Yep.  Not only am I pessimistic, i have loads of free time  Twisted Evil
Quote from PessimistByNature:
Hello everybody!  Sorry I'm late, per usual, no one tells me these things :D

Let's get this part out of the way.  Shocked

Anyway, I have a feeling that I'm not going to like this much at all.  Not to say anyting against it that is,  it's just I normally don't like primarily multiplayer games.  Also, I highly doubt this will hit the market.  To me at least, it's not only screaming technical demonstration,  it's holding a big huge sign above it's head saying the same thing.  Not to say anything against this acomplishment.  I applaud whoever programmed this, it sounds incredibly well done for handheld.  Also, even if it does make it on the market, I doubt it will do well.  Sure, 16-player multiplayer does sound as if it would sound incredibly attractive if I liked multiplayer.  However, the question is, where are you going to find 16 friends to play with?  'Round these parts, I am viewed as something of an oddity, on par with people who do not like rap.  I had trouble enough finding people to play the four swords with  :(  And if it somehow sells a large amount, I have a feeling 2D metroids will be a thing of the past.  If they can do it once, what's stopping them from doing it again and again, sucking money from the 2D projects?  Let's face it, the Metroid Prime generated rather a bit more income than Metroid:  Zero Mission.  And Nintendo, is, above all other things, a company.

In summary, I am characteristically pessimistic. Wink

I disagree with the majority of these things ^_^

first and foremost:
get more friends.
likewise, the DS has wi-fi, which means those 16 people don't even have to be on the same hemisphere as you  Wink
Tech demo? sure, but thats far more than the PSP had playable.. They needed to prove the system worked, and that it does.  The major gameplay things are going to start being in overdrive till system launch.

Bout the 2d comment:
Nintendo is one of the few companies that has never abandoned the 2d roots.  Metroid prime has 2d elements, as will prime 2.  Likewise, they continue to release 2d Zelda games, even after the series has been 3d and far more successful that way for quite a while.  (Hell, they even released a 2d zelda game on the cube!)
Likewise, they have 2 new mario 2d games coming out this year, (Mario and donkey kong, Super Mario Bros DS)
Whoa.  How come no one told me it was wi-fi and not standard wireless?  Also , I didn't know there were more 2D Mario's coming out.  How come no one tells me these things >.<

Anyway, though that news was good, I'm still slightly pessimistic.  Yes, I know that Nintendo releases a lot of 2d games.  However, most of them are remakes of older games.  Sure, I know, there are exceptions.  Actually, most of the games on GBA are 2D.  However, in my opinion at least, this is more because the GBA can't handle 3d as well as the DS.  Now that FPS and 3D are portable, there will probably be less money put towards making 2D games.  Most of those will probably be remakes as well.  And you can only beat LttP so many times before you want something new.  That's what I'm mostly worried about.

And I don't quite get what you're talking about with the whole tech demo issue.
theres also a new GBA zelda game announced at E3.
(Zelda: The minish Cap)

where have you been man? O_o
Beats the heck out of me :D

Anyway, the minish Cap?  That sounds...well, frankly speaking, fake.  But if it is real, could you give me a link to some stuff on it?
Can't wait. You can also check out gamespot.com.

Get it? Diminish? Hee hee, that makes me laugh.

The Minish cap was actually an item in 4 swords, had the same effect as well.

Capcom has consistantly made good 2d zelda games, so i'm sure i'll love this one as well.
I saw a Minish Cap vid... Looked really good, like a sequel to Wind Waker in terms of graphics :D

The side scrolling Mario seemed interesting. The new Star Fox too

I gotta admit though, I am really looking forward to DK Jungle Beat, you have this conga as a controller and depending how, where you hit it (plus voice recog.) DK moves differently... Finally a workout during a game ;)
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
I didn't like the Orcale games.  :(

I did play through the red one though.

You mean seasons?  Ages was blue, so yyeah, you played seasons.

Those are two very vague names for technologies.

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, the DS has Bluetooth connectivity for short range (was it 50 feet?) multiplayer, and that's it.  Again, I could be very wrong.

The only kind of "other hemisphere" gaming you're going to get would be Internet based, with an 802.11b-g link to an access point sharing teh internet via dhcp.  Do you mean to tell me Nintendo has implemented this shit in the DS?  I'm not sure I care for the idea (and I know my way around 802.11b)

nintendo announced that the DS has wifi, the exact statement of reggie was
"friends not even in the same country, we are announcing WiFi for the DS"

its online. w00t.
Well that's just the thing.  "WiFi" is a meaningless term.  It can be taken to mean several things.

But I get the idea now.  Woot, I guess.

WiFi means it works at WiFi hotspots, wireless broadband wherever those things are.  Shame i doubt theres any around here.  I don't doubt the possibility of them including an ethernet cord jack in the unit though, at least im hoping it will.
Kick frigging ass.  The bakery I go to after class is a Wi-Fi hotspot! :D

WTF?!
Are you aware that Zelda's a FIRST PARTY franchise, and that Capcom's a THIRD PARTY licensee? :?

And are you aware Capcom made the stellar Oracle games on the GBC, and was responsible for the excellent Four Swords minigame on the GBA LttP port?

Just because Zelda's a first party franchise doesn't mean other developers can't take a whack at it, and Capcom has proven themselves worthy, in my eyes.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Are you aware of the big giant Capcom logo that shows up every time you boot up LttP:FS?  :P

Ugh....
Think about what's being said, think about the language.

Only if I had played the game, which I have not. That's why I overreacted. :P

Yup.  I think it looks like a pretty fun game.  I'm still *really* looking forward to the non-cute GameCube Zelda, but the Minish Cap might convince me to get a GBA (I'll probably do it anyway for Metroid: Zero Mission, and Fusion, but having some solid Zelda games also helps, especially considering the state of my finances...)

We get it, we just didn't think it was funny ^_^

Am I the only one who liked the style of Wind Waker?

nah, i also really thought it fit perfectly and was one of the best graphical styles for establing "realism" (not realistic)

but, i also love the new one, i realized i really don't care what zelda looks like, as long as its zelda. pretty just helps.

Damn man, do we disagree on anything?
Quote from SpecialK:

I liked the Wind Waker style just fine.  As a computer geek, I was amazed from a technical standpoint at the cel shading techniques, and they looked pretty good too.  I'll admit that I *prefer* the style seen in the newest previews, but I liked the Wind Waker graphics just fine.

My objection to the Wind Waker was that it wasn't as fun as it could be.  The game turned into a huge item chase: get a map, get lots of rupes, go to Tingle [1], decode map, go to place, get Triforce.  Whoopee....

The controls were excellent, the music was nice, the graphics were very nice (if not in my prefered style), but the game itself just wasn't that fun; at least not for me.

Brad

[1] And what is it with Tingle anyway?  He was freaky enough in Majora's Mask, then they made him even freakier.  Is he there as a lesson for Japanese kids (remember the comment made by the boat/king character about how he "just isn't right"), or what?  Are there people in Japan who dress up in little kid costumes and actually act like that?  Did the game designers just want to throw us a curve ball?
