Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
FINAL IPS:
http://www.digital-mantra.com/THE%20ONE%20ROOM%20HACK.IPS

It took me a long time but I'm finally satisfied with this hack. Thanks for bearing with all the versions, if you've already played them, this newer edition will mess with you.

*additional items, secrets, puzzles, final message, and continuity pathways have been added.

Known Bugs:
*some items have appearence of others
*ship still looks messed up

This hack is for experienced players, all the tough moves are necessary to proceed.
Thread title:
I tried this and I have to say it is good. You obviously have skills to make something bigger too. This was a nice playing field. Did you put that slo-mo movement in the end yourself or did it just appear? It was pretty cool. Fanfares also.  :)
Stuffs. Yar.
Well, as with any hack, there is the one most important question.
To header, or not to header? (Headered, by the way)

First Impression: Ehh... I'll leave it to the people who thought that SM:I was fun...
Not that it was badly made, mind you... I just don't like the "OMFG ITZ TEH HARD" hacks...

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the design, there was only so much I could do with one room. I have another hack of the same room but I stopped to make this one.

Also,
The last room with the ending them and the eyeballs, well I tried for hours to figure out how to make them flash on you. I wanted to have the spore FX to be like confetti, and have like 6 of those eyes all flashing on you. hahah. Sadly it didn't work out, that room crashed too many times during the attempt.

Does everyone have a sudden fascination with the MOCKBALL or any derivitive of?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Another hack I cant do anything with after a certain item

Why dont everyone just tell me to put myself out of my misery and GIVE UP!

I remember when I couldn't mockball and stuff. It was a real pain in the ass for me. I still will never play a hack where ibj is required. You may not like the mockball but once you understand how to do it, it's as simple as one wall jumping. That would be my guess as to why so many hacks utilize this technique now.
It would be extremely boring if you don´t have to perform any movements or tricks at all. Nowadays these hacks are trying to provide challenges and entertainment and it is not possible without little quirks. Why sweat it that much? If you don´t know the basics, find out how to do them. Playing with an emulator makes it possible to try to perform tricks over and over again until you get them right.

Mockballing is very basic step, I can´t see anything wrong in a hack that requires it. On the other hand some crumble block jumping and treadmills are not my favorites, because they are not challenging, they are just plain annoying, because it is not always up to you if you succeed or not.

I had to try the speedball in this room-hack a couple of times before I got it right, it really was no big deal when I can make a savestate just before trying. I also bumped into cacti a couple of times and even died twice. It is not frustrating to dodge those things, it is just part of the gameplay, just like shinesparking and mockballing. I guess all upcoming hacks will require some skills to do tricks, so it might be better to get used to it.
For some reason, when I patched the rom (JU), when I loaded the game and got past ceres, the first room was a jumble of random blocks, mostly doors. Any suggestions? I've already tried headered/unheadered. The only thing I can thin of it that I'm using the wrong rom.

..WTF? No really what the hell. A hack don't need to be harder. And making a hack hard this way is just stupid if you ask me. If you actually move the rooms around a bit it will be new areas. And since you don't know where things are it will be hard the first time. But if you play it 20 times like super metroid it will be easy. Doing a hack that move the rooms around is harder....but not much and it looks way better. And your basically saying we should use save stat to learn in the tricks. Just  no! Save stat abuse should not be NEEDED even if some people will use it you should not need it.

I do, for people who don't know how to do it, it is hard. And for people who play with a game pad that do not have a control cross. And I think thats the case for LR, Not sure though.

<------------------------------------------------------------------->
This is for all most SM hackers:
I would also like to add that I don't get why people are starting to put up topics like this. I did not play far in this one. But from what I seen it do not move around rooms. And you can still see what room it was. Just take a air tile and use the fill room function in SMILE. It is always a good Idea to start fresh. Because we have a hacking forum now is not a good reason to release crappy hacks. Even though I did this when I was a noob. You don't need to make the same mistake. Try get some one a mate to test it and make sure he will actually give feed back.
And here is a tip: The more rooms you design the better you get at designing them. That is simple fact. You can't except to make your dream hack right from the start. That is not possible, Thats why I am going to have to remake one off my older works.

Sorry that I went a bit off topic... but I needed to say that.  Embarassed

Which item was suppost to come first supers or power bombs?

Edit: Help.
attachment:
Im sure you can get any of them in either order, it is just Supers would require you to shinespark with just the right amount of energy.

Also, this hack was fun.

Lance just said that save-states HELP if you want to train, not they really need to be used to learn a given trick.

Does "Green-Kirby's Super Metroid Hack Topic" ring a bell? You have the right "to put up topics like this" but others don't?

Then you have no right to speak your mind whatsoever.

Define "crappy hacks". There are people who enjoy this hack, pay respect to those and to DMantra, who created this hack.

What if that mate shared the same opinion as you? Getting feedback from more than one person is safer than to trust a single deduction.

Personally I think that the idea of a one room hack is very unique. I even had the same idea some time ago, but really couldn't cram a whole game into a room (Silent Hill: The Room, or whatever it is called). Good job on creating this hack and don't let people disencourage you to create more.

I too had the thought of a [sort of] training room or level.  There wouldn't be any real danger, or if there was you could escape it and recover via a recharge station.  Everything you do in it would require some known 'trick' to get to the next obstacle.  But all "obstacles" could be bypassed if you wanted to skip to an easier/harder one -of your choice.

