It is great to have Saturn back. I hope he is now full of energy to start doing some magic again  =)

P.JMan, that version looks a lot more polished and apparently the etecoon tank was not the only one forgotten (that missile pack in LN too). Cant wait to see how you will handle Ridley with that arsenal of yours.

Sorry, had to take the 1000th post for this topic. I guess about fifth of all posts in this topic are made by me  grin new
I like Big Butts and I can not lie

Well, I just simply though I didn't have the energy

Have to do the elite pirates 1st D:
Almost happy
BTW what's the deal with samus "skating" down the big diagonal room before LN? Never seen this before.
You have not? I get this glitch almost half the time in normal SM when getting the speed booster and heading uphill. Maybe it is related to the frame the shine begins? Anyway, it really does look very nice, and funny.

I don't know, but it always happenes to me. And when I get to the bottom of that slope, I lose speed running status. That's why I done a mochball
I see much has happened here since I left.

First, congratulations on completion, Swilo. It's cool to see a guy from SA here. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed playing it. :)

And wow, X-Ray scope got discovered. This is a highlight I didn't expect to happen so soon. Really well done P.JMan. How did you found that location btw, by pure accident, or by some special searching-strategy? Would be interesting to know.

Also it's now clear that the "requires to beat all bosses to get X-Ray" statement isn't 100% true. The thing is, when I first posted it, I didn't thought it's possible to do a CF there in time (while being suitless), without being killed by the raising azid combined with the heat. In fact, I didn't even test it, but just guessed. When I realized it is, I just couldn't change that statement anymore, since the inconsistency of it would give away too many hints, so I had to stick with it to avoid that. Sorry.

Finally I very much looking forward to see your TAS attempt, Tonski. I watched your last WIP, and it looks great so far, especially the Torizo and Spore Spawn fights. I also liked your strategy to pass the gauntlet pretty quickly. Can't wait to see more progress on this, especially because it would solve the question whether a sub hour run is possible or not. I think it would be very close in any case, so let's see if you can succeed. :)

One note to the any% route though: Even though most people suggest to get early Space Jump, I personally think it would be faster to skip it until you get Plasma. Reason is that the additional Super Missile required for it in WS will cost around a minute to get due to the slow walking of the Guardian. I would try to skip this Super Missile Pack completely. Even if it would take slightly more time to kill the next bosses without it, I think it would still be faster at the end.

Also a very interesting 100% test run you do P.JMan. Nice strategies you show there. Looking forward how you will finish Ridley and the rest of the run. The route you took seems pretty good so far.

Would it be possible to get both of the missile tanks in gauntlet at the same time?

Your attempt was a great idea for me to try it myself, and guess what...
It's indeed possible with pretty good optimization!!

Although it probably is only possible in TAS, this will be a great shortcut in a 100% run. Here the smv:
I recently started playing a run of this game, and I am in the room before the elevator down to Maridia.  If I try to go onwards or backwards, the game pauses and freezes, and I can't head anywhere.  Everything is dead, so I can't kill myself, and I have one state in this room because of that annoying jump.  Is this a common glitch?  Help.

...pauses and freezes and the reason you can't kill yourself is because the enemies are dead? O_o

I see no reason you can't go back, but there is a hidden tunnel to continue ahead. I missed it the first time I had gone there, but I'm pretty certain I didn't reset in order to go back.

Also, suicide isn't a very bright choice if it's impossible. There are more than one methods to get back to your last save.

o_O

Embarassed

Guess I was a little sloppy, didn't spend much time on it though...
Well I thought I got pretty close (not in that smv of mine though) when attempting that, but I assume the word "close" is different for a TASer and not-TASer  :)

I always try something first and then record some sloppier attempt. Not a wise choice I guess.... but who cares when it succeeded!

Anyway, you are tha machine, Saturn! So great to have you back!

Also, didnt we agree to put only the first 100% item collection on display and then share some "recognition" for finders of those "hard items"? (not that it really matters, just my vague memorizing... PJMan rules anyway) It wouldnt make much sense now to claim the 100% since every item has been spoiled here.
WOW PJMAN; I know it's late, but congratulations on finding the X-Ray Scope. I NEVER would have looked there.

Now the hint (you can only get it AFTER defeating Ridley) makes sense.

Yeah, I actually thought to write your suggestion to only mention the first discoverer of a particular item in the list, since a additional 100% completion one indeed doesn't make much sense.

Instead I think it would be best to just mention the 100% in ()s after the players name in the normal completion list for those who got it.

