That was just where it originated, and when we decided to go by that name back in 2004, the SCU forum was a different place than many people remember it. (i.e. we could actually be proud of being members there)
...But that certainly isn't what this topic is about.
Ridley is not going to be in the final game, this demo is a small game to showcase the engine.
Let's not be hasty. :P You could make him... an Easter Egg, or Bonus Boss battle for players that think they're so hot and get a quick time on the game.
j/k. That's really up to you.
I know I could probably keep checking this topic, but do you have a thing where we can submit our e-mail address to get a notification if/when a final version is released? ... Edit. Or I can keep checking your blog.
I want to fight Ridley, Meta Ridley, Mega Ridley, Ultra Ridley, Super Ridley, Hyper Ridley, Dark Ridley, and Omega Ridley at the same time. While riding on Turbo Ridley's back. Inside Jumbo Ridley.
I think that's funny. Like I said before, Kraid would make more sence for the story. However, the sprite would've been too big for the Game Boy. I'm almost done with my remake as well, and you could compare.
The project has a dedicated spriter, Hyrule_SwordsMan. He´s redrawing the enemies to fit the overall style. Some shots of the new enemies in action:
I am redoing some enemies´ AI, mapping some of the second temple area, and balancing the stacked beam system. This is quite a challenge, since you get the beam upgrades in a quite weird order in the original game.
I´ll be posting progress more often, since now I have some more time to work on the game.
Wow, this is looking pretty cool, keep up the good work. I especially like the idea of bomb throwing, but I don't know if that's your idea or someone elses'.

What would be nice is if you added a hard/special mode where ridley or whoever replaces one of the metroids.

The bomb throwing was probably inspired by Super Metroid (where you charge your beam, morph into a ball, and a flurrie of bombs come out, but this time, it's been altered to throw.) Fusion and Zero Mission never did that.
Well I finally got around to playing the demo, it was pretty fun. Customizable controls would have been nice, so instead of using them I used glovepie to play with my classic controler instead, much better. If anyone wants, I can post the script I used.
You're right that the customizable controls would make the game better. I had some near-death situations because I hadn't gotten used to play with those controls, but the ones I use on emulators (Z for B and X for A and such).
