yes, it's that time folks, the time to talk about the legend of korra. if you don't know, it's the sequel to avatar: the last airbender. so you can talk about that too i guess, if you want.

oh yeah, it airs saturdays at 11 am est on nickelodeon. or just watch all the episodes online.

so has anyone watched the most recent episode?

- loving the love theme. korra + mako ftfw. bolin can go chug some cock.

- mako is kind of like zuko lite, while korra is like an angrier katara. some of my favorite parts in avatar were katara and zuko bickering, so it's fun seeing something similar.

- totally wouldn't be surprised if mako is somehow related to zuko.

- every time jinora speaks i can't help but hear sally draper.

- it's fun seeing pro-bending, but i wonder if it's only going to be in a few more episodes. i mean, the tournament's almost over right?

Bolin owns you shit!

You may be the only non teenage girl that likes Mako from some of the stuff I've seen around the internet. To me he's like Zuko but without the interesting story (It's still early) and nowhere near as funny. But I get the impression that's he's not really meant to be Zuko so whatevs, he's still got plenty of time to prove to be not boring.

As far as the pro bending goes, yeah seems like it's not going to be a huge part of the rest of the season. The next episode's supposed to have the last round of the tournament, I think, and some of the promo stuff suggested that shit goes down during or soon after that final round. Like in the stadium.

ah, cool, well i'm okay with that i guess. i like pro-bending but i wouldn't really want to see it become the focus of the show or anything lol

i'm totally a mako + shipper though yeah. maybe it is a teenage girl thing, but i always like seeing the best looking characters hook up. makes my heart go boom boom.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah it's fun. But I think they realize that pro bending isn't really something that's going to be able to drive the series, it's not a sports show.

Well then you should be a Korra/Lin shipper DUH. <stern> Let me tell about how I hate shippers.
I need to catch up on a few episodes. This show is pretty cool.

Anime is for faaaags!

Nah just going to finish watching Avatar before I start on Kora. Sounds pretty cool so far.

i forget, idkbutlike2, have you watched avatar?

@poision how far into it are you?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Marginally related, I've been going through Rob Paulsen's podcasts voice actor podcasts, a couple VA's from Avatar guested and touch on some Avatar stuff a bit. Not a whole lot but voice actors are hilarious so their worth a listen if you have time for podcasts. Grey DeLisle (Azula) is amazing and Dee Baker (Appa) is on one I haven't gotten to yet.

For PEnvy: Tara Strong is on one too.

It's okay, this show's good so it's not anime!

hey, you don't have to like ponies to love tara strong!

definitely checkin out those podcasts. i love listening to in-the-know stuff like that.

Don't expect a lot of information the one with Kevin Michael Richardson is like the least informative thing in the world but it's fucking riot. Like they just start fucking around doing a bunch of voices because why not.
red chamber dream
lol that's what i'd rather them do anyway

I've seen random episodes from the whole series, since it seems to be on TV almost 24/7. I just need to torrent the last... season? book? last 10 episodes and just watch those.
I like turtles.
I'm liking this show a lot so far.  Maybe not quite as much as the original yet, but give it time.

The soundtrack is so out of place but I think it works spectacularly.

<3 Bolin

Oh, and I'm wondering when the other three Sinistrals will show up and also antagonize Korra and co.

Not out of place at all.

And serious shout outs to Bolin's VA he fucking kills it, totally makes the character.

what's out of place about the soundtrack? it's roaring twenties mixed with chinese woodwinds. i dig.
I like turtles.
Just... big band music in a show about monks manipulating the four natural elements seems pretty out of place to me, I guess.

Well not much of it takes place on Air Temple Island which is where the minks are, everyone else is hanging out in a 20s/30s style city where that kind of music makes perfect sense.
As I said back in I think the social topic, I am really enjoying the show so far and it's quite different from Airbender, but different in a good way because it's still highly interesting. After some consideration I think Tenzin might be my favorite so far, and others like Korra are pretty good as well. Only problem is that compared to where Airbender was already by this point in the series most of the characters, even the ones I like most, don't stand out as much as Aang, Katara, Iroh, etc. did for me. I'm hoping that will change as time goes on.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Since they've only got a 13 episode season it seems like their favoring keeping the plot moving over spending a bit more time setting the characters up. And we know a lot less about the antagonists now than we did around this point in Avatar since we don't have portions of the episodes dedicated to "What's Amon up to?" so we don't have that to kind of contrast the main group and define them a bit more. I imagine it'll level out once things have gotten going and less time is needed setting up the world and such.
red chamber dream
hard to believe there've already been 5 episodes. i'm not worried about the pacing though, since the creators of the show are writing every ep. the plot progression is more along the lines of an anime, which makes sense given the 13 ep season.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I actually like that they've put a bit more time into the world building than strictly focusing on the characters. Republic City's a pretty interesting place and seeing how it's structured puts a neat perspective on the Equalists and why they might want to change things. Like they aren't like the Fire Nation in the last series where they're this big scary army looming over everything, they have their army sure, but that's not the real danger of Amon. Fuck stripping benders of their powers, the army of chi blockers, the real threat of Amon is that he might be right. Every non bender that gets fucked over by the Triads or the police is at least one more supporter for Amon's little fun time party, and anyone can learn to be a chi blocker unlike bending.

Seeing how they resolve this issue without proving Amon right about benders giving no fucks about anyone else and also not making it look like a win for him should be fun.

yeah it's cool seeing a totally different theme to this series as opposed to avatar. it's more personal and allegorical than avatar which was more or less a typical hero-goes-on-an-adventure tale. changing things up is good.

btw i've been listening to talkin toons eps all day, thanks for the rec
