I highly disbelieve that statement you quoted really came from one of Capcom's head-gamedevelopers. And even if, there's certainly no guarantee that the person really meant what he/she said.

I don't know where you found that quote, but it's most likely just a marketing statement, and should hardly being taken serious. There was just no serious point to lol at it.

I can show you an interview video, if I feel fun to search for it again. A person who says "lol" at something must take it very serious, you know.

Your "lol" made it seem like you where looking down on them, like "haha is if you were that". That would have been just stupid, because, as I said, it probably wasn't what the peron really thought. After all, they can't just say "our game designers ain't that good I guess" in a public interview.

But sorry if I got you wrong.

It is a long "tradition" that many japanese people claim they are the best, and not only in some martial arts. I think this attitude is "wrong" athough I respect some japanese game developers.
Quote from J-SNAKE:
The game-designers of RE5 have to learn from RE4's mistakes, but judging by the videos they clearly dont do. One example:

When your enemy is running towards you, he will always stop several meters away from you and change to the walk mode. This applies to all of them.

Huh? how is this a mistake? That is RE style. If you want a pure FPS play something else.
This doesn't even apply to all zombies (gandos w/e who cares). Just play the mercenaries missions castle or water area for an example.

By the way they don't just change to walk mode. They switch back and forth between walk and run somewhat randomly once they are in 5-10 yards of you.

I agree with you on this point - lol @ japanese 360 sections - but that doesn't mean that RE5 is going to suck.

Common, that cant be that hard to get what I am talking about. Whenever one of the evil residents is running towards me to catch me he will always stop several meters away and change to walking. That steal something of the awesomness and heat of a battle since I can always predict it.

Only Japanese people do this, no one else.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Oh look, J-SNAKE knows how to make a game a million times better. What a suprise.

None of the bosses give you aim time and neither do dogs or chainsaw zombies. When you have 20 zombies on you that small bit of aiming time is still hardly enough - see mercenaries.

I'm willing to negotiate with you though because the RE5 demo still has you standing perfectly still to shoot and that is something I really wish they took from Dead Space (very slow walking when aiming but still walking).

probably 3 times better, depends on the game. Metroid 100 times better since I was born in Japan.
(and the retarded SM-controls million times better, if you want to hear a humble personal opinion)
But I will only claim something is the best solution when it is mathematically proovable. (For example some issues with the SM-controls are fact. Personally I think someone must be blind and freaked when he says they are good since in fact they are very inconsistent, what could be avoided when the developpers would know games like contra). That is why I still have asked for ideas because potentially more heads can bring up more ideas. If I would know everything best I would not come here. Thats the difference, and it seems sooner or later I will leave this forum since the level of interest and discussion seems not to be suitable for me, I studied enough here already to keep this impression.
I will only come to present you some results of my work.

Quote from Ntsc:

You can solve it through cool new button-press-interactions in the right moment while he is running towards you or the enemy could take more damage while running near you, problem solved, it would not get too diffiucult but it would get more fun and kickass right there. I already explained it. It is boring to watch an evil resident running to you when you already know he will stop and change to the walk mode several feets away. The enemy must be consequent and not repeat over and over an action what takes the scare off from you.
My philosophy here is: adapt the difficulty to the game-concept but not adapting the game-concept to the difficulty, there is a significant difference once you made a virtual experiment and imagined the cool example with the running enemy.

j-snake: please keep your "i want to revolutionize gaming" ideas out of this topic. this is a game i actually care to discuss, and i'd rather not do so with all your yammering permeating the thread.

You can make Metroid 100 times better... because you were born in Japan?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Okay, yes, please leave the forum now. Nothing you can ever say will ever top that. This is your opus, J-SNAKE, definately.

Hey guys, I totally have some killer ideas for NHL '10. Let's make all the players constantly on fire and give the goalies huge boners. This will make the game like seventy jillion times better BECAUSE I AM FROM CANADA.

....

Okay, back to RE5. Gooo zombies!

I never claimed that. You have to read between the lines.

Also I would give the player the opportunity to adjust the third person camera-angle manually to his preferences or even allow to change to first person mode, if more view is required. What do you think about that?

(is that off-topic? if so, then I will leave)

yes, any post where you suggest how to fix the game is off-topic. go do that somewhere else.
Anyway...

For those who are wondering RE5 will be out on March 13th for PS3, 360, and PC. The wikipedia article says both PAL and NTSC will be released same day but I can't find any sources for that.

