I'm interested to know exactly how he got Ridley to start his death sequence so quickly.  I've unloaded a lot more into Ridley than Saturn did in his preview and Ridley kept coming at me.  :-(

Hmm, a lot more? Actually, Ridley dies by itself after 5-7 or so seconds spent with his HP counter on zero. Perhaps it just wasn't a lot more... You could also try laying a powerbomb -- that will trigger him into doing a final grab.
>.>

*Is currently using last Power Bomb to activate a crystal flash in Ridley's room before the fight...*

Edit: 4 Super Missiles & 82 Missiles.  How many Charged Ice + Wave + Spazer shots after that will i need to drop his health to zero.

*Ponders writing a list of all SM questions he has and PM'ing Kejardon*
Damage to Ridley? That's easy.

Missile -- 100.
Charged I/W/S -- 300.
Power bomb -- 2x200.
Super Missile -- 600.
Charged I/W/P -- 900.
Wave power bomb shield -- 300x4.
4 x 600 = 2400

82 x 100= 8200

8200 + 2400 = 10600

So...  How much HP does Ridley have in total?
Below picture is the math of battling Ridley.  The first set of numbers is Saturn's Ridley Fight, the second figure is my Ridley Fight.

Can anybody guess where I'm losing time that results in my losing the fight?  [/sarcasm]

He's got eight energy tanks and one reserve tank...  I've got nine energy tanks and two reserve tanks...

Yeah, I do believe the problem is that I suck.

Its simple from the look of the math shot. Use more Supers and you shouldnt even need to use that many standard Missles. Also use more charged shots or wave shield shots since they deal even more damage then Supers, but use Supers as your "base attack" since they are fast and easy to aim. The first time he speeds up you should switch to wave shield shots, although remember the number of E Tanks you have determines how long you can withstand the heat while fighting him. Saturn figures his run has Samus lasting 80 seconds before dying from the heat. You have 1 more e tank and 1 more reserve tank so Id say you can last maybe 100, 110 at the most.

"Base Attack" meaning that you should use Supers until you have four tanks left at the very least, then switch to Wave Shield, cause in theory, you will have six tanks left, four before reserve and two after reserve.
I'm going to have to restart the run from the very beginning.  The nearest save state I have to Ridley is the room immediately before him.  I've got just enough Super Missiles & Power Bombs to execute a crystal flash to leave me with 4 supers.  If I time it right, the explosion from the crystal flash's executing power bomb kills a blue face creature and it leaves behind power bomb ammo, I drop on top of that and get back one power bomb.

Yeah, gonna have to restart the run and work Nofair differently to end up with more supers.

Wave beam shield is ideal, considering the damage it does is greatest for its price costs, but getting close enough to Ridley to have all four hit without getting hit myself is tricky.  Even Saturn takes hits in his preview getting all four of the wave shield shots to hit.

EDIT: since when is viola a tag for a smiley?
Actually, to me, it looks like Saturn doesnt have to take hit when using Wave combo (he gets hit once), but it does not matter because in the end he still has plenty of energy to reach the next energy tank. If I remember correctly, he does consider it pretty difficult to hit all four. Doing that constantly must really be a pain in the bottom so dont try that one unless you really dont want to challenge yourself.  :)

How did you get that energy tank behind the Charge Beam holding Chozo Statue? Since you had no gravity suit and there's only speed boost-breakable blocks how'd you get the boost? Isn't there water down there?

You can walljump up to the ledge that's above the speed blocks, then dash from left to right on it.  Charge the spark at the end, drop down to the water, then spark horizontally to the left to get through the blocks.

Dunno about a smiley tag, but it's been the censor for the common misspelling of "voila" (or "voilà" if you're fussy) for a year or two.  I may be the only person who's had it show up when I actually was talking about the instrument it depicts. :P
Oh.  Could've sworn those litte blue face guys were called by such a name...

Oh, that's cool. Maybe someone should also make tags for "seperate", "becuase", "psuedo", "should/would/must of" and other similar mistakes? I'd be so grateful.
Saturn (Or anybody else that's running a rbo) how many Supers in total do you have?  I've got thirty total and I'm wondering if that's a good number...

