It's a fantastic job. The accuracy and consistency with which you've captured the MZM control design is what attracts me to the project.
This engine would be a great template for another fan project I've wanted to see: a true remake of the first Metroid, with the original map layout, and a difficulty geared to match the original.
My bosses... cakewalks... ... Ok, mister playerman1230, try fighting them with one item:
Thanks for your comments! If any of you experiences glitches with the game sprites (Samus dissapearing in some animations), please PM me, I'm trying to fix that and I can't replicate the glitch.
I had some trouble with ridley, running out of missiles and not being able to kill him fast enough with charged shots. Honestly the kraid in this was harder than the SM version, not that that says a lot. :P
Is there only one super missile pickup? I missed a few items but I only found one.
I got 12/20 in 9 minutes on easy. EPIC. The only problems I had were the music, and the slowness. The music was just too repetitive. but the boss music is fine. and I guess the slowness is just my computer.
1st playthrough. Died once fighting Kraid...*shameonme*
Had some problems with Kraid, but Ridley was quite easy. I did nothing else than standing on the second ledge on the left side, shooting his fireballs. Overall very nice demo, was fun to play. As an average/casual player I can say, that level design, music, gameplay, difficulty and item search kept me motivated. Waiting for more of your excellent work!
That was pretty dang fun. I like how open-ended exploring is. Ridley should have more claw/tail attacks, I think, and Kraid is super weak to direct morph ball bombs to the face (I had to use spider ball to attack him since I didn't get high jump until after I fought him). The music is good, but it's actually too busy for regular exploration; it's more "something's going on" kind of music than "wandering around ruins". Pretty good though, I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.
Stupid question: Should this be in with the old demo (i.e. Overwrite any old files)?
EDIT: Okay. I have to edit the notepad for the music configuration.
EDIT2:.... And now I don't have music nor some of the sound effects I had when I played it a moment ago. The only (new) music I heard was the at the intro. The next time I played it I couldn't hear it. Sound is set to 100 in the game. And I can hear some sound fx.
When I changed the note pad before I had enemy sound effects as well as upgrade sfx... The next time I played it it went back to the way it was before, yet nothing was changed in the music configuration notepad.
The required item is Bombs. You need it repeatedly throughout the 1% run. If anyone wants, I'll record a vid of me doing one (it won't be hard mode, though; Ridley is murder).
Already started items: Morph Ball, Power Grip, Charge Beam
Required item: Bombs
Things that would make your life easier: Spazer Beam, Super Missile, and an E-Tank or two.
Kraid was a total wuss when it came to me and the Spazer (leave me with the Power, same strategy, just be at a different angle, just take less than 40 EP damage).
Ridley slaughtered 250 of my health in Hard only. I only lost 80 when doing Normal.
Made a 45% Norm. Three E-Tanks, two missile packs, Spider, Bomb, Spazer, and Speed.
Edit to DM (since I don't feel like making a whole new post):
Ridley's patterns usually go throw fire at you, but sometimes, you stay in one place for too long, he's going to ram into you. DocM64 never did squat with the tail, so you don't have to worry. Just shuffle your vertical positions, shooting at fireballs to recover as you go. I usually just chock all my missiles when possible.
Kraid was a total wuss when it came to me and the Spazer (leave me with the Power, same strategy, just be at a different angle, just take less than 40 EP damage).
I found a strategy to take 0 damage every single time against Kraid. :P
I noticed one flaw in the game. It's that you can't quit the demo before beating the game and returning to main menu or before closing the program from the task manager.