A few people have said to me that the demo is just a translated version of the Demo @ TGS08 with cutscenes added. I'm hoping they are right and the development team has refined the Inventory and Splitscreen a bit more.
Played online co-op with a friend of mine yesterday (had to use my cell phone to talk, buying a bluetooth headset today or tomorrow). Shanty Town is intense. We both completely ran out of bullets after using the explosive barrels. Ended up killing the chainsaw zombie with my last grenade.

This game will be good single player but just amazing with co-op. You really feel like there is hardly enough ammo and have to constantly communicate and trade. I'm really hoping that you can play the entire game your first time this way and not be forced just to play like a single chapter but only after you've defeated it in single player.

Just FYI messed around with the menu more and it isn't actually as bad as the first time I played. Hold Triangle to view, use left stick to navigate, hit X to select, then use menu that pops up to do what you want (trade / equip / discard / combine).

Quote from wikipedia:
In an interview with XBOX360ISM, Keiji Inafune stated that the game will feature some online elements. Resident Evil 5's main story mode can be played with two players, in a co-operative online mode. The feature will allow players to enter or leave anytime during the game. Players will not always stick together, and can be separated at points during the gameplay.

doesn't sound like it's something that will need to be unlocked.

i'm more excited about the next paragraph, though:

Quote from wikipedia:
Trailers at Tokyo Game Show 2008, revealed an "offline co-op mode." This mode delivers the same co-op experience as offered by the online co-op mode, only with two local players controlling the action in split screen.

my spring break starts 13 march, as does my cousin's. we're both huge fans of re4, so we're going to have a lot of fun that week. ;)
Yeah I had a picture of that in the very first post.

It is extremely hard to read ammo etc on my 36" sdtv (not widescreen). Vertical Split (side by side) would probably be the best for RE but Horizontal works to.

I can make maple syrup better than you because I was born in Canada.

But really, that doesn't make sense, while being hilarious at the same time.

If I could quote this and sig this, I would.

But to get back on topic, I didn't find the ammo thing to much to worry about, I could see it fine... but maybe you don't have the brightness high enough or something? Or dark enough? Mine's an SDTV, and I think it's the same size as yours.

I could see the ammo just fine in Single player but in co-op split screen it was just tiny (note that there are 2 ammo displays, one whats in the gun, the other is for what you have to reload with). Barely could read mine when paired with a light background, definitely could not read my partner's on my side.

(finally) got my hard drive today, so i just finished the demo. if the entire game is like this, it could easily top re4.

controls were fantastic once i got used to them—type c + fastest aiming speed ftw—but keep in mind that i actually liked re4's setup. it really makes you take your time and plan things out.
strafing is pretty cool, though i didn't use it much, as it's really slow. i can see it being useful for side-stepping through doorways and such. everything somehow feels faster than re4, even though the basics are the same.
thought i'd have problems with aiming since i don't play many shooters, and the only version of re4 i've played is wii, but i actually had no difficulty getting headshots. maybe i've played enough shooters recently that it's gotten easy.

ammo balance seems really well done. whenever it felt like i had more than i needed, another wave of zombies came, and i ended up using most of it. in turn, the difficulty seems pretty good too; since difficulty in a resident evil game is inversely proportional to how much ammo you have.

really impressed with how well the partner system is implemented; it's much better than i was expecting. sheva never gets in your way, and even when you're behind her you can shoot zombies in front of yall without hitting the back of her head— i guess because chris is taller than she is. having to share ammo is pretty cool, and i was glad to see that sheva actually does helpful things like pick up gold for you.

also like how large the areas are; the paths you can take definitely feel less linear.

graphics are awesome; sound is awesome; this is going to be one of the best games of 2009. possibly one of the best games ever. especially due to split-screen co-op (can't wait for spring break !)

Ah, I haven't tried split-screen yet. I don't have 2 360 controllers, so I can't tell. But I would imagine it would be pretty bad.
直死の魔眼使い
Played offline co-op demo on a friend's console a few days ago. Shit was intense, more so than most of the games of this genre I've played. Horizontal split screen looks fine on a 25-inch TV. Got owned HARD by the guy with the huge axe first, and then the chainsaw guy next. Ended up picking to play as Sheva, if only to be nimbler and more agile to get my partner out of tight spots.

I want this so bad.

me, too. and you can bet i'll be playing as sheva as well.
