just got X, a little late but not that it matters. i can't comment on the difficulty yet, but i definitely intend to hold back with grinding and the exp sharer to try and get at least a little bit of a challenge out of the game.
anyways, trainer customization is pretty cool and shows what the mii system should be like
so does the average amount of pokemon that npc trainers use ever increase? i'm on route 10 and feel like i've fought at most 2 npcs with more than 2 pokemon.
Sadly no, other than important fights most trainers don't have any more than 2-3 on their team from what I remember. Part of what makes the game a bit easier than others.
iirc the only trainers in the game who use 6 pokes are the e4, your rival at the end of the game, and the magikarp guy. so lame. they introduced so many cool mechanics to make battles easier this gen, but they forgot to make the games more difficult to account for them.
xy are pretty low on my ranking of the pokemon games.
I don't know, at least they're trying to do something different this time around instead of just cranking out a slightly tweaked version of the same game as they've done since gen 3.
it was probably the biggest jump of them all and had a bunch of stuff i liked - physical/special moves, new pokemon with good designs, new evos of old pokes, introduced all the online features
the more i think about it, the more i think gen iv is my favorite gen though

When you put it that way, yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Each gen, even if their games aren't as good as others, has made Pokemon itself better as a whole. The series is probably the most balanced it's ever been, there's tons of Pokemon variety to choose from, a bunch of different battle options, etc.
But personally I think 4 is my least favorite gen at the moment. Didn't like Sinnoh the region too much and most of my favorite designs come from the other gens. Platinum was good though, so I have to give it credit for that. Possibly the most challenging main adventure we've had yet. But if I had to choose, 5 might be my current favorite since BW1 had a lot of neat little twists to the standard in-game formula while having a lot of quality Pokemon that I like.
It's interesting that we didn't get to see a single triple/rotation battle in XY after they pushed it so hard in BW2 though. Don't remember seeing any of those until the post game and that's only if you choose the style in the Battle Maison.
I've been trying to get a full dex. Up to 224. Only 495 to go...
Haven't gotten a full dex since 1st gen but I've been attempting to do so with X/Y as well. Incredibly tough to max it out nowadays thanks to all of the event legendaries. Too bad they can't be traded on the GTS since I think I'm only missing Meloetta and Manaphy at this point. Actually Wonder Trade and the GTS could be viable options if you manage to snag something off of WT that's valuable or just happens to be the one somebody wants for a rarer Pokemon.
I always just try to catch everything I come across during the game, then build the party I want at the end, level them all up, then tackle the end game section.
I'm currently nearing the end of Victory Road, and my party is: L100 Tyrantrum L100 Xerneas L97 Golurk L93 Haxorus L90 Garchomp L90 Druddigon
i try to figure out the team i want to use pretty early on, so i can have fun raising pokes i actually want to use throughout the game. saving team building till e4 means the only thing you get to use your team on is the e4. and they're always easy anyway. think i finished xy with my pokes around level 70.
there is no reason to raise them much higher than 80 unless you need a particular move. the story battles are easy as shit, and wifi auto-levels. just a waste of time imo.
I didn't actually do much grinding to get there. I just made regular trips to the battle chateau throughout my game, and kept the Lucky Egg equipped at all times. Many of the opponents there were sending out Audinos in twos and threes, and each one was dropping 4500-5000 xp.My party was switched out as I progressed, each time I wanted a 'cool' pokemon. I clearly like my dragons though.
Bizarrely, the champion was a piece of cake after the elite four. They all got a hit or two in, but the champ went down in one attack each, with only the metal bell pokemon taking two.
Anyway, it's now done, so I'll need to get Zelda soonish, so I don't have too big a break from handheld gaming on my lunch.
