I think we should have the "pick your rank from a list thing", but with neutral, equal ranks. For example, Metroid, Space Pirate, maybe some bosses, and possibly some random ones like Fanboy or Microsoft Hater or something.

Putting equal ranks looks like a good idea like for example alpha splinter, alpha blogg, boost guardian or elite pirate...

SE : It is unfortunately a point of view, since I didn't consider your example as showing equal characters (About that example I can say "Hey boost guardian is the best!" somewhere in that forum, although I wonder if it's really a problem, since I would be spamming (which is the same as all spams, that happen for no real reason) and my post would be against the rules, just speculation.).
To pick my rank on a list looks strange, I consider that we already have our sig, avatar, and location, without mentioning gender, age (Dragonfangs for an example). I wasn't against chosing a "speedrunner" or "artist" rank, but since we cannot control it, it would be the mods and admins' work, which is not what I want.
So no ranks for me, in any way.

That remind sme of a star wars forum i went to a while ago. You can choose your ranks from either light or the dark side.

That's actually an okay idea, but probably not for this forum: being able to pick one set of ranks when you first sign up, then you will stick to those ranks. For example (and this is just an example), you could pick to either have Metroid ranks (like we used to have - Metroid Larva, Aplha, etc.) or Space Pirate ranks (à la SCU). But, like I said, I wouldn't really want that system here. Would be too unnecessary

I think we should go back to the way it was. There really weren't any problems with having post count or ranks, save a few misguided newbies here and there occasionally.

When the new mods started, I only noticed a refresh after the page finished loading. Disconcerting, but no big deal. Now however, the refresh leaves blank message boxes. I can't see any messages. Even as I look at the "topic review" as I post this, I only see:

I can select (but not see the reverse color selection marker) the message body text and copy it. It happens if hit the stop button on my browser before the page finishes loading as well. :(

I was just throwing out ideas. Like, you could have regular enemies for your rank choices, or you could choose from bosses instead, or you could have a bunch of generic ranks, or whatever.

Must be on my end (at least partially) as no one else is reporting similar problems.

When I switch to subsilver, I can see text in the "Topic Review" while posting, but not in the forum. :?

Edit: Solved on this end. Fraps 1.9d + Ballance demo + inept fingers = big problems with my system. As part of recovery I had reinstalled an older version of zone alarm, and chose the free trial of pro version. Reinstalled a newer ZA (freeware version this time). Back to normal (snafu? ;p ).

of course, we could always bring back the old suggestion: custom ranks for everyone!
