So other than that room with the camouflage creature where the guy looked like he was flailing around as far as movement goes, it seemed pretty smooth for the most part to me. Transitions from 3rd to 1st person looked relatively natural, and the gameplay was fast and frantic like the days of old. Again, as long as the weird movements can be put solely on the player's shoulders, it looks pretty good overall. Would've liked to see the Morph Ball in there somewhere though, although we probably know what to expect from that given that it looks like it use the same mechanic from Prime.

this actually makes the game look a lot better than i was expecting. not graphics-wise though ...
looks like it automatically aims the gun toward enemies in third person mode. i still don't like the viewpoint though.

Looks really good graphics wise for a wii game, I don't get how you still think it looks like an n64 game Ark.

It's because he expects his games to look like the girl next door or Jesus in a can.
MvC3 has, pretty much, TvC's controls

Fuck that.

Early Gameplay

Looking better each time I see the gameplay, certainly a plus. From what it looks like, the story will be handled kinda like Fusion where you get to run around on your own a bit and then be treated to some story elements before exploring again.

Edit: Didn't mention this before, but I am loving the fact that we're seeing a lot more vertical rooms and areas than the Prime series had. That's one of the few things I missed from the old games that the Prime series didn't do that this one looks to have picked up again.

Yeah, the vibe I'm getting here is 'Fusion in 3D', only without Adam! (Er... you know what I mean.) Sounds good to me.

Although I completely agree with whoever said that the Varia Suit couldn't come early enough.

Don't get what the problem is with that. I think the Power Suit looks fine. It's a bit brighter than we're used to, but so is the environment as a whole. We still need to see Samus after all, and if she didn't stick out from the background that would be a huge problem.

Edit: And I forget. Did we know the Spring Ball was back in this one? The beginning of the early gameplay video shows it clearly.

Bleh. Let's use the worst aspects of Fusion for our new game, it can't fail!

It's an absolutely hideous color. It was bad in Super as well but all of the colors in that game were sort of muted so that phlegm-y color was less ridiculous. Also you could sequence break it to get Varia really quickly, so that was nice. Wish they'd gone with the more yellow look of Prime and ZM.

Prime had a lot of vertical rooms though, Echoes and Corruption toned them down iirc, but Prime was pretty good about it.
Yeah true, Prime more than the other two had plenty of vertical exploration. Guess it's been longer than I thought since I've played those, but I am going to be going through the whole series again in late July - early August so I'll be ready for Other M.

As for the Power Suit, I still think it looks fine the way it is here, but I'll agree that the one in Prime looks better overall. (And at least this one isn't as bad as the Varia Suit from Fusion, that much we can agree on.)

Fusion Varia is a special kind of awful. It's like the early 90s exploded onto the already ugly fusion suit.
Why the fuck are you all being so goddamn bitchy about stuff that doesn't matter?  What's wrong with the color of her suit, and HOW can you compare this to N64 graphics?  Jesus Christ, it's a new Metroid.  God forbid anybody be appreciative.

God forbid people point out things that don't appeal to them in what is really just a glorified advertisement for a video game.

i like to play games that look nice. other m doesn't seem like it's going to look very nice.

what do i as a consumer have to be appreciative for? nintendo is the one who's trying to make a good game because they appreciate when i give them money for it.

Yet you play Metroid games, which have been consistently built on the less powerful console (save the prime series), and act as if you'd be able to get a Metroid game on a PS3 or 360 and expect the newer games to have graphics to match those of a 360 or PS3.

True.

I don't know how it looks bad, or why it matters, but okay.

It just kind of peeves me when people are bitching about something I'm greatly excited for.  I guess that was my main point.

Exactly.  Those consoles have beautiful graphics, don't get me wrong, but I'll take the gameplay of Metroid over the graphics of Halo or GTA any day of the week.

He never said that. "Looking nice" is independent of system hardware. There are N64 games that still look pretty good, despite shit-tastic hardware, graphical quality isn't all about horsepower. Pretty sure we've been over this.

Jesus, it always boils down to graphics...
it's sort of popular to bash wii graphics. hell even i'm doing it now with knight of ratatosk.
