Beat it.

Nice hack; first one of yours that I have actually beaten. >_>
The wave beam trap was especially surprising, funny, frightening, happy, sad, and a little gassy.

Not sure about gassy, but yeah, definitely one of my better thoughts/accidental findings.

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
It turns out that one room in maridia I was having trouble with isn't the only one, pretty much all of maridia is preset up to that point. I don't know why, and I've patched the shit out of this ips. I fold. Sorry, was really really looking forward to playing this, alot.

Send me the patched rom by some means or I don't see this working out  :(
I second that motion towards the wave beam. Hilarious though.

Yeah, you'll just have to make two trips.

The Ridley battle was epic! Your hacks have such ingenious ideas. Amazing statue the room after too. Love seeing that kind of alien stuff in a hack.  Wink

The escape time was humorous, but I wonder what sort of events you can trigger with that timer still running. I'll go back to tourian and see if mother brain re-initiates.

Glad you got to finish it, but what do you mean about the escape? Did I leave a grey door blue by accident?

Many were blue.
Hmm, come to think of it, I didn't really look. I think its because of the massive amounts of door PLM shields that I added. Oh well, nothing serious anyway. Have fun exploring for 2 minutes, lemee know about any serious glitches.

The thing that gave me the biggest head-ache...?  In the (Old) Reserve tank (and hidden missle) room in Norfair -- having to use the speed ball.  Literally.  Even with Slo-Mo.  My hands even began to hurt.  I was starting to think I forgot how to mock-ball. laugh new

The first time I played through I did it in a few.... okay, Several tries.  But the 2nd: the only thing I can compare that experience to is SMR "Dead Man's Canyon".  Because you die of old age before you figure out how to wall jump.  :P

Was the trouble because of the scenario surrounding the speedball? You need speedball in the room after Botwoon as well, and that one can be just as frustrating.

Granted, I can't do that one on my first try just because the slope pushes you down faster than you'd think it would, and jumping too early makes you hit the ceiling.

Did any of you found the missile hidden in that room the first time through?

Also, Dmantra, I seem to have just noticed your other posts.
Let me just say that praise coming from you, especially about the statue, means a lot.
I ran through this again, without saving, kinda looking at some speed tricks because I really like this hack.

1:18 was my time, I closed the window before I saw my % but I had 55 missiles, 8 supers, 2 pbs, 9 e-tanks, 1 reserve, all power-ups.

GT really had me worried when I went in with 6 e-tanks and killed him with 23 energy to spare. If I was a little luckier, I could have pumped some supers into him and less worries.

2 minutes? The timer was like 77 minutes. I thought it was either a joke cause everyone always makes it to the ship in time, or that since there was lots of blue doors during the escape, you could get some strange happenings during an escape event.

I may have made a -slight- change to Soup at the end for fun and forgot about it before sending the file to you. I had all my savestates at/past the MB fight and wanted to keep searching for items, so I had to make a few changes.  grin new

Don't worry, it's the only thing I changed.

I had actually just looked in SMILE and notcied my doors were fine, but I wasn't going to press the issue.

Thats... quite fast. By my calculations, that would give you 39% assuming you got X-ray, 38% if you didn't.

How on earth did you manage to fight Draygon, GT, and Ridley, with such little health/no CF opportunities? Not to mention MB's room can be tricky with such few missles, though I imagine you used savestates often. Anyway, good job. Once you confirm the % (xray or not) I'll put it up on the list next to your other time.
Anywhere, everywhere
Draygon's easy if you grapple kill him.

Well, at 4:05, I nabbed 80% items. I have no idea where you hid the 5th reserve tank. I ended with 18 SMs/14 PBs as well.
No x-ray but I actually had 10 e-tanks, my bad. I'm seriously thinking about speed running this as its something different and I just love Maridia without gravity suit.

Draygon wasn't a problem at all with 4 e-tanks and a reserve. I lost nearly two e-tanks to her. If Draygon was coming to the left, I would get a charged shot and whatever missiles I could, morph into ball, move right into the quicksand, and lightly spring ball. If Draygon was coming from the right and I would stand on the far left of the crab and just pump charged shot + missiles.

GT wasn't so easy, I might pick up another e-tank before it. But all I really did was jump and fire charged ice+plasmas in him. Like I said before, if I was lucky, I could have pumped my 7 supers into it and made the battle a little quicker.

Ridley was cake too, 7 e-tanks at the very most are needed to kill him.
I began the battle with a charged plasma+ice+wave and pumped my 7 super missiles into him and then I just used my charged shots and got the early kill by getting Ridley to grab me.

No savestates. And for MB's room, I froze the rinkas and stood on them and started pumping the zebetites. I'm thinking of picking up more missiles because I had to refill with 1 zebetite and MB's glass to go. And the reserve was unnecessary (I got the speedball one in norfair, first try :D)

And I never even CF'd on my first playthrough either. The bosses aren't that hard.

Hahah! And here I am trying to wrap my head around all the possabilities of a timer being that long.

I salute you sir! No savestates.... thats good stuff. I can't believe I never even thought to freeze the rinkas...

Well, its kinda hard for me to know which one you missed if I don't kno the 4 that you got...

The reserve locations are:
1. The old Norfair Reserve tank
2. The WS pre-springball room
3. The maridia sandfall room
4. The old green brinstar reserve tank
5. There is a reserve tank in the room where the space jump is. (I suppose you missed this one? Xray is your friend.)

I have a full run of the game with all the items collected if anyone is interested. It's played by me, so the quality of play is slightly lacking, and the rerecord count is high, but if you all want to see it, then I'll put it up here. Especially if Sneaky ends up speedrunning this, knowing where faster items are could definitely help.
I'm pretty sure I have the items I need to pick up down (I uncovered some missiles that I originally didn't know while shooting randomly in my last run through).

I would like to see it though. I found a good deal more items, mostly missiles, so I know where nearly all of the items are. The rest are just ones I'm sure that I can't find anyway.

Also </3 Kraid.
Edit history:
Cardweaver: 2008-04-23 07:52:56 pm
For whatever reason, I can't seem to get it all in one smv, so here's all 5 parts.

As far as Kraid goes, he's hard to change a lot without ASM or hex editing knowledge, both of which I lack, so I'm glad you liked him.

edit: The route I take isn't exactly the intended route, but it only strays once when I do early Kraid.

First one ends after Kraid, second one ends before Maridia, third ends before the trip back into Norfair, and the 4th one ends in the middle of a room transition (I was gonna be late for class...).

I recommend watching the 5th one all the way through, at least until MB because there is 1 item in Tourian that I think all of you missed.

These videos are for SNES 9X Version 1.43-Improvement 9, people. Version 1.51 doesn't work.

Edit:
I like how you put the classic Metroid and Zero Mission treatment to the Mother Brain room.

Edit 2: I wonder how this will work on Version 1.43-Improvement 12/Beta 8.
Edit 3: Ver1.43-Imp12/Beta8 now works. At least I know how many frames are playing on that. How can you turn on the frame counter on any other version?
