I wouldn't mind seeing an area of the ship/station completely overrun by wildlife so that man-made and organic elements are perfectly meshed together into a new environment. I know Metroid has done similar things before with areas like the Chozo Ruins from Prime and such, but I mean REALLY overrun by nature to the point where you can barely recognize what was constructed there in the first place. It would allow for some interesting mechanics in my mind, like having a bunch of vines wrapped around some object which could be hiding something behind them. A rainforest type of setting would be cool too. Lots and lots of plantlife and tons of variety in both the environment and its inhabitants. So basically something that's full of life and very dangerous at the same time is kinda what I'm looking for I guess based on those two suggestions. Think Brinstar kicked up a notch.
I think the word that sums up what you are describing is RUINS for sure.  Metroid is definitely known for ruined settings.  I'm still not sure if I prefer natural settings vs. engineered areas, and ruins seem to mesh the two.  I would really like to see another area that looks like the lower part of AQA from Fusion.  That is my favorite area in the game.

I'm not entirely sure how that would even happen though provided the ship stays in space.

Those pesky teenagers growing in their closets...
Well, the BSL had natural environments as part of its design, with vines and plants growing all throughout the corridors. (TRO at least) And I know those videos I found have a similar thing happening on a smaller scale. I guess whenever I think of ruins I tend to think of dead/barren locations rather than what I was trying to describe. But yeah, in the end it is basically just a different form of what I described, which has definitely been a Metroid staple since the beginning as mentioned.

OK, so what would be a good setting we haven't seen before/often in this universe? Metroid covers a lot of ground in the alien world department.
Indie Lover
a sewer/swamp setting would be good too... but i think maridia got the swamp part covered...

I won't spoil the ending, but, suffice it to say... things do not necessarily always have to be as they appear. ;)
Military base? or do the Corruption ships count as that?

That movie was dumb. It also was not overrun by wild life or in space. Space being important in this case.

Not saying it was a good movie. The point was more that, why would it necessarily have to sit in space, this supposed spaceship of Other-M? Most Metroid games actually do not play out entirely in space to begin with.
I'd like to see a new underwater/Maridia type area.  Maridia is my favorite area in any Metroid game, and I don't think its really been revisited.  The music is also just as important.

Because she flies here ship to it. Through space, where it is seen floating.

This isn't the 18 month promo vid we're talking about, right? Because that vid could simply mean anything. Anyhow... I suppose we'll just have to see what's what. I think I made my point - personally, I'd love varying zones.
I'm actually feeling really excited.
and honestly, I think this game is going to be remarkable visually, which seems to be in contrast to most people on this board.
It is a metroid game, so it will probably be beautiful. Even if the graphics aren't up to a galaxy/mp3 standard. The art looks like it will be there. My only issue is the Final-Fantasy styled cutscenes. They looks so good, and yet I'm just not a fan of the style. It's perfect when samus is in her suit though. where's the hype? this is the only active metroid board I'm aware of, and yet you people don't seem to care that a brand new main-series entry console game comes out in less than two months!

It's because most people here are only interested in fucking around with bugs, glitches and stuff. By the looks of things, Other M isn't going to have much opportunity to do that.

i don't think that's true at all. remember, we all had to have played metroid games for some other reason first. i really like a few of the games in the series ... what i don't care for is side-scrolling beatemups. we'll see though.

Let me rephrase that, most people came here out of a desire to screw around with glitches and whatnot. That is what the site is for, no?
I personally think that if Other M isn't at least better than Echoes, I might as well give up on the Wii. It's less a sense of hype and more hope.

...
With so many quality releases this year on all consoles, it's hard to stay hyped for a single game above all others until that game is right on top of us. (With me at least) I know I was that way with Galaxy 2 until I started seeing those "transmission" trailers Nintendo was putting up every few days. Only game between now and Metroid that I have a lot of interest in is StarCraft 2, and even that I haven't been as hyped for as I expected to be and that's a little more than three weeks away. Plus we just had E3 last month so a lot of our attention was diverted to all of the new announcements and trailers.

Sure, I love sequence breaking and speed running as much as anyone else on these forums, but I'm a Metroid fan at heart. The games themselves, regardless of whatever we've found here over the years, are the reason I play the series, love it above all others, and can return to them over and over again without losing interest. I personally can't wait to see what they do with Samus' backstory and character, and of course, there's that new spin on the quality gameplay that makes the series great. If I haven't shown it much lately, I know I will after I replay the series leading up to the end of August. Seeing as I haven't played some of these games in over a year or more it'll be a good refresher and build up my hype for Other M at the same time, which is part of my plan.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
The problem is I can still play Metroid Prime whenever I want and there's no chance in hell that this is going to be a better game.
^it's new.

it seems strange to me that anybody could spend that much times sequence breaking and speed running games, and not at least like the universe/ style/ secluded gameplay...something!

well echoze and corruption are pretty shitty games no matter how you look at them. so i don't exactly have precedent to look forward to this one.

Lies.

You may not have a precedent to like it, but are you not excited about the videos, articles, descriptions, etc???

no ... it looks crappy lol.
Sorry to say, but, for the most part I'm actually with ark on this. Echoes and Corruption did nothing much to contribute to the overall quality of the Metroid series and Other-M, well. You know what I'm afraid of with Other-M? That this whole switching between side scrolling and free motion is going to be implemented wrong. As in, it becomes an annoying gimmick used in all the wrong places.
