Yeah, I believe that Dark Samus pic is really just Phazon-corrupted Samus. I mean, she has shoes - not feet - and pointy knee things, just like Samus in power suit.

Retro can redesign characters' appearances, you know. Namely Dark Samus's.
it's really hard to tell cause there are some features that in clude samus and dark samus and some that both don't have.....it looks more like SA-X + Dark Samus kinda thing.... i guess we will have to wait and see....

btw..the visor looks like a skinyier version of the MP1 samus visor.....
Speaking of Dark Samus, I stumbled across this a few days ago while I was looking for info on Corruption:

It's a video demonstration for some drum game on the Wii, but as the demo is going on there is a TV playing some clips of Corruption. About 35 or so seconds in, you can easily see a closeup on someone's visor, and then what I believe to be Dark Samus walking across the screen. She appears to walk just like DS did in Echoes. (Unfortunately, the camera isn't real close to this image to get a good look at DS.) The segment ends with DS blasting off and out the window in the background. (The segment is roughly five seconds long.)

Is it just me, or does this image look very similar to the one that was released as Dark Samus?

Edit: I know we have a link to the first image in the first post, but I put it here for an easy way to compare them.

We'll just have to wait and see. I still don't think it looks organic enough to be the true Dark Samus, but at the same time the suit has the wrong shape compared to the Varia suit. Shoulders too small, torso less defined, knee spikes pointing in the wrong angle...

If it is Dark Samus, and I guess it is, then I must say I really don't like the design.
Personally, I like the design, but DS's visor looks narrower than the other pic's.  Also, if you watch the video closely, you can see at around 20 seconds what I can only assume is using the boostball while in hyper mode.
Cook of the Sea
That is a very organic design.

Was going to mention that, but I forgot. That's what I assume it to be as well.
Not quite as organic as the DS from Echoes. I'm missing the non-shoe like feet and the pointy fingers, and the little spots of phazon glowing through like some sort of mold.

One pro with the new design is that she's got Giger-like tubes. Everyone likes those.

Old design kicks more ass than the new (if that's even Dark Samus...I'm better it's Corrupted Samus, though - isn't she supposed to look similar to Dark Samus?), though neither look "dark" enough. It's not "Blue Samus", it's "Dark Samus", for Christ's sake!
it seems like dark samus had some special added armor. After all at the end of MP2 DS does look like the armor or whatever if all gone or something cause all thats really left (well to me anyway) are musscles and fibers.

Edit: Dark Samus works with the space Pirates in MP3 so it could be possible that he did in fact get some Pirate tec or just plain Armor or shield of some sort.
I love the fact that the lock on feature in the previous Prime games wont be in Prime 3. It makes it more fps-like.

Hopefully that will bring alot more people into the Metroid community, like people who are used to playing aim based fps games.

The lock on will still be there, it just won't be required.

That's ... not the point, though. It's not supposed to be an FPS.
Well, yeah, I know that. But I am just saying ...

I loved Metroid Prime and Echoes .. and I liked the lock on thing ... I know that the games are more geared towards puzzle solving and such. Its true that Metroid require much more thinking then a common shoot em up fps, but it is nice to have the mixed media of a realistic style shooter crossed with the confusing, dark twists of Metroid.

And it will draw in more people who like the fps style of games. Such as those who play *cough*Halo*cough* ... not that we want many of them crowding up our little Met communities ...

Why not? If they're truly interested in Metroid, more power to them.
As long as they don't start any: Who's the better character/X series is Better than Y series topics. Wink

I don't really like the Halo games in general, but it's very obvious that a lot of people do. I have to agree with Ark on this one: If they manage to find the greatness of what is Metroid, good for them. I just haven't found the greatness that supposedly exists in Halo. I've only played an hour of the first game's Singleplayer on PC though, so my view is seriously messed if you want a "fair" comparison. (My brother plays the multiplayer a bit with his friends, and he seems to really enjoy it. I figure that must count for something, right?)

Besides, wasn't there an interview somewhere with Retro confirming that Corruption should still be considered a FPA, even though Nintendo itself has been calling it a FPS?

err, at HIH, they're fine to have more people in their community... more people means that more glitches will be found faster.

(HIH is high impact halo)

Metroid Prime is an FPS.

No, it's an FPA.
He's right. It's and First person Adventure. Alot of people mistake that maybe because of the cannon firing or boss fights or something.
I'm sick of people calling it an FPS just because it's in first person and you shoot things.

The two terms are not mutually exclusive.

Huh, 13M13 is the one NOT making me bash my head against the wall today. Good work, keep it up.

Am I missing something?
Yep. First Person Shooters are generally what games geared towards loads and loads of action are called. Oh, hey, Wikipedia's definition sounds quite good in fact.

Quote:
[...] The term came to define a more specific type of game with a first-person view, almost always centered around the act of aiming and shooting handheld weapons

Metroid Prime isn't about shooting. In fact, once you've shot enough beetles and pirates and Ing, you almost always end up finding ways around them instead.

You could argue that first person adventures are a sub-genre under FPS, as Wikipedia does (thus placing games like Doom and Halo in its own sub-sub-genre; run-and-gun shooters)... but that's just making things stupidly complex. If we wanna go that deep, FPS is also a sub-genre under the "shooter" games. The category in which exactly every game that involves shooting exists.

The best thing to do is keep it simple: Halo is a first-person action game, Metroid Prime is a first-person adventure game.
