Quote from USBCD36:
In school, you can no longer…

•Say the pledge of allegiance, since the atheists are offended by "under god"
•Have a Valentines Day party, since St. Valentine's Day was originally a Christian holiday (though for the most part, no longer)
•Celebrate Halloween, because the celebration is of All Saints Day eve, a Christian holiday (plus, some people don't like the fact it originated from a Pagan celebration)
•Have books assigned if there is a religious or controversial aspect to them (such as the mother of all: the Da Vinci Code, which contains very controversial religious ideas) This one really upsets me because the schools have to filter out all these books, which also eliminates the good ones. Being someone who loves to read, this is a big blow.

Uh, what? Do you even go to school? We, at least around here (Maryland) can do each and every one of those things at school. Though, I actually personally choose not to say the pledge every day.
This is what the school tells us. Probably some schools don't follow it though, since the debates are relatively new (especially the pledge).

Also, do you not say it because you are an atheist?
i'm with trh on that one. if you think seeing a rank and post count next to all your posts on a forum is a right, then you've got something coming to you.

I've gotta stop doing this before I get myself in trouble again…

>.< That's because they're not LAWS. Schools don't have to follow those "rules", because they don't exist! There is also no such thing as separation of church and state, not in the United States Constitution, at least.

I am a devout Christian.

What would that have to do with it? I'm with Ark, I'm a Christian and I don't say it. I just think saying it every day is stupid. I don't have allegiance to my flickerbatting country.
awesome, y'all just changed some of the google ads to pledge of allegiance propaganda. congrats.

I like Jump Rope ads better.

I like nate's comment after my post.
too bad it was so disappointing. i mean, i didn't really expect anything more, but after hearing kip call it eldorado for so long, it had started to rub off on me a little bit.

Likewise. My religious belief is exactly why I do not say it -- I see it as idolatry.

Back to the topic, while you (mods/admins) may not see removing titles as punishment because possession of one is not a right conferred by forum membership, it does register that way because many people are having something they're used to and perhaps enjoy removed through no action of their own, while others keep theirs. If having them is as minor a thing as you imply, then why is it a problem to restore them after seeing the feedback in this thread? If they're a more major problem than that, please explain clearly why it's so detrimental to the forums as a whole that they must go, yet are still fine for mods/admins. Because frankly the "having a title is a perk for the mods/admins" rather rubs one the wrong way. I had no problem with you having the custom titles and felt no deprivation at all for not having one; it was amusing to watch them change now and again. But that statement is a bit much. It almost sounds like a justification for taking things away to make yourselves that much more special -- it's a right for you, but not anyone else. If things had started that way from the outset, with titles always being a byproduct of mod/admin status, then it wouldn't come across as either punishment or self-aggrandizement, but having them removed this far into the game, with no clear reason given, is just uncharacteristically autocratic, especially given that you seem to be somewhat divided on this yourselves. There were polls on what the ranks should be, there were polls on terminology, I think there were others...and this is an absolute, spawned apparently by ONE idiot's actions? You have the right to do it, of course, but please note the effect it has on one's perceptions of the forum structure. This seems an odd thing to be suddenly hardnosed about.

I wasn't particularly attached to my title, but it's the principle of the thing that keeps me arguing here at the risk of sounding like a troublemaker. The general issues of what we may expect from administration and the degree to which we are polarized transcend the specific incident.
wow, you can really express yourself. is this level of clarity always easy for you to achieve, or do you have to wake up on the right side of the bed? i ask because i am anything but a consistently able writer.

as for the ranks, they will soon return, but perhaps not in exactly the same form as they left. the truth is that i saw something about my forum i didn't like and got rid of it -- the reason they were removed is no more complex than that.

(of course, this post may have egged me on a bit, but we usually have few problems with the ranks besides them being stupid.)

I still don't understand the reason for these new mods. Evil or Very Mad
Arkarian said it countless times, it's nate's forum, he can do all the choices he wants for his forum, we all must respect his choices.
in the name of justice!
In addition, nate merely announced the news (in case somebody somehow did not notice) of user ranks/post count display removal in the same thread as the new mods. The new mods are not connected to those other changes.
That level of clarity is achieved by spending WAY too much time writing a single post, especially when I'm supposed to be working. :P As it was, I was really annoyed because I thought of the right way to say that last sentence and then forgot it and had to go with something less concise. Also, it's a filtered sample...if something I'm saying isn't making sense as I'm saying it I usually just abort the post before submission.

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

N65: We get it. You don't like it. You don't understand it, or any of the responses to you which are not to your liking. Can you at least complain intelligently?

You want intelligence?
These. Mods. Suck.
That's all i've got to say. Feel free to disagree or complain.

See, that's not intelligence. Why do they suck? You need to give reasons if you want anything changed. If not, then stop spamming up this thread.

Because I liked the ranks and et the post count. I can't explain it.

Fine. Keep the mods. I don't care.

So, they're not mods. Also, there must be some reason why you don't like them gone. Did you like being a *** Metroid? Did you like keeping track of how many posts you had? Did you think it an achievement when you got to specific post counts?

I guess I liked my rank.

Chanoire (and everyone else): This really is not as big of a deal to the mods/admins as everyone makes it sound. imo Nate was being very brash when he made the sudden decision to remove ranks/post count (and there has been disagreement between some of the administration and him), and it has been talked about a whole lot since. The final solution is coming soon, and we all feel that most users will be fairly happy with the result.

Hope I like the results. If not, I don't care.
