It's just as easy to use and flimsy as a normal SNES controller, but has the advantage of the added grip handles for better maneuverability.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
I still hate that damn hole in the middle of the control pad.
Thanks, DominicanZero.  That hole might feel weird, but it's better than the current d-pad I'm using (which is basicly a big, hard to control block).
New comments from Hotarubi, posted here by catnap222:

Q. What controller you use?
A. Normal one attached to Super Nintendo.

Q. What controller settings you use?
A. Y: shot, B: jump, X: item cancel, A: dash. others are normal.
You can see bit in the item get message. (ex. speed booster)

Q. Missile recovery at Crateria Energy Tank is unbelievable!
A. Not so difficult. I always do like this even if I have 5 missiles.
(catnap222' note: I have heard that he always kill green pirates with missile and recover missile from green crab in Brinsta. I don't know why (mabye advantage for time or more damage boosts after that), but this strategy needs that Samus must be full energy at the begining of Brinsta. It seems that he always kill two flying enemies in order to take no damage.)

Q. Damage boost at ceres is amazing!
A. I use falling tile, not steam. So required position is visible.

Q. Why did you stop boost dash at the big Crateria room near WS?
A. I accidentally released L button. So I losed ground surface grip.

Q. Any other sub-hardest part? It seems there are many difficult points like boost mock ball in Lower Norfair, shine spark before gravity suit, boost spacejump and mock ball at Brinsta gate, etc...
A. These are no so difficult.
(catnap222' note: He seems "Super Short Charge" master!)

Q. Please tell the TIPS of shine spark toward WS.
A. Before entering the door, you have to dash so that it add enough speed to the charged beam. Then, auto fire the charged beam in the next room. Wait until the charged beam become out of screen. And it is time to start shine spark. Charged beam is easier than super missile because charged beam has longer width and doesn't lose itself so easily.
Serously, i think this guy is a TAS user for this run :\

Is this all you have to contribute?  We've been seriously discussing this matter in this entire thread.
I got more.

He did some NEAR PERFECT FRAME tricks!
Someone with a TAS, only managed to get 00:35.
Your finger needs to be magic to press the R and L button 60 times per second.
he didn't press them 60 times a second.
I think I'm going to kill the next person who mentions anything about the perfection of L/R pressing, etc.. This isn't even funny anymore, guys. Moreso, this is just moronic.
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
Perfectly pressing L and R 60 times a second will not speed up Samus.

... I'm not going to get killed now, am I? :P
Haha, of course not, I lied. :D

Well, another person doing a TAS got :27.  There's also a 100% TAS done in :39.

Even I could do that.
I guess it might appear someone would be able if they used a turbo controller.  Of course, if they tried to wall jump after that, they might screw up.

Q. How do you hold your controller?
A. Like this:

aiwebs_019
I just took a sleeping pill, and looking at that pictore, it looks like it's moving!

Also, I pity Hotarubi's hands.
Wait, doesn't Scarlet hold the controller just like that?
Heh, thats actually how I hold my controller for certain games where all three of the bottom buttons are used. Of course, I'm sure I don't do it as well as he does.
Maybe he taped the button down.  I've considered that before.  I know its cheating, but I don't know.  Holding the controller like that, which I also have considered before, would be painful every day for months on end.
Hey, I think I like that method of holding the controller.  Currently, I use the side of my index finger to shoot (I use the default control setting), and it doesn't work well.  I'd rather use the side of my index finger for a button that gets held down a lot (run) instead of for a button that sometimes, one must press/tap a lot in very little time (shoot).  This is most imformative.

Ask Scarlet about what happens to your index finger by playing that way =)

And dave, taping the button down wouldn't work, because you have to un-tape it whenever you want to quick charge/short charge.
Oh yeah, duh...  Well it would work for me seeing as I can't quick charge but I don't think I would personally be able to live with myself after breaking my old personal best.

Pause, remove tape, unpause. ;)
Sometimes, there might not be the time even to pause, I would suspect, because the start screen actually comes up a little after pressing start.

@BlueGlass: I'd rather not know.  It might not even affect me all that much, since I'm not trying to get a world record on this game anytime soon.  I should probably heed your warning.  Maybe I will when my finger starts losing feeling.
