Ugh, that's not even the intended trick.  Just about everyone likes to make it harder for themselves.

I found a blue door near the beginning of the maze with pink horizontal pipes / vertical dark blue ones.  This door leads to a water room with 4 boulders near the top.  I don't see a way through this, unless I need to go somewhere else.

I will mention; I got all the gates(?) opened in that one Pink Pirate room (with the shallow water) except the 2nd one (I think).  Well, as far as the screen scrolls I can only see 3 gates.

Edit:  Wait a sec...

The boulders....  & the grapple trick?  That must be it.

Edit2:  I'm still not sure where to go.

Edit3: The Gravity suit if good for jumping out of acid. ;)

Edit4:  Stupid green gate. >:-(

E5:  Should've known.

Edit6: Okay.  Much later.  I think there's a problem.  Confused

This boss...  He's stuck!

You're going to have to elaborate on that one.  It doesn't sound like something I know how to fix.  Did you do something special to make him freeze or was it just in some movement routine?

Gaius_4: 2008-11-11 02:17:01 am
I went back to fight him, he did his "routine" with the figure 8 swooping and disappearing.  Then after he came out to rain down his blue fire....  That's where he stops.  I fired a charged ice-beam shot at him and that didn't have any effect.  So, I morphed and bombed him several times.  That's where he closes his eye, fades out... And I guess pretends he's invisible. Razz

Edit:  I'll attach an smv.  For use with snes9x v1.43 + v15.3.
That's frustrating, yet another enemy that had it's vulnerabilities changed for some weird reason.  His ice beam vulnerabilities were set to FF, they aren't set to that by default and I definitely didn't change them to that... anyways, I'm pretty sure that's why he's bugging out.

I see v. 7 is up.  Looks like he's doing like he should.

I guess I'm beta testing. Razz

Wow.

Of course I'm not supposed to short charge over a 6 or 7 block area.

I guess it's all in the timing and angle of the jump.  Or using the machball somehow.

Is this the end for Gaius_4?

edit:  Nope.  Finished.  Didn't qualify anyway.

Edit3: This was a very good hack!

Edit4: I can get up to 46%.  I'm betting I'm 1 or 2 items away from 50%. Think

You're looking for a door release above the big maze.  Go through a room that has you grappling on the ceiling.

I still don't understand where to go to get
springball
I have been in the room with the boulders but can't get past them.  I have been all over the maridia-like area and explored every inch of the big maze room but can't find any door releases other than the one after beating
Botwoon

Edit:  I found a way past the boulders so now I am unstuck, although I still don't think I found the room you reference.  I found Ridley.  I also found plasma but can't get it.  I think I know how but there just doesn't seem to be quite enough room to get a charge.  Man would I like to snag that plasma.

Do I have to enter the room and charge at the very end of the ledge, sparking horizontally just before the red ki-hunter gets me?  That's the only way I could see that one would do it, but I can't get the charge in that amount of space.

Edit2:  Got plasma.
Go to the room above the maze and take the upper right door, you'll be in a room full of water.  Take the lower right door here (there is a super missile pack) and search thoroughly.
There's a shotblock in the floor to the left of the super missile pack.  The door released is at the top of the large room partly filled with water with green pipes
BTW, even though this hack is hard and probably a little beyond my normal skill level, I'm finding it incredibly addictive, and each challenge makes me want to keep trying.  That's a testament to good hackmaking.  The closest I've probably come to giving up was Golden Torizo, but with savestates I managed.

I agree.  Well, maybe not incredibly addictive.  But I want to keep retrying it to get better.  Go for that 50%.

At the top left of the room that is outside of where Gravity Suit is...

There appears to be a super-missile door.  But I'm thinking it's inaccessible.  Just curious...  Is there anything up there?  You don't have to say what.
Nothing there, just didn't put it out of sight I guess.  It was hastily moved once I realized someone could get stuck in that room too easily.
Xaggoth, I feel dumb, but I just don't feel like were on the same page.  If we're thinking of the same room as the maze, the only room "above" the maze is the room with pink pirates.  The only door out of that room leads to a non-water room with mochtroids and a room that takes you back to the room with water and the tower type things that you have to jump over, which takes you back to the big room with the grey door I can't figure out how to open in the first place.  I am just completely missing something in the engineering area.

FWIW, I've killed Ridley and Phantoon.  Springball and Space jump are the only powerups I'm missing.  Never found spazer either, but it doesn't matter since I have plasma now.

Haw, you're totally right.  I wasn't thinking carefully enough.  The room with the mochtroids was the room I was trying to direct you to.  In that room you go in the upper right door, and in the next room that is fully underwater, the lower right door.

You aren't going to find spacejump, I think it's a pretty lame item.  I'm hoping you were playing an outdated version to be able to get to plasma without springball.

DonnyDonovan: 2008-11-21 10:46:45 pm
Nope.  I'm playing V7.  Once I got grav, I haven't needed springball once.

Edit:  Finished it.  I really liked this hack, and nothing in it was THAT hard, although I am incredibly bad at mid-air shinesparks, and I did have to look up the "easy" way of doing the escape trick (which only took me a few tries once I did so).  My only gripes have already been brought up, mainly the amount of backtracking.  I thought the atmosphere was just great.

Also, I'm pretty sure springball is optional as the game currently stands.  I don't think I ever needed it.
Im not sure if im the first person to point this out. If you watch the gamplay intro after the title screen you can actually play in the debug area, as in actually take control of Samus while its still in the intro mode. Weird

Actually, I think I pointed that out but if I did, the post was deleted.  There's actually a few hacks weird like that....  grin new

Watch the intro demos for something cool

It was intentional.  I heard it's because samus takes a door transition during the demo.  It would have been a bad thing to leave the demo putting you somewhere you aren't supposed to be, though I would be curious to see where the alternate demo video takes you...
Could someone send me a PM saying what the "easy" trick is to the escape?  Reply here first if you send it (so nobody else does too).  Thanks.  Embarassed
I'll post it here too I suppose.  I forget if it's somewhere in the last few pages or not.
I think there are three ways to get past the two sets of speedbooster blocks.  1) speedspringball 2) shortcharge inside them 3) bring in a shinecharge and shine up.

An old problem was corrupt data on the pirates making them unkillable, making this pretty impossible.  Starting from right in front of the first speedbooster blocks do a quick charge running to the right and crouch.  Quickly turn around and do another quick charge but spinjump to break through the first blocks.  All that's left is shining up through the last blocks, you might want to cancel the spinjump with R since you'll be running out of shinecharge time.
OK I'm stuck.    I think the last thing I got was supers.
I have:

30 missiles
10 supers
high jump
wave
ice
grapple
You want to explore the larger water room more, the one next to where you found wave beam, super missiles, and the enemy refill room.
Forgot to mention that I have spazer already.  Found varia while the server was down, but not sure where to go next.  Im thinking I should be finding speed booster soon.  Hints ?

(awesome hack btw, I love how you changed the shade of blue on ice)
Go ahead. Stare.
Go where Xaggoth said to. It should lead to his "Norfair." (I forget which deck number it is.) I'm currently there right now and found a boss I am disgusted with.

EDIT: No Speed Booster yet, maybe after this boss...
