yeah, and i think mpff also furthers the sentiment that nintendo doesn't really know what to do with metroid anymore

even though the answer has been the same for 11 years: make a 2d downloadable one for fuck's sake nintendo

I just don't see how they, as a company, are so behind in those ways. At first I thought it was just a Japanese thing, but there's plenty of other companies that do it totally fine. Like hell, FF XIV, the final fantasy MMO, is fantastic and doing a great job at taking influences from western games and companies and using them in their own way. But I feel like Nintendo is so god damn stubborn lol

i think they're still surprised by the internet's popularity

like, seriously haha ... maybe it's because they're such an old school japanese company

The staunchness serves them really well in creating a contrast to more "with the times" companies.  "Innovative" gets thrown around a lot but I think it's more accurate to say that they like what they like whether that aligns with consumer tastes or not.  Bad thing if you like Metroid but I suppose I can at least respect that trait on principle.

i agree, and that's why i still love nintendo

their great games have always outweighed any negatives about them for me

and i also like most of the hardware stuff they do, the wiimote had a lot of cool uses and the gamepad is neat albeit underused

Someone on another forum I visit pointed out that the presence of the Gamepad makes the Wii U a psuedo-portable console for things like long bus or train rides where outlets are provided.  Just keep the console itself in your backpack and use the Gamepad by itself.  I don't know how viable that would actually be but it was still an interesting thought, and if that's also occurred to Nintendo then rumors of the NX being a hybrid portable/home platform make some sense.

i've used it on a plane once heh ... actually worked pretty well for mario bros u

tbob is wrong because TNG and MMX were both amazing.

The only thing I liked about Mega Man X was the music. Everything else about it was a big reminder of how I don't like Mega Man games for the most part.

But yeah Deep Space 9 is the Good Trek, Original + animated series is Fun Trek, everything else is trash or a giant waste of Patrick Stewart's talents.

i should play mega man x ...

Pretty much, Metroid only sells out west even then it's not huge. Other M I guess tried to grow the franchise in Japan and lol.

It's probably great if you like Mega Man, if you do not like Mega Man it is kinda ok until you beat the first set of bosses then, as is tradition, it goes head first into the Mega Man level design shit hole.

Do note that these are the opinions of someone who occasionally loads up The Sims to spend a few hours building houses for nobody to live in so it's possible I am a filthy casual.

Not entirely the same as Classic.  It's a noticeably more "aggressive" game.  Also, I actually found the final gauntlet much better-iterated and paced than in many Classic titles.
red chamber dream
nah i don't really like mega man either for basically the same reason

but mmx looks like it has more movement options than the classic games which might make it better for me
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It does have more movement options, but they don't feel super great to me. Granted Super Nintendo but, meh, I've never been thrilled with the platforming in Mega Man games and X doesn't really do much to fix my problems with it. On the other Hand I really enjoyed the Zero games in the GBA cause you could go fast as fuck and it owned.

I think if you enjoyed the addition of sliding in MM3, dashing in X will similarly enhance your experience, but to a much greater degree.  For me, all the movement did feel really smooth.  Like, among the best I've ever found in a sidescroller.  Just do Chill Penguin's stage first.

yeah MMX was surprisingly good, at least to kid-me who didn't give a fuck about MM up until then
Ta'kaya as "Teyla the Demiphoenix"
Just give this damn thing a chance, guys. You should be grateful that you're getting a new Metroid game at all, particularly one that considers the Prime series as canon.
red chamber dream
i shouldn't be grateful for anything a company makes. mpff does not look like my cup of tea
It might be an OK game that some people will really enjoy, but it's not metroid.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely

I've always said the best parts of Metroid are defending small, confined areas and slowly shooting balls into holes. You guys remember me saying that, right?
red chamber dream
oh man yeah!

that's uh ... that's something
red chamber dream
is that the main mode, or some side mode? or blast ball for all i know
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
That's the main mode, yup.
