Holy hell was the way to the
Ice Beam
path rediculous! Finally did it right after about an hour. Due to poor spring ball skills. Wow was that creative though, nice job on that. :)
Well, there is only one way to say this to y'all. I'm stalling my Soup speed run for a while. I haven't gotten much progress on it when I was working on it and now I've lost my motivation. I've also gotten myself into a Metroid Fusion 1% speed run and reworking on my Castlevania CotM speed run so I won't be working on my Soup speed run until I actually want to lol.

Good news is that when I come back I will redo the speed run and make it look pertiful.

Excellent hack so far. It's quite a good refresher of my old skills.  laugh new

Anyways, I think I've gotten into Kraid's lair earlier then you intended(right when I first saw the lair I was able to go in).

Edit: perhaps this was the right place to go :P

Either way is ok. It just takes a lil' Diagonal-BJing to get in early.

Oh my. Very nice hack. All the puzzles were challenging, tricky, and satisfying, as well as aesthetically pleasing. The boss battles were unique, but many times were very annoying (Draygon/Ridley OMFG). I had to use some slowdown for ridley and draygon. Embarassed

This hack, I would say, is your best yet! I loved the wave beam and I especially liked that springball thing in the grapple beam room. This was a very nice refresher of why I enjoyed Super Metroid so much before I stopped playing for a few months. Congratulations!

Edit: I noticed that a few of your puzzles/designs were EXTREMELY similar to some of the one's in my hack. Great minds think alike I gues xD.

I recently just ran through the game without much optimization although still trying for speed and I got a final time of 1:06. I still don't think I will seriously speed run this for a while. Although, with a very well optimized speed run, I see sub hour as a possibility.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Clear Time:  3:53
Items:  55%

I didn't realize the Ice Beam was a Springball trick!  I got it after Gravity, building a shine in the pool and carrying it up and diagonal shining after I got into the room.  Then I went and killed Draygon.

I used lots of Charge Combos with Plasma to kill Gold Torizo, and killed Ridley (barely) on my first try which felt awesome.  Draygon spanked me around for a long time.

I never did figure out what to do in the X-Ray scope room.
Good news: I'm back in action. After speaking with Cardweaver last night on rs, he somehow motivated me to get back into speed running his cruel hack.

To kick it off, just a few speed tricks getting the plasma beam and to the Norfair elevator. The save states were to perfect the bomb door opening deal, the rest is unassisted.

I also saw something interesting while I was trying to speed run segment 2. It's part way, before the kagoballs.
When you somehow kicked off the beetom, I nearly shit myself laughing.

Very nice plasma run btw. I'm super hyped that you're not giving up on this.
Well, well. I'll give y'all a test segment 2. It's a test because I had an idea for Torizo and I had to use save states to test it out.. Tell me if you like the Torizo fight, Cardweaver :D

I think the torizo fight is quite nice. It's interesting that it's such an obvious safespot, but at least you're not standing on the edge of the treadmills just pumping charge shots.

Really nice to see you can kagoball now Wink
Hahaha. Those were lucky 1st shot kagos. I give myself 2 tries for each of them.
Just thought I'd let everyone know, Sneaky Paradox has "stalled" this run.

I'm sure he would use a different term, but I have faith  laugh new
Different term indeed. I have quit Super Metroid speed running. Thy faith is wasted  laugh new

Although I find it interesting that Cardweaver and I seem to be the only ones showing the love for this hack.
If I could make love with an inanimate object, I would do it with Soup.
Soup isn't really an object is it though? It's an abstract series of binary code. You'd have to settle for the hard drive that it's on  laugh new

[disturbed yet gratified] Um... thanks? [/disturbed yet gratified]

Watch out, Soup is on a lot of our hard drives... (Though maybe he could open in it a hex editor and print it out).

Uh waiter, Bolognab is doing SOMETHING to my Soup!  aiwebs_016
Well this is just silly.
Hey Cardweaver, did you happen to give bosses new immunities? Like Draygon can only be damaged by missiles, sms, charged spazer, and electricity, or GT immune to all but sms, missiles and charged plasma shots?
Bomb Torizo is vulnerable to missiles/charge
Sporespawn is vulnerable to charge
Kraid is vulnerable to missiles/supers/charge
Phantoon is missiles/supers/charge
I haven't figured out how to change Crocomires vulnerabilities
Botwoon is vulnerable to missiles/supers/charge
Draygon is vulnerable to missiles/supers/charge
GT is vulnerable to missiles/supers/charge/pseudoSA
Karate Pirates are vulnerable to anything with spazer or plasma, and missiles/supers/charge
Ridley is vulnerable to missiles/supers/pbs/charge

Other than the changes above (if I made any), I'm not really sure what you're talking about.
Okay, well after I posted I ran through my ideas and it wouldn't matter. What's your idea on a low% run? Spazer is required anyway, need plasma to do enough damage without major item collection, I don't know about ice beam or wave beam and I'm also in a hole with the zebetites and breaking MB's glass.

So my main worries are how many missiles to get and whether to get ice beam and or wave beam, I have energy tanks pretty much down.
If you're looking for missile counts, I'm not sure about those, but keep in mind you'll need enough powerbombs to kill the metroids if you skip ice. Wave is skippable without any bad effects (99% sure about this). Other than those and SJ, I'm not sure what else can be skipped. You're gonna need enough etanks to deal with ridley, which could be the biggest problem in the low%.

Does this mean you're back into running SM? I'm not sure a low % of Soup is the way to go, but heck, it'll be great to watch no matter what your time.

Muahaha, check my youtube, I returned not too long ago. And the speed run I did is WELL worth watching :).

Okay well I just did some testing (I opened my SS run and just tested through that). Ice beam MAY be skippable, I'll have to do further testing on that. I need 5 energy tanks to kill Ridley with plasma,wave,ice+2 super missiles. GT with plasma+ice was cake. And as far as the zebetites and MB glass goes, I need 7 missile expansions (35 missiles) and the first sm expansion (2 super missiles). Since sm expansions only reap a single super missile, and sms do 300 damage, missile expansions are more worth it... unless the decimal percentage would make the overall percentage lower. I'm gonna need your help with this one, Cardweaver. Also, did you say space jump was skippable? Does your chozo statue leading up to GT not require it?

After I get everything tested out and squared away, I'll do a test run with savestates and then a segmented, not so perfect, speed run.
