The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated...

Anyway, I gots some juicy info on the plot of the game, courtesy of a Nintendo Fact Sheet. This will be public info come E3, but for the moment, a friend of mine (who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of Nintendo's assassins coming after him/her) has provided it to me.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Format: Wii
Launch Date: TBA
ESRB: RP (Rating Pending)
Game Type: First-Person Adventure
Accessories: Wii Remote and Nunchuk Controller
Players: 1
Developer: Retro Studios

KEY INFORMATION
If you think you knew what it felt like to be the bounty hunter behind the visor, think again. Take aim at evil with Nintendo's revolutionary controller.
- Players control Samus by moving with the Nunchuk controller and aiming with the pointer, allowing for a level of immersion unlike anything they have ever experienced. Through the eyes of Samus, players experience a quantum leap in first-person control as they wield the Wii Remote, the ultimate device for the first-person shooter genre.
- Samus will employ well-known power-ups like the Grapple Beam and Morph Ball, as well as a bunch of new surprises, to help her survive her coming trials.

Game Storyline: The Galactic Federation's Base Sector Zero is under attack by the Space Pirates. Samus must boot up the generator to restore the defense systems. But at the end of her path, someone awful awaits her.

Characters: Samus, Dark Samus, the Galactic Federation, and many new bounty hunters!

How to progress through the game: The war initiated by Dark Samus and the Space Pirates rages across many planets as they attempt to corrupt each with Phazon seeds. Players use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to explore alien landscapes, hunt for weapons and information, and destroy the seeds. Saving the planets from Corruption isn't enough, though. Eventually, players must take down Samus' mortal enemy, Dark Samus.

Special Powers/Weapons/Moves/Features: Besides using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to pull off amazing feats like aiming and blasting in midair or at a full run, players also will have an array of different weapons at their disposal. In true Metroid fashion, these will become powered up as the game progresses. Not only that, but the controller will be used for a number of other game elements beyond the traditional first-person shooter standards.

So there you have it. Um, discuss, I guess. And yay for me for getting this first. Whee...

What? You mean the info from the PDF that's available on Nintendo's (rather un-private) press site? ;) :P
*shrugs* He gave me a .PDF file that contained the info, said it was pre-E3 material, and that it came from Nintendo. As such, I drew my own conclusions, although I have also now found this "rather un-private" press site. ;P

i think its rather disappointing that there is no multiplayer scheduled...
Cook of the Sea
Tim this is flamboyantly off topic but your new avatar kicks all ass.

Oh and I must say, I've experienced the P5 dataglove, so Prime 3's controls will have a lot to live up to to be unlike anything I've ever experienced.
red chamber dream
Wow, could Nintendo possibly emphasise more that the game will, in fact, use both the Wii controller and nunchaku attachment? >_>

Somehow neglected to mention this in the other topics, but both Samus and her counterpart look better this time around. DS moreso than Samus, of course, as the Samus model is nearly identical - maybe it's just the lighting.

I'm very happy about that. I think Hunters is meant to be the only multipayer Metroid franchise, so console games can focus on the single-play adventure.
who knows how much less prime 2 would have sucked without the multiplayer.

If they would have to sacrifice any single player for adding in multiplayer, Hell no. No multiplayer at all then.  But if they can make it hunter-esque, with both single and multiplayer being awesome, thats-a-mole.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
maybe leave multiplayer for mp4 or a different themed metroid game.
i don't have any problem with the removal of multiplayer. it means a meatier and more polished single player mode.

Guess I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

As for the HUD shown, I think we should expect more to see. Remember the difference in the touch-screen display between MPH:FH and MPH? They're surely hiding something from us. Heh, I'll be patient. Those pics wowed me but I'm not in a hurry or anything.

Looking forward to more info if there'll be more to come.
I liked the other DS better, this one looks more human now  :?
This thread is missing some very major interview material. For example, someone said in some interview that you won't have to select beams anymore (that's why there's no beam logos on-screen), but that they instead stack like in Super Metroid. And also that the visor types have been confirmed. Normal, Scan, Command (to indirectly control Samus' Gunship) and X-Ray (that has a much bigger part in the game than previously.)

I also happen to know the controls of the E3 demo if anyone's interested. Really simple to find out, just pause whatever footage at one of those "how to" screens that show up...

A shoots, B jumps, Z locks, C morphs. Down on the D-pad toggles missiles, the other D-pad directions correspond to the visors. Grappling is handled by locking and whipping the nunchuck attackment.

Why not add that stuff and make this our own inofficial fact sheet for people to read up on?
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Why is there a lock-on button if it's going to have freelook controls? Hunters didn't have a lock-on button. Is it for scanning or what?
You can still lock onto things. Both for scanning and grapple beam, but also in combat. Plenty of enemies will shake the lock off, and in the demo there were large enemies that had one weak point that the lock didn't specifically target, so free-hand combat still has its uses. And should also be much more effective against many small enemies.

I also guess missiles still home in on locked targets, so there's yet another reason.
Dashing? :(

I don't think they do, watch some of the videos from various sources, a lot of time I saw them fire missiles while locking and they missed. If they do home, they don't do it as precisely as they did before.
Missiles never were very precise, though, were they? I know super missiles are. And if they reappear in Corruption (they have to), they should be homing...
It's probably because in Echoes, a bunch of the enemies jumped around a lot. In Prime, well... *insert Jeopardy theme here* :P
As long as it moves fast enough I don't mind it not homing. You just don't want something that doesn't home and is slow.
Well, it's not too slow. It could be worse... and better. :)

Someone mentioned it...but I don't remember where.

I doubt it's gone, though.  You're still able to jump, after all...
Hopefully they'll leave it in. Imagine: You're locked on. You swish the stick sideways and jump. Pwnage.
If anyone finds more pix than the ones in the first post can they update this thread, I really want to see more but havn't found anything else yet...

A pic of the new Ridley would be awesome
Speaking of pics, I just thought of something. What if the new Dark Samus pic ISN'T Dark Samus? What if it's Samus in "Hyper Mode"? :o
lol no way
Dunno where, but I think someone here or on SCU's board said that it indeed IS Hyper Samus.
