OH MY GOD KORRA GOT AN AIR BISON

ok yeah this show is going to get awesome just like i thought
Almost happy
Well maybe the lion turtles are the ones that granted them the power to bend and they just learned to hone their skills by observing these animals/the moon. After all from everything we know about the world it doesn't seem like it's possible to learn bending from nothing, as there has never been any indication that non-benders could actually learn bending.

well, that's what the explanation in tla always was, or at least seemed to be ... you're right though, it was pretty vague so there's room for expounding

also, now aang's gift of energybending from the lion turtle makes a lot more sense and makes that even less of an unreasonable deus ex machina in season 3. though i was never one of the people who thought that game out of nowhere; there were many allusions to the lion turtle in every season of tla.
Almost happy
Also that island Korra landed on was totally a lion turtle. They seem to keep interfering with the Avatar every now and then when they need to.
Almost happy
Yeah I was never bothered by the energybending in A:TLA either.

oh another possibility about the origin of bending is that the whole "humans learned from nature" thing was just a legend that got started and passed down over thousands of years so that everyone believed it

would make sense and would also be kind of cool considering how much legends play in to chinese culture

someone on twop said this better than i could so i'll just quote:

Quote:
Those episodes totally changed the context of the season thus far. Instead of an aimless Korra, we see that it was her character growth happening- all the avatars have been great heroes, but their human fatal flaws were intrinsic parts of the character too (Aang running away from his destiny and letting the war rage for a century, Roku and his blind spot that allows the fire nation to basically destroy the world, Wan releasing the spirit of entropy/darkness). Last season really wasn't enough of a growing opportunity for Korra. She won, but she really didn't learn from it. This season has been all about her making enormous errors, like every Avatar before her. Now she has to fix what she broke- again, like every Avatar before her. And on top of that, she has a new mission- to assist Rava and defeat the dark spirit before it destroys the world. This is SOOOOO much more interesting than water tribe infighting or the battle to save republic city.
I like turtles.
Yeah, Korra's lack of development thus far has been irritating.  Also feel sorry for Bolin, who is even more relegated to comic relief and little else than he was last season.

I haven't caught the latest episode yet but I continue to hear good stuff about it.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah after that episode it kinda feels like they actually found something for Korra to actually do. The biggest difference between Korra and TLA to me is that throughout TLA you knew what they were going toward, Korra never really had that. Easier to develop characters when they actually have things to do.

I'm looking forward to seeing characters blinking again.

Also this. That would be super great.
Yeah just watched the Beginning two parter for myself and I have to agree that it's up there with the best Airbender episodes. My brother and I found it a lot more interesting and enjoyable than the current main plotline, which is kind of a problem. Really looking forward to where the story goes from here now that Korra has a path to follow.

And so many things about Airbender make a lot more sense now because of this too, which is great. We were wondering how much of this was planned from the beginning and how much was made up during Korra's development, because if it was a more recent decision they did a fantastic job at fitting it into the established canon of the series.

yeah for sure, and in regards to my previous question about humans learning bending from nature, iirc it was never stated that humans got their bending power from nature but rather they learned to "control the elements". so it makes sense that the lion turtles gave them the power, then they learned to control and use it by watching animals, such as we saw wan doing with the flying dragon. pretty cool how well everything fits together - avatar has always been good about that though. i can't think of a single instance where they've retconned anything, or had a plothole.

wild, serena williams voiced one of the firebenders in this ep, and also a character in tla

yes, that serena williams. apparently she's a huge fan of the series

I already knew about her from TLA, she's the prison guard in The Day of Black Sun who's nice to Iroh before he breaks out. Didn't realize she was in one of these episodes too though.

another good episode. iroh! <3 shame his original voice actor died, but the replacement did a pretty good job i think. he sounded a little off, but not in a bad way really. excited to see where the rest of the story will go, though i didn't care much for the "save someone or save the world" trope ... maybe because in that situation i would always choose to save the world. all for the greater good, man.

Well I guess she figures she might still have a little time to close the portals again before it's too late, or to actually manage to defeat Vattu like Wan did.

Anyway, it's pretty incredible just how much difference the better animation now that they are back with Mir makes for the whole feel of the show.

Spirit Guide Iroh is the best thing ever.

Man the last 4 episodes (last 2 where released online on midnight the same day the previous 2 aired) where pretty damn good. I have a couple of initial reservations about a few things that happened in the last episodes but I can get around that I think. Despite a weak start I think season 2 tuned out better than season 1 on the whole considering how great the second half (from Beginnings and on) was. Feels like there's so much stuff they can get into in the upcoming books now too unlike the season 1 finale which could just as well have been a series finale (and probably was initially intended as one as well).

holy shit they did release 4 eps in a single day. my sunday afternoon just got a lot better.

wow i liked bolin a lot more in that first episode (night of a thousand stars). he's becoming one of my favorite characters, while asami has dropped off that list. also really liked how the "movers" plot turned out, it fit in well with the whole roaring 20s theme
Almost happy
It's a bit sad how they almost completely wrote Asami out of season 2 (and didn't let her do much interesting for the little she was actually there), I really liked her in season 1.

And yes, that episode is entirely Bolin's, and his character really needed that because he's also been pretty sidelined for a lot of this season. The entire action sequence during the premiere was probably one of the most purely entertaining things they've done in the entire series so far.

OH MY GOD bumi's battle in the next ep is so great, loving the avant-garde jazz track that plays during it

umm ... how in the hell are they are ever going to top an ending like this one? i hope they don't even try, because that was pretty ridiculous. not in a bad way necessarily, just saying.

korra totally becomes un-avatared, then turns into a fucking light spirit and has a japanese giant alien battle in the middle of a city. then she leaves the spirit portals open, which is a pretty interesting twist. it can go one of two ways in my mind—the spirit portals remain open with no major problems, and humans interacting with spirits becomes a new norm for the series. this actually has a lot of potential i think, but i'm wondering if they're really willing to change the series that much. more likely is that there will be huge problems next season with leaving the connection open, and book 3 will be about korra trying to close it again (lol). we'll see. personally, i'd like to see the connection remain open.
Finally caught up with the rest of the season. (From after Beginnings to the end) Not entirely sure where they're going to go with this just yet but I have confidence they'll come up with something good. I agree though, it's going to be incredibly difficult to come anywhere close to the craziness in those final few episodes.

Also, Tenzin's reaction to Korra explaining what had been going on in the first half of the season was great.

some episodes leaked too but i think i'll wait for the premiere
Almost happy
Yeah IIRC it's not even the first episodes but something like 3 through 6, and they are dubbed in Spanish as they leaked from the Mexican Nickelodeon. So I'm definitely not going to be watching that :P But from what I've heard of those who actually haveh it seems very promising, supposedly more like A:TLA than the previous seasons. More than anything though I'm just happy that Studio Mir has animated all episodes this time.
Seems pretty action packed compared to what I remember of the Book 2 trailer. And being even more like Airbender is never a bad thing.

Do you know when it's starting?