I hereby waive my rights for ...BY having posted this publicly.  Just in case, since I mentioned it, anyone else would expect me to undertake this venture.  Not. gunna. happen.  :P

Okay, so I decided to give it another whirl and beat it. I'd have to say that
getting the speedbooster

was the most annoying part.

Also, I think I found a different way to enter the "Speedboost from here to get to Super Missiles" tunnel...

I had time to read Kirby´s post but I did not have time to answer it until right now. Kriole covered most of the points already, so I will just add something instead of writing an epic.

Kirby....
Nice to see you value players with enthusiasm to learn tricks and glitches equally to those who like to explore and search for items in a safe environment. Your outburst was the funniest thing in a while. You feel that if there are lots of players who think like me, your graphic-fested hacks will be left alone, because you obviously have not given much thought to the obstacles and other practical things rather than just changing graphics. This is the image I get when reading your post. You think it is stupid to add difficulty by adding a few spikes and some mockballing and speedmockballing and mid-air shinesparks? Well I think it is pretty stupid, or at least useless, to try and make difficulty with different environment. That does not add to entertainment, you just have to look around one time and then it is all familiar and clear.

I am the kind of player who will not touch a hack where you don´t have to walljump, double bomb jump or aim down and shoot to proceed. Well okay those were too easy, but I want my hack to include some other, harder movements as well. Playing SM with the original route is boring as hell for me, I want challenge. Luckily there are numerous hacks that are providing that. Don´t worry, there are lots of other type players too, so your hack should have enough players. The problem is, there are some people who don´t like challenge and they start whining that "this hack is too hard" "I am not supposed to [insert trick here] am I!!??!?" You don´t see me whining in the Golden Dawn thread about why I am frustrated with searching and I don´t know where to go. I just don´t play the hacks I don´t like. Period.

As for using save states, you seem to have a strong opinion. Too bad you express that opinion in a wrong place. Just as Kriole said, I meant that save states can be a tool for practicing. What do you care if people use them or not? I know how they can suck the joy out of playing, that is why I frequently play without any tools. People are smart enough to realize if they abuse save states too much or not, you don´t have to tell them.

Oh this is real mature behavior towards the creator of this hack and topic. Someone else wants to have feedback and show their skills and you start bashing their attempts. How do you justify your own hack topic? It is the same thing, no matter what arguments you are trying to use. Everyone has a right to make a topic and show their work, that is how this community works best and that is how we can share enjoyment. What else crappy hacks have we had in the near past?

If you talk about crappy hacks, you refer your own Ice Metal as crappy, why do you post things about that in your topic? If you want to follow your own guideline, you should post that thing only when it is ready and perfect. Why Saturn did not present SMI 1.5 straight away, why did he have to make the 1.0 first? As Kriole said, it is much better to get feedback from many people rather than just one. Gravy had several suggestions about certain same things, that confirms the points that must be fixed. Other people notice things that some other don´t. Some hacks are crappy when they are in progress, but they might develop into something big. Let´s give others a chance too, shall we?

These are all my opinions, I know you have yours, so don´t bother bickering about those. I simply cannot understand how this topic can agitate you so much. The reason I brought the whole thing up is simply that I am a little fed up with people who cannot play and are not ready to practice but still play these hard hacks too and then they fill these topics with general whining. You are not one of them, so why are you so heated up?

Well, so much for "adding just something"...

Well, that's exactly what happened to me when I tried an unheadered ROM, but you said you've already tried it with a headered ROM, so...
I used a headered (U)

Also, I really do like these new hacks with challenges. It gives me somthing to work for.

I used a headered (JU). It doesn't work eith unheadered. If headered rom doesn't work, try downloading thet headered rom again, or get it from somewhere else, as it might be corrupted. Rember, headered to 3,073 KB, and unheadered is 3,072 KB.

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
Long read. Thanks for your opinions.

I've actually been working on making this hack much longer and harder (and still one room) but it crashed after I messed with the pointers  :(

All in all this was my first hack and I didn't really expect anything from it other than experience in SMILE.
As for my reasons posting it, I just wanted to give experienced players a bit of fun. I really can't describe how fun it is for me to speedball.

And while Green-Kirby has his judgements on this, I'll side with him in the fact that there is a limit to the challenge I enjoy. For instance in SM:Limit I truely hated getting the plazma beam. Other than that, his distaste for my hack is rather silly. My hack isn't overly hard. lol

Edit: How do I play smv files?
Well finally got it to work, The rom I tried to patch was already patched, but I couldn't tell. My bad. Very nice, and quite challenging.

Download the latest version of Snes9x here, then load the rom, go to file->play movie.

Although, if you want a description of what I did... (spoiler'd to be safe)
I just charged my speedbooster on that area above and to the right of the ship (where you get the morph ball), then diagonally shinesparked from the ship itself.

Got it. K, after watching Edward_Tohr's alternate route, I wonder how he got the power bombs.

Is that why CymicX and I had to PM him time and again about things that were broken in Ice Metal?

Erm... I just
did a speed-boost-jump from the end of that platform, then speedball'd through the blocks, then mockballed past the crumble blocks, then did the bomb-jumping thingy past the spikes...

Isn't that how we were supposed to do it? Or if you were referring to my lack of energy, I recharged at the ship after the shinespark.

Of course, an smv is worth a wall of text, so here you go. It includes the beginning bit, too. Oh yes, and there's another glitch that I found, but the movie'll explain for itself.

And spoiling solutions, even vaguely, is bad, so into the tags it goes.