Save 10 for a CF and use 20 on Ridley. Remember, 20 x 600 = 12,000, leaving 6000 for the Charged I/W/P -- 900 x 7 = 6300, or if you can even pull off maximum damage with the Wave Sheild, it would only take 5 hits.
I ended up in the Ridley fight with 122 missiles, 14 supers, and 6 powers bombs.  So if I hit him with every last Super, then 96 missiles should finish him and perhaps a power bomb to get him to start his death sequence.  9 tanks and 2 reserve tanks should be more than enough to get me through the fight...
I skipped the Supers in Maridia completely. With 20 in total it still went pretty well at Ridley. If you DeathNoble have 14 Supers and 122 Missiles, I would EXCLUSIVELY use only this both ammos all the time. With frequent shooting without many pauses inbetween, Missiles do still much more damage than charged S/W/I or even PB/Wave combos in the same ammount of time. If you get them all in, the fight will be over pretty quickly. :)
The Ridley fight went well for me.  Ended with two full energy tanks and my reserve tanks untouched.  My missiles got depleted as did my supers...  I was sure to make every shot hit...  But he still wouldn't start his death animation.  So two Power Bombs later, he finally keeled over.  Ended with six power bombs as all my ammo.

I save stated way too late and Ridley's item drop had already been decided.  I got no supers back, two missiles, anbd a whole lot of power bombs.  I was hoping to get enough ammo to have one crystal flash, just in case, for the lower Norfair escape.  But to no avail.  I followed your last "preview teaser" to the last movement.

That is to say...  I followed it as best as possible.  I am doing this on ZSNES so only slowdown is available to me, not frame by frame.  The only real challenge the escape presented was what you, Saturn, were pulling off at 5:12 to 5:16 in your third teaser.

I ended up back in the bubble room with nothing in my eserve tanks and six energy left.

Now...  I've come to the awful realization of what I've got to do to get into Botwoon's room.  The Ice Beam 14% run Motchroid glitch through the pipe trick right before Botwoon is required.

Ah well...  The reward for this next boss is Plasma.
i REALLY want to see this run...ugh...why are you working on a redesign TAS instead?  RBO suitless is way more interesting...i cant wait to see how you handle maridia

You know there man, you just said everything I've been thinking this whole day. You a psychic or something?
In comparison to his other videos, Maridia won't be that interesting, I'd expect due to the slowdown from the water.  At best, his next teaser video will probably just show us the Draygon fight and maybe some twisted method of grabbing Plasma.  Or something.

Does anybody know exactly where he's at in this run, btw?
I've heard Saturn's putting his RBO-run on hold. Working on Redesign and Super Metroid any%-TASes on the moment from what I know.
Right, I didn't touch this run for almost a half year now. The very hard move optimizations in Maridia suitless were too frustrating for me. It's much harder in slow water compared to air. I gave up for now and started the any%, later the Redesign any% instead. Once I get enough time, will,  and  especially patience to do many tests again, I will continue this run someday. It definitely will be finished, don't worry about it. Just give me time. :)
So...  What are the exact directions for defeating Draygon and ending up on the ledge?

Something about a Crystal Flash and him grabbing you.  And my Wave Beam shield is going right through Draygon.  Not even doing no damage against his back shell, let alone hitting his gut to hurt him. Maybe I'll try Spazer and Ice...
This seriously needs to be on the site, along with stuff like the reset glitch.

Copy/pasted from a post I made last night on gamefaqs:

It's fairly complicated. By far the easiest way is to damage Draygon to the point where one super missile/charge ice/wave/spazer will kill him, then lower your health to the point where you can CF. Then, you have to perform the CF when Draygon comes in from the left side of the screen shooting gunk. He should grab you before the CF finishes. Then, let him carry you up to the top of the room and get him to drop you on the ledge by the door. To do this, make 14 and 3/4 circles on the d-pad, then press one more direction and he'll drop you. From this point on, do not press jump, because the interruped CF gave you one use-anywhere shinespark. You are going to use that to get out of the next room. Now, to kill Draygon, use either a lucky hit from a wave beam shield or a lucky hit from a ice/wave/spazer charge shot. He'll die, you can leave the room, then you can use your free shinespark to escape the next room.
Question:  For RbO run, if I have Plasma, should Murder Beam on Mother Brain be allowed?

Yeah, I'm intending to record a zmv of my Tourain portion of my RbO, just so I can have a lil' proof of what I've done...
