You forgot Power Grip in your powerup list :P.

That's partially my fault, I left it out in the fastest times topic when he asked about the required items for 15%.

I just remembered that and it kept me from getting to sleep... :|

I can't remember if Supers are optional or if the free Varia you get with the fully powered suit doesn't count as a percent. I'm leaning towards the former, though.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Supers are optional (most old 10% hard runs would get two missile packs instead of a missile and a super missile) and the free Varia you get with the new suit counts as a %.

I'm dropping Screw Attack for sure (mostly on the pirate skit, it won't save me from getting shot), but I can just drop a Super Missile for the Hi-Jump. Just the Charge/Long Beam decision is my problem.

Edit: Dragonfangs, you're right. Even Iron Ted is resistant to the Charge Beam. Why wouldn't it be a lifesaver like in Fusion?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It would likely be best to just skip Hi-Jump it really won't be particularly helpful compared to the extra Super Missiles, and if you don't get Charge then get SA, it may not make you invincible, but it still one shots enemies and is pretty nice to have in the Pirate ship.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I remember reading somewhere that skipping Hello requires being an expert wall/bomb jumper for the Tourian escape. I know when I did it, it was hell, but I also did not have Power Grip.

How could you not have Power Grip? The game forces you to get it.

It was from playtesting Zero Rush.

If you have Power Grip it's still easy, there are plenty of platforms you can reach with a regular jump or a wall jump. I don't know where bomb jumping would come in if you have the Speed Booster.

I'm a good walljumper, even one-wall. Does that help a lot?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yes, when skipping Hi Jump good wall jumping ability is quite helpful.
It's also needed to skip the brinstar e-tank.

I don't know why I can't skip that E-Tank, but I can use that to one-wall up a shaft (that was two tiles wide, and there was a missile tank on the right, in the Norfair East Side Main Street)
Try doing a double tap of A while sliding your finger to the right side, then left side, then right side of the d-pad. That's what I've always done on the GBA, though it's easier on an emulator.

It's actually possible to stand on that platform without collecting the energy tank, then you just jump over it
Yeah, but I find that harder. And wallkicking is better for speed, as you can jump onto it, and wall kick off, but the other way you have to jump straight up.

Nope, you can do it with a spin jump; and it's faster if you can perform it without any delays. Otherwise the wall-jump would be faster
What I'm saying is, you can't spin jump a second time, once you land.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Sure you can, hell it would be easier to do a spin jump
Oh, I'll try that next time.

Well, after going through the entire run again (currently doing as much as I can on Hard Mode 15%, though I've avoided grabbing anything unecessary, those hives be damned (and alive) as they are, particularly that M-tank one in the corner), I would like to ask here:  Just why is Power Grip mandatory?  Off the side of my head, the-- oh, is that it?  Is the room leading to PG locked until you grab it?  Well damn, if that's not lame.  Wait, if you don't goto get PG, then you shouldn't need to go through Chozodia other than to grab Plasma and escape Tourian, right?  So,what's necessary about it that bomb jumping -- particularly the oh-so-impressive-to-watch HBJ -- can't work around?

Oh,on the subject of necessities, in regards to SDA, the blurb about M:ZM mentions that 10% Hard is less than 9% Normal due to the Missile discrepancy, but how does a 10% Hard using a Super Missile, which, while less in number, is more in effect, supercedes a 9% Normal off of the site?  I mean, if you have four Missiles whereas Normal would have five, that's the only thing that differs in amount (everything else is a function upgrade rather than ammo boost), so while it's one more hit as compared to an EU version Hard low%, it's still less in the only less-able area than Normal low%.  Eh, just a peeve...

Looking back at previous posts, one specifically, my typos make me feel bad... How many are in this one, 'specially with typing on the laptop (which gave me flack for typing in my numerical password)?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To answer your question regarding Power Grip (and also, really, Plasma Beam), I got a screenshot of just why you have to go all the way up through Crateria.

That guy is invincible and doesn't leave until you get PG.

Ahh... Was wondering why that thing wasn't around when I was running about in there, though on some other file, definitely gone, now, I remember going back to mite it, or one of them, to death.  Pretty sure I had PG then, though... Is it that if you encounter it before getting PG, it'll stay there, but avoiding that area beforehand will make it never show up?  Nevermind, didn't take in the backround as I should've, not the one I was thinking of (or that I think I'm thinking of).
I'm trying a 15% hard run but I have forgoten how to get screwattack befor you get speed, and varia... I know the sick diagonal bomb jump way (witch I can't do tryed it for houers and eaven harder when I'm dying att the same time) but if I don't remember totaly wrong ther is another way to get it but can't figur it out...
One shall stand, one shall ball.
The bomb jump method is the only one I'm aware of, it is a lot easier to just get the Varia Suit first since you can't skip it anyway, after that you just have to practice bomb jumps.
Speedrunner
Actually as far as remember there are other way too. This requires at least speedboosters. There are one morph ball cannon in the ground after you getout in Ridley lair to Norfair. As far as i remember you can pick up screw attack without bomb jump route. But im not 100% sure about this.

But you not really need pick up screw attack. You can pick up more other items. Like fire power (SM & M expansions). If you have trouble make bomb jump, speedbooster is good idea when you need escape in tourian.

Oh and varia suit in Brinstar always help, this not increase your %. You can always pick up that early, without worry your %.
