Ridley!
I know all the needed items. What else would you recommend I get have any of you done it already. I'm trying three Energy Tanks and three Super Missile Expansions. I decided to do Ridley first, but I always lose against him. Should I get more Super Missiles rather than Energy Tanks? What do you think?

MOD EDIT: These 15% topics are getting far too familiar. >_<
Thread title:
This should go in the help topic but there's a trick to beating Ridley without taking damage. Just stay under his feet.

Just shoot the large flames he spits out for more missiles.

Three is probably theoretically the exact amount of super missiles you ever need. Assuming you don't care about speed, you can easily refill your missiles on the apple jacks in Tourian. Also, if you're really having trouble, you might consider, instead of three energy tanks, taking 2 etanks and SA. Makes Tourian loads easier for most people, not to mention the helpfulness against Iron Ted and the rest of the Mother Ship.

After that, once you try 15% hard, I suggest four super missiles. If you have trouble on Iron Ted then, you only have to knock out the glass using regular missiles first then finish him off using the four supers. Obviously one etank is advisable, and the 15th% is probably gonna be the SA again.
I second the Screw Attack being useful. It rips through the o shaped beams, preventing the need to use the ice beam.

To be fair, it's better exercise to skip SA. Kind of like necessity forcing you to learn to play better overall. As a matter of fact, I did the last segment of the 10% hard run until I beat it to get pumped up for a Single Segment any% normal run.
Ridley!
So I can't figure out how you are going to get past the second room you can reach after getting your suit back w/o Screw Attack. I have never made it this far in 15%.

Check the area for hidden missile blocks. In fact, almost every place where Screw Attack is "needed", there is an alternate missile route.
Im thinkin go more super missiles, that's what I'm goign to do when i fix my SP. Wink

Anyway, congrats on taking the 15% challenge. :P
Ridley!
Someday I'll get back to playing the game. Maybe over the summer and stuff.
I've done 15% normal with speed items: 3 Supers, Hi-Jump Ball, Speed Booster and 1 E-tank, heh.
Yea, super missiles are definitley the way to go. Wink

the best way to recharge in tourain is the set of apple jacks spawn that has a door that you came in from on the left, a save station on the top right, and the next room on the bottom right.  This apple jack spawn goes fast and is at an exact height to aim into as you shoot.
If you use screw attack, the best way to recharge is the room before the motherbrain room, where there are like 4 apple jack recharge points that you can screw into. Its actualy better to save a space for screw attack, maybe instead of the high jump. It makes defeating mother brain sooooo much easier. :o

I still say the room right before the Zebetites is better. You get four green rinkas to shoot at (easily 3 standing in one spot). This is especially useful if you have Hello-Jump, as you don't need to sit still until they're in jumping range (since they already are). You have more rinkas on the screen at once, so you don't need to stay there until they regenerate, either. Besides that, you don't even need that many missiles until you reach MB in the first place.

...Although since I think about it, you're talking about a 15% hard run, aren't you? I totally forgot that might become a problem. But I still say the hardest part is BEFORE that room, so it's a moot point.
twenty eight fifty
easiest way: three supers, screw attack, hijump, one energy tank

fastest way: three supers, speed booster, hijump, missile

Missile? Really? Not that an extra Super Missile is gonna be a good idea, since that means Kraid might take quite a bit longer...but I guess you have a point. That's probably the most USEFUL items to get quickly.

Although I contest that an Energy tank in a speed run may help against Ridley, and makes Tourian quite a bit easier...but then again, having that extra missile tank is probably gonna make the metroids faster so it's a moot point. It's looking like sub-35 15% normal is possible. Maybe even sub-32 for the super-elite. Though actually getting that third super missile using the latest speed trick is a real tough one.
I still can't see the point for doing 15% run. You could always do a 9% run so why add 6 extra items there?

It's like ZM low% run for the losers.
Speedrunner
Yeah 15% =Any-% run  Wink

But anyway 9% is pretty hard first time, it is good reason practice 15% run before real challenge.
What's the hard part? You use saves you can try a segment as many times as you want to and save often.

Then again, 9% running for ultimate speed is hard. Any moron could do 9% run with a crappy clear time.
Speedrunner
9% normal is pretty hard run first time, i remember i working long time my first completion. There is two hard encounter, i think Mother brain and Mecha Ridley get many attempt first time.

Well all zero low-% challenges is overall pretty easy beat expect that 9% Hard PAL and only real insane hard part there is 4 barriers/zebetite.

That's settled then. Since you stated it's overall easy to beat...

...I'll be waiting for 9% SS time from you, Master. ;)
Speedrunner
I trying 9% SS run many times almost year ago, but always i miss my run, something easy mistakes. Right now my ZM low-% skills are pretty rusty, i beat my latest low-% run couple months ago.

9% nomal SS is real pain, it is luck time because mecha ridley attack randomly attacks and it is last fight in the game.

But well i wait you 9% segmented run, you are hard man too.
Well I don't consider myself a good player in ZM, I just work on my runs a lot. (except the first 2 any%, those were kinda starters)

I have exactly 1 week to complete my Fusion and ZM runs. Luckily I'm pretty much at the end of my Fusion run and Chozodia segments are done fast in ZM. I gotta play one more segment today, tomorrow or the day after that finish my Fusion run and next week play ZM run through. I'm having some problems with Tourian though... :(

You ask why 1 week only? That's when my friend takes his GBA SP away. It's not mine.

The hard part in Minimal Percent Normal runs: Iron Ted. The hard part in Minimal Percent Hard runs: the first half of Tourian. More than enough to break an SP. Just ask AJ. He even ended up burning his oatmeal.
Speedrunner
First metroid part is easy place on low-% hard if you save your game after everysingle metroid room.

But that is really hard speedrunning, all metroids room wihout backtrack save. I doing that my current run and it took 2 hours beat metroid first half all rooms all in the one go, without backtrack save.

But if you don,t try speedrun, that is easy place IMO.
