Also, how the fuck do people get through the main game that fast? It took me 35 hours to get through the story and beat the League.
I mean, you should, the only time Swords Dance isn't correct to use is if there's only one opponent and you can 1shot it lol
I just feel like I'm wasting a turn whenever I'm not dealing damage. I'm too used to JRPGs with multiple party members where you divvy up the roles and someone is usually always attacking or using items.

All these years, and I still don't value buffs and debuffs in Pokemon.

really? wow, i've been using them a ton. ribombee's quiver dance in particular is great. quiver dance is just op. debuffs are totally useless though, yeah.

you certainly never need to use buffs in the main game, but they do speed up the longer battles. they're key to competitive play as well of course
Swords Dance literally doubles your damage in one turn so at worst the battle takes as long as without using it
Feather Dance has been pretty useful for me in the single player.

well, yeah, you don't use them in that case

you only use swords dance, for example, if your mon is going to be in long enough for it to matter, or if you're fighting something that resists all your moves

i also like swords dance because it helps save pp. now that i'm in the late game, my mons mostly have 5 or 10 pp moves, and those go quick
Also Incineroar learned Outrage on top of Thrash, so if nothing else it can be the king of PP efficiency!

haha

i didn't let mine learn outrage, i'm running flare blitz, d. lariat, leech life, and sd
And then I learned it loses 30 base speed upon evolving ...

And I still don't know where to buy X Speed so that was fun
red chamber dream
ah man now the X items are ones i never use

they're so broken lol
red chamber dream
can basically turn any mon into a god, which kind of defeats the purpose of building a balanced team
They're not worth the money outside of big fights anyway

Would just have been nice to have 1 X Speed for every Elite 4 fight

Oh well

quiver dance or dragon dance
omg it's like they just removed the volcano challenge

lol @ people who make those videos

gf designs the series for kids aged 4-6

get ooooooooover it
I think it's pretty impossible to make PvE Pokemon challenging in a fun/strategic way unless they completely redesign the combat
red chamber dream
yeah also that

and it will always be "easy" for people who grind a lot
red chamber dream
it's an rpg, if you want to make it hard, just make it harder by putting limits on yourself

nuzlocke for example is a fantastic way to make pokemon more challenging
Honestly, the only time I feel challenge boosts the fun factor in an RPG is when you have tough side bosses and bonus dungeons to go through.
red chamber dream
agreed. when an rpg gets "challenging" that usually just means frustrating to me. see: several bosses in many tales games

when you can just grind to get around a challenge, i don't see the point. rpgs are about having fun
red chamber dream
oh yeah and people who just use their starter to power through a pokemon game and then complain it's too easy can also shut up

go missing half the fun
Some people like the way MegaTen games handle high difficulty, but I kind of don't.
red chamber dream
oh weird, i've never heard "megaten" before, just "smt"

but i haven't played any smt games so i wouldn't know that community
