Right. People associate the wii name with minigame waggle hogwash, and the people actually interested in that crap have long since moved to smart phones.
and while the wii was largely trash, anyone who got turned off to nintendo because of the wii is seriously misguided ... there are dozens and dozens of AMAZING wii games
it's just that there was 20x more garbage than good stuff
I don't get why people trash the wii u, and nintendo in general. I've heard people say that nintendo is for kids and when they get older they ditch it like training wheels. It's almost like they tie their choice in games with their image, like they're worried about what other people will think of them based on what games they like. Now THAT sounds like kid stuff to me. While nintendo is in a severe drought, for me it's where all the lasting games are. There's really nothing on my PS or xbox that I feel like playing more than once.
NoA had to be beaten over the head several times before they brought the Project Rainfall stuff over, not to mention Fatal Frame. They're pretty clueless in general.
it's ok, we don't even have a release date for bravely second while it's been out in japan for 4 months now to be fair, they have a lot of voice dubbing to do but still
You guys are being unnecessarily hard on this game. Just because Other M left a bad taste in your mouth does not mean all future Metroid games will be terrible, and since this is just a spinoff you should not judge it so harshly.
Star Trek: The Next Generation was a spin-off of Star Trek. Mega Man X was a spin-off of Mega Man. Sonic Riders was a spin-off of Sonic the Hedgehog. Portal was originally going to be a spin-off of Half-Life.

Ok but none of those are very good. TNG only had like five good episodes, and never once matched the glory of Original Trek's Space Abe Lincoln and Scotty compulsively shanking all the space hookers on the sex planet.
i think the anger exists not because it's a spinoff but rather because it's a spinoff and we haven't gotten a real metroid game in 5+ years and the last one sucked and it doesn't look like nintendo plans to make another one any time soon
Not very good? NOT VERY GOOD?!? Have you even PLAYED any of those games? As for the Star Trek shows, Next Generation certainly had more than a "few" good episodes, and there is of course Voyager and Enterprise, which were AMAZING shows. You sir have no taste whatsoever.
tbob is wrong because TNG and MMX were both amazing. Kitsune_Phoenix is wrong because DS9 is better than TNG, VOY, or ENT. Ark is right because the context in which a spinoff comes is important.
But also, TNG and MMX were spinoffs that built upon the original properties in ways that made sense and were consistent with the best of what had come before. FF is pointedly ignoring the aesthetics, gameplay, and character that made the good Metroid games good to begin with.

This.
Comparing MP:FF to MMX is kind of crazy. They had plenty of good MM games, and even if MMX was a flop, they'd continue to have a steady flow of good ones.
like, if we were getting MP:FF in between solid metroid games, then absolutely no problem. Look at Zelda, they could EASILY be doing that to Metroid if they wanted to.