So in order to avoid mistakes, we should discuss the discoverer list first. Here are the most noteworthy/hard to find items other than X-Ray and Tube Missile both discovered by P.JMan. I don't remember the discoverer for this items to 100%, so if you are one, please remind me on it.

In no order:

- Kraid Missile:
- Gauntlet E-Tank:
- Pre-WS Water Missile
- Pre-WS Sky Missile
- Green Brinstar Hideout E-Tank
- Ex Charge Beam area entrance
- WS E-tank
- Maridia Snail Missiles (the intended way)

Thats all I can think so far. Tell me if you think I missed another hard to find item.

Once we get the discoverer of this items together, it will be listed in the main post.
I discovered the grapple trick to get Kraid missile, gauntlet e-tank, and the original SM grapple place missile.

I dont know who got the WS e-tank first, but my guess would be ICheatAtGolf

Etecoon e-tank was probably BlueGlass.

Maridia snail missiles intended entrance: probably Rothlenar

Tell me if I am wrong here, just remembering by intuition.

I guess some of those missiles were found by everyone on their own.

Also, why dont I get any kudos for "cheating" the maridia snail super missiles (well, BlueGlass did so too in the early version if I remember correctly)  :D    J/K

Oh, and Foxhound, who needs to kill Ridley anyway before x-ray.

X-ray spoiler:
No, I have made it to both doors, and if I go through them, the game freezes.  I am saved in this room (after the larva things healed me, I went one room forward and decided to save), and my last real save for some reason isn't there.  So, if I can't fix this, I have to restart, which would suck.[/img]

Oh, I get the picture.

That sounds strange indeed. Could it be something in your system, or maybe the ROM is bad or something, causing deleted saves and freezing? O_o I suggest saving the savestate file and getting another ROM. If that's no good, I have no idea. :^\
Waaaaaaa i want insanity
PJman thank you so much for the x-ray.
anyway.
99% still the bloody tube missles.
What was the intended way?

Omg sorry pj i was thinking way too fast.

Any time, buddy! :^D

And I think someone posted a spoiler to the Brinstar Tube missiles on the previous page. I'm not entirely sure.

Agh, I can't accept the credit. I'm not the one that gave you X-Ray, I admit it! I'M A SHAM! ;_;

Here's the tube missiles. Here's X-ray

Both found originally by me \:D/

After watching PJMans performance in Maridia just before Draygon, I have to agree that speed-wise it might not be smart. I thought getting the WS super missile would take even longer than a minute, not to talk about ammo management.... Also killing the beetoms do take some time, no matter how well performed. The time saved is very minimal compared to losses since you can get the Plasma beam right after Draygon (and spring ball of course) anyway.

Maybe something like this?
Draygon -> Spring Ball -> Plasma -> exit Maridia immediately -> Space Jump
Pretty much the intended way, except exit Maridia rigth after Plasma and never return in a power suit. =)

Does 1-wall underwater walljumping save a lot of time when obtaining the Plasma? I would think so, but it is hard to compare since I have not proved the true (TAS) speed of that kind of walljumping yet.

What might be the minimum amount of e-tanks to survive the Speed Booster heat run? Now THAT will be interesting to see.
Every Bit Counts
Is there a vid (not an smv, for I can't download them for some reason, but like a youtube vid) of 1-wall underwater wall jumping without gravity? I would love to see one.
well, here is some quite old stuff. I dont know if it is "sloppy" or not, but anyway...

Well, I replayed my game and made it past that point.  I would still be careful around that room, by the off chance it glitches again.  An awesome hack, none the less.  By the way, what is the low% of this game, or has nobody figured it out yet?  That would be a true challenge.
Does anyone have an idea why smv files never seem to work right for me? I tried playing the video that Lance posted, and this is what happens:

It starts in the room in Norfair with the falling boulders and the heads spitting fire at you... Everything seems noral until Samus gets near the top, at which point she jsut keeps jumping into the left wall over and over again.

This is typical behavior for pretty much every one I've tried to play..
Well, what emulator do you use? I record my smvs with snes9x 1.43 improvement 7. Though they should usually work in improvement 6 and 9 too (no I dont have any facts about that, correct me if I am horribly wrong). I think the emulator puts the sync settings automatically, but in my playthrough it uses
- Use WIP1 Timing
- Allow Left+Right / Up+Down
- Fake Mute desync workaround

Other thing might be the rom you have patched. Is your rom originally named Super Metroid (JU).smc ? My rom is. I can play for example PJMans, Tonskis and Saturns smv files usually allright with my rom, so when you find the correct one, you should be able to play just about every smv posted here.

I hope this helps any. Well, we will always have youtube.  =)
