Seconded. Part of what I love about watching a speedrun or TAS is that they totally break the game in the process.

Yeah, a good example of this is when BlueGlass beat GD without the Gravity suit, spring ball, screw attack, Plasma beam, Wave beam, highjump boots, and some other "softcap" required items. I was shocked that he was able to do it. And of course Saturn proved that the spacejump is skippable as well. I mean I sort of had a feeling all of those were skippable besides Plasma and screw attack (didn't take into account SB waves are plasmatype...) but it was nuts that someone was able to actually do it.

Quote from Cardweaver:
I normally fully endorse SB's, but this one is fairly serious. It would be the equivalent of getting Varia after Kraid in SM: Impossible.

The second reason why I'm hating on this one is that it wouldn't take TAS conditions to perform. IBJ is fairly simple once you get the hang of it. If it required a ridiculously short charge, or something else near impossible to pull off, I'd be fine with it.

Wait, he said he got it at the top of the Maridia/Crateria elevator shaft, but doesn't that already mean he's been through getting grapple and would be on his way to Draygon anyway? He'd still have to kill Draygon to lower the statue even if the reward is a repeat item that he already has. Then again, maybe you're worried that it'd allow people to go back and collect more items to make Draygon easier?
Huh... you really think it's that big of a deal?  I wouldn't think so.
You can't get them before you have the Gravity Suit  (unless I'm missing something... the path I used was blocked with falling sand underwater, no way to climb that without Gravity that I know of), which puts you pretty much at Draygon's doorstep. I would think that the amount of time you need to spend backtracking to get the PBs would be longer than the time you'd save going back to Draygon with better equipment. All the SB does is let you fight Draygon whenever.

Thank you for pointing this out. I was thinking you didn't need gravity for some reason. I'll leave the new patch there, but feel free to ignore my rant/request to use it for speed runs/TASes. I won't post the old patch back (the only thing different is I changed the green door to a yellow one) unless I need to, but if for some reason its required, someone let me know. (I'd have to make a new one, forgot to change the name of the existing patch and the new one wrote over the old one.)
Btw, here's one I forgot to post. You won't be able to fix this without altering your intent slightly. Allowing Samus to grapple crabs by necessity also allows this to happen. Also, there are probably a million other ways to get stuck with the Grapple Beam when there's a wall nearby grapple points, but I'd be too lazy to find them all, people would probably just ss out of them, and they'd require drastic level design alterations to fix anyway.

Thats easily fixed with square slope blocks!  Now finding all the spots.... not so easy!
because the crabs move, there would be too many blocks to worry about. Heres where I go with an old standby, and say "Grapple at you own risk"

Oh goody.  Crocomire is into demon growl death metal.

But I might be able to defeat him.

edit,  okay.  Don't know why I posted.  :P

edit2 or 3: I used the grapple beam on a mocktroid (in Maridia).  It keeps flashing and no other weapons can hurt it.  But it doesn't move either.  :P

Having lots of fun with soup so far...

Heres a little SMV I did showing what would have been a cool way to get a missle expansion, and then the way to get it!

As such, its a spoiler so don't watch it, ya da ya da ya da....

Its recorded with Snes9X v1.51

Demon growl death metal?

Anyway, for the mochtroids, the grapple freezes them where they stand. Kinda phases them out.
Beaten last night.  It was a lot of fun.

Clear time: 3:25
Items: 73%

Is 100% the max or is it less?  If it's 100%, I really have no clue where you've hidden these things! :P
Glad you liked it.
82% is the max, but this can be confusing because the pbs and supers that aren't in orbs only count for 1/5 of a %, and those in orbs count for 2/5 of a %.

looking for a place to go next, I'm in maridia. everywhere I need to go is blocked by pb blocks. I noticed one area at the bottom of maridia but the quicksand is too tough to pass. I don't usually get stuck this easily..

spring and grapple (and the obvious ones to get these two)
You should head to the top of Mainstreet Marida, then grapple your way to the top left of Mt. Doom. After that, follow the original's path to Draygon, but explore for items on the way.

Sorry but I'm not cultured in the ways of fast reference sm locations.
The part where I'm stuck is the room with the maridian elevator off in the background, that grapple area, shit maybe thats actually called mainstreet lol. Anyways theres pb blocks blocking me from entering the room. So i went and fetched ice (and some more stock) to get up that other room above (grappling the crabs) and there wasn't anything there either.

Hell, there should be a list of these 'coined' area names. I remember wondering what the hell gauntlet meant awhile back.
from the room where you grapple the crabs up to get an etank, head down and to the right. Then head towards Botwoon. Once you beat Botwoon, the path leads straight to Draygon. Beware of speedball.

Maridia Mainstreet is the room right above the noob tube
Mt. Doom is the large room through the top-right door of Mainstreet.

Yeah thats where I'm stuck. The path to botwoon requires pbs or so it seems.

It doesn't require PBs. After you go east from "Mt. Doom" you can grapple your way up off the crab dudes or drop down. You'll want to drop down and then go right, then up in the next room.
No it doesn't. the room that you say you're in, the room before the pre botwoon room, in it you should be able to just grapple your way to the top, then go through the blue door. Then in the pre-Botwoon room, the blocks can be shot out of the way.

In the first pic, Green means moving, red means jumping, and blue indicates grapple.

In the second pic, all those blocks are shot blocks, so choose a path.

Repatch your ROM and make sure it has a unique name, I guess?

I did, but I got a message during the patch
'The file has been patched, but the data in the IPS file appears to be truncated or misaligned...'

Actually got this message the first time too but forgot.
Why is it that every single cardweaver hack always ends up with some sort of rom issue for me.
5:39, 60%. I'm definetly starting over.  How can anyone be this bad?  laugh new

Cardweaver: 2008-04-20 02:02:43 pm
Not bad necessarily. You probably explored more than most people, and 60% is nothing to scoff at.

edit: Dmantra, try patching the clean rom with SMILE. Thats what I use.

edit2: It seems that I cannot manage to get the total item % right no matter what I try. I just played through, and got 83%. I have, however, figured out why this is possible. There are two items (a powerbomb and a missle pack) that share indices with other items. Thus, when you get one, the other goes away. Therefore the maximum % can be anywhere from 82-84%, depending on how you get your items. I will consider that get 82% on the same status as those with 84%.

And for those of you who care for a challenge, the fastest time, with max %, that I was able to do was 1:47 with 83%.
