cleaning up your yard? Cause it looks like your theories just got tossed out the window. :P

i still think he's an energybender somehow. taking away a bender's powers with bloodbending doesn't make much sense.
red chamber dream
hah, brilliant - now korra's got to learn the other bending skills

lol ... looks like my theories weren't so wrong after all :P

i'm also confident whatever drama there may be between the three isn't really going to be a big deal. the writers are smarter than that, and there's only two eps left.

yep

Quote from arkarian:
my guess is korra learns to energybend either by visions of aang or talking to him in the spirit world. seems like there's no way they'd take a great character like lin out of the picture for good like that.

yep
She's learned it already? I must have missed something in episode 11. Hmph.
red chamber dream
did you not watch 12? it was an hour-long finale, bro. don't read anything below this i guess!

overall i'm pleased with how the season ended - was wondering for a while how they'd parlay this one into the next, what with amon being the only real villain in the series so far. i assume he's dead now (or at least i hope so, kind of tired of him), so we don't really know what season 2 will be about, but at least it's obvious that korra's going to want to master the other bending skills over the course of the show a la aang.

hopefully this means getting out of republic city and seeing more of the world - what with bumi and iroh in on the action now, i'm sure that'll be the case. looking forward to s2!

I kind of missed out on the second half a lot due to IRL interruptions. Gonna have to rewatch it.

<--- Oh lol, Zalera.

Gaaaah.

Having her have to re-learn all the other elements would've been a great arc for season two, but then the last minute or so kind of robbed us of that.  No idea where they're goin' with this now.

I don't know. That kind of story would have been WAY too much of a rehash.
red chamber dream
um, i got the impression that she will have to relearn the other three elements. when she did that crazy shit during the last minutes, she was in the avatar state - that's how she learned to energybend. i definitely don't think she can bend anything but air (or at least, she's not good with the other elements anymore) when she's just normal korra.

plus there's the fact that this season was called book one - air. makes a hell of a lot of sense to assume that the next season is going to be water, earth, or fire. that's called cohesiveness, and i don't think it'd feel like a rehash if they do it right: now korra might travel the world with her friends, and we'll get to see how all the locations from tla have changed in 80 years. maybe it's just me, but that's really the only thing that makes sense atm.

btw don't use spoiler tags in this thread.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Keep in mind that this was done mostly without knowing if there was going to be a season 2. If they had gotten two seasons from the start I imagine this whole story would have been stretched out over the two of them. My only real complaint with the show is that at times it moved a bit too fast, they didn't really have time to really pace things out or give Mako a personality.

Also Avatars are such bullshit cheaters and it owns. Sup new self, here's your bending back cause I'm fucking Aang and I can fucking do that, lates!

yeah, it did feel kind of rushed mostly the whole time. i can't complain though, they did a pretty damn good job for the number of eps they had.

just wish there weren't so much of that fucking cg ... looks so horrible
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah they made a really entertaining show with around half the episodes shows normally get. I just wish if they were going to get these shorter seasons they had been given at least the two seasons upfront, it could have been something completely amazing if they had been able to stretch it out.

I hate to say it but I do hope they get a little less ambitions for season 2, whenever it's done, they just don;t have the space to work with that they had with TLA. It was still a lot of fun though so, I guess it doesn't matter much.
red chamber dream
yeah, it's kind of amazing how much they did manage to cram in without totally fucking everything up. but there's so much stuff it would have been nice to spend more time with (pro-bending, mako+korra, etc). oh well ... has there been any news on the length of the second season?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It's about the same, 12-13 episodes or something iirc. Nick just can't give the money to go a full season, animation's expensive and this show puts a lot of detail in to it. A full run would be absurd.
red chamber dream
like three full seasons of tla were absurd? :P

btw did anyone else get the impression korra was contemplating suicide up on the cliff at the end? the tear falling over the cliff implies she was actually leaning over the edge. heavy shit man.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that's what they were going for, but it didn't occur to me until a bit later.

Quote from arkarian:

Cost wise that's probably comparable to 1 and 1/2 seasons full seasons of Korra. And I think Nick's not really doing super great money wise themselves anymore so that doesn't help.

maybe, but taking away support for your highest-rated show (and often the highest-rated show on cable, period) is just incredibly dumb business. get some merchandise out there to make the real money and keep it churning, baby.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I don't think they're taking support away from it at all, they just literally can't afford to do a full run. Even then they might be the only network that'd even give it a chance. Merchandise sales can help but not that much.

They are selling toys or whatever though, right? If not then, yeah, they're dumb as shit.
red chamber dream
that's bullshit, there's no such thing as a big company like nickelodeon not being able to afford something. funding more korra might put them in the red for a while, but companies do that all the time and end up successful. just have to be smart about it.

also, merchandise is most of why pokemon is so monetarily huge. same with any disney show or other nick show.
I like turtles.
Speedboat Tarrlok with real suicidal exploding action!
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I don't know, last I heard Nick was actually tanking pretty hard, they need to focusing more on products that tend to be more profitable than that one really popular show that costs all of the money.

I mean obviously Korra's doing them some good or they wouldn't have given the greenlight on season 2 but unless it's setting the world on fire, and it's not, there's no reason for them to outright double the cost. They're not going to be droppign themselves into the red unless they have to, it's not how they do things.
red chamber dream
it IS setting the world on fire though. it's landed at number 1 of all cable shows several times!
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I recently ploughed through Avatar after you guys waffled on about it, and really enjoyed it.  Enough that I'd say it was one of my favourites.  My short question is: Is this in the same league, or different enough to watch anyway?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It's very good. It's short so the pacing feels a bit off a times and the characters aren't as defined as Avatar's cast, but it's still a lot of fun and worth a watch.
One shall stand, one shall ball.

Baaaah I can't seem to find numbers to see what its range is ratings wise, only able to find a top 25 from last week and the week before where it came in 21 and somewhere below 25. I know the premiere did great but haven't heard much after that wish I could see if it was consistent at all. NBA Finals didn't help. :v

Cable ratings are just weird to me though!

But hey, looks like season 2 is 14 episodes, progress!
