Well folks, the third course is being served, and you're all invited to have a taste!

Soup is sort of the culmination of all my hacking prowess, and as such, will most probably be my last hack, at least until after I get my degree in Computer Engineering, at which point I will hopefully be a master of ASM.

The patch posted here will work on the usual Rom: Super Metroid [JU] (!), and it is unheadered.

If you've played Gravy or Puddin, you know sort of what to expect, except much cooler, and more fun.

I'll say this up front: Unless you can speedball, or are willing to learn, don't play this hack.
Other techniques required are: Wall jumping, Bomb jumping (never IBJ), Mid-air morphing, short charge(all of which are possible in realtime), and general ingenuity (some of the things you'll see in Soup have never been done before).

There are also a few techniques required to get "100%" in Soup. I will not say exactly what these are because it will give away hidden routes and secret items, but none of the items past these unusual techniques are necessary to beat the game.

As of right now, there are no serious problems with the game, but it is noteworthy that the map is frequently unreliable regarding where you have and haven't been, so try to use your memory as best you can.

I put the "100%" in quotations because fully completing this hack, with all items will result in 82-84%. One of my posts on the 4th page will explain this.
The item totals vary, depending on which orde you collect your items in.
The totals I'm positive about are 14 etanks and 5 reserve tanks.

Yes 5 reserve tanks.

Anyway, I'll set up an Elites list for those of you who beat it, just post your completion time and %.

Elites
1. Cpadolf (40% in 1:52)
2. Acheron86 (77% in 3:41)
3. Moogle Emperor (62% in 3:32)
4. Captain Canada (51% in 3:21)
5. Xaggoth (57% in 3:18)

Hated by all
So, this is a trick-master hack, huh? I'm not going to burn my laps with a bowl of soup while playing this. I'll just see how it is, I'm not going to play it for real.

Edit: Damn, I die way too easily. =/
I must try tomorrow, after school.
So, I herd you lieked my bomb torizo room design  teach

attachment:
I did. It's quite nice, and a good way to make it hard, without being too hard. I was careful to change it up a bit though, as well as making the fight itself different, so it wasn't like I was ripping it from you. Tbh, I made it that way, then realized it was way too similar to yours, then changed it a bit.

If you want me to, I'll fix it quick and change the room to something else.
No, I don't care, although the treadmill makes the fight rather easy in your ver since you can basically avoid all damage. Shocked That's basically the dilemma I was having and attempted to solve by throwing in the crumble block, to make it less easy to camp over by the door.
ugh. I cannot mockball in such small spaces >_<

I am in the room before you would normaly get Spazer. I notice that the door id a super Missile door, and I am out of supers. and both exits are sealed...

Try killing all the enemies in the room. The maws can be bombed.

Camping by the door takes more time than fighting more agressively though.

If you can make it up to the top left of the room, there is a spike shooter that always drops a super missile, if you can't make it there.... try, try again. Slowdown will help if you really have a hard time.

simupost edit: What Acheron said is a better solution. You'll still need to make it up to the top left though...

Awesome, finally released!
In Norfair atm, heres some thoughts so far -

*I guess I was mistaken, I thought it was a full hack. No matter. Your meals are always great.
*There are some map issues.
*When I first entered the bomb torizo's room I thought it was going to be an interesting fight. He attacked once, and it wasn't even hard to evade. The boss is actually harder as is..
*I like how you employ perfect mockballs, like those ones you have to execute flawlessly or you'll be a few crumble blocks shy on the roll.

I was so sure there was something past the springball-only path in WS, but I just got the E-tank. Hrmm.

I mistakenly anounced it as a full hack, but then took a look at the definitions on the hack list, and revised it to a 2/3 hack, so you weren't really mistaken.

Unfortunately, yes. Though I'm intrigued to know where the issues are in Norfair, I thought I had the problem contained to the WS. Btw, the map in WS is completely unreliable.

Well, like I said, those interested in a harder fight could find it if they were more aggressive, for example: in a TAS, the person isn't just going to camp, now is he? Also, by the time you finish it, you'll be wishing more of the bosses had safespots...  Wink

Actually, there's more room for error than you think. Some of them do seem like the timing is limited, but depending on where you land; when you hold the dash button; and where you jump from, theres more options than you'd think.

not only is that the second time i was warned of a simupost tonight, but its by Acheron again.... weird.

Anyway, the etank is it, but you'll be glad that you went and got it. Every little bit helps. Nice to see you're moving along quickly.

Well, I'm stumped. I've got Varia, Spazer, Charge, Morph, Bombs, Spring, Missiles, Supers, and Speed Booster. I imagine PBs are next but I'm not sure where to look. Guess I'll take a break.

Edit: Did another full loop and still no luck. Found a place where Wave would help, but I can't find that either. There's literally no doors I can find that don't need PBs or Wave, so I have to have missed an item, but I'm tired of looking for tonight.

The item you need is:
grapple

The path to get to it is:
the old ice beam path, and now that you have springball, you can progress.

Durh. I could have sworn I need PBs that way. Now I know. :P

Edit: No, now I remember. I can't speed boost in water, so I can't break those blocks. And there's nowhere nearby to do any crazy speed techniques.

Edit again: No fucking way did that work. Brilliant!
I actually found that little quirk of the game by accident... I couldn't believe it either

Very much sort of. I've had a really bad virus for the past week, so pudding, apple sauce, and soup were pretty much all I ate at all. Applesauce and soup didn't sound as cool as Puddin, so there ya go.

Why do I like using old quotes?  I don't know...
Almost happy
Completed the hack, clear time 1:52 and 40% item collection. I'll write more in depth later on what items I got and such and the overall experience. But I can just say that it was for most of the part a superb hack :P

Well.... that never happened in testing. What exactly did you do to make that happen?

And I could've sworn I fixed that. Well Crap. I'll see what I can do, but it might take a bit seeing as I have to work most of today. If anyone could tell me what the scroll PLM's index and index2 would have to be in order for it to scroll left in that room, I'd be very appreciative.
