which kind of shows how dumb Other M is, because the dumber a game is, the less Yahtzee has to resort to the same old dick and gay jokes

"Has to"? Please. Dude's as mature as a Baby Sheegoth and almost as smart. He's just funny enough to get away with it.

There's a limit to how much knobs and homosexuality I can laugh at. Other M was the best vid for a long time because it's quite a unique game in terms of the context of the series. He had a lot to say, is what I mean.

I don't even want to know where they could've taken the story.

Probably kept it to a comfortable minimum.
Sakamoto put a technical limitation on them because he wanted them to be creative like they had to be with the original Metroid. The Morph Ball and Ice Beam came about as ways around technical limitations.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Self imposed limitations can be nice and all, but forcing the player to use a suboptimal control scheme in the name of creativity is dumb. Game looks like it'd play amazingly with a Cube controller. It's nice that they were able to pull off what they did to some extent, but lol d-pad in 3d space.

A cube controller would work fairly well actually, though I don't think the X, Y, and Z buttons would have much use... Or the L... or the R... or the C stick... or the D-Pad...

Y button to shoot missiles without stupid gimmicks.

I must say that my ideal changes to Other M's gameplay (not counting writing or linearity) would be to remove the First Person mode (or at least not have it be necessary for missile use - the minus button could have easily been used to open a missile hatch), and give the Space Jump the capability to gain vertical as well as lateral distance.  Oh, and Infinite Bomb and Wall Jumping.

b would have been good for missiles too. i'm actually surprised they didn't use it for anything

Seems like it'd be annoying to hit B with the wiimote sideways.
The minus button, anyone?

have you tried it? it's ... not annoying at all. it's a few millimeters from your fingers on your left hand.
They did use the B-Button for First Person mode.

I have not. It just seems like a somewhat awkward motion given how I'm used to pressing buttons. Like flicking you finger or something.

If your hand cradles the Wiimote either your index or middle finger will be basically resting right on top of it.

I agree with Arc that it's really simple.

One thing I think we all simply forgot about (after Prime) was Samus' age.

She's 14 during Zero Mission, according to Manga.

If we allow even 3 years to pass between ZM and RoS (which leads immediately into SM), that puts her at 17. It's actually very possible her maternal instincts kicked in during RoS.

Though I have to say I prefer the Samus we saw at the end of 75%+ Prime the best.

Agreed. And she looks at least 14-15 in the flashbacks of Other M. So like with most things, the manga is likely full of crap on this.

I refuse to believe Samus is fourteen in ZM.  Have you seen some of those screenshots of her in her zero suit?  Just... no way, man.

Well I can expect it to have to have certain things ret-conned (because the story wasn't all done by one person).

But the Manga and Other M were from Japanese origin (obviously) so it's very likely they attempted to hold as true to that as possible.

Hold on... I'll get the two pages -_-

Could've sworn that Samus was 14 in the early parts of the manga (when she first leaves Zebes to the point where the pirates attack it.) But Zero Mission takes place a few years after that as far as I knew. There's a distinct jump in time in the last few chapters if I remember right.

There has to be a gap in time between when Samus leaves Zebes and Zero Mission. That's when she joins the Feds and serves under Adam.

Yeah ok: Found what I was thinking about.

The start of chapter 13 distinctly says 'A few years later' and the rest of the manga (13 to 16) is the lead in to Zero Mission. Samus had already been part of the federation army in the chapters before this, so this could be the time Other M talks about. Either that or the time between these chapters could be it, although I'm guessing not because it gives the impression Samus is on her own at that point.

It's been a while since I've actually read the whole manga though, so there could be something I'm forgetting.

She's a very, uh... mature 14 year old? Who knows how full of hormones food is in the future, anyway? Or it could be all that Chozo DNA. Birds mature very quickly.

Speaking of which, I wonder is Samus sprouted feathers anywhere, and she hides them with her zero suit.
ANKOKU
To try and rebute Turtle I was gonna say "She's mature for her age!", but I guess having a few years (again I'll grant 3) between leaving Zebes and joining GFed isn't that bad.

That'd put her at 20 (at rough minimum) at the point of RoS. 17 at ZM.

Even though she looks 30 at 75%Prime that makes their placement in the timeline a little more believable.

And at 20, my point stands even more firmly that her maternal instincts could have kicked in with the baby.

@Hitaka
She doesn't have feathers. you see her in shorts and a Tshirt while on Zebes. Unless you wanna hypothesize she grew them when she... developed.

<Samus> Old Bird, where are these coming from?

<Old Bird> Well Samus, there comes a time in every young girl's life that she starts growing feathers in... unusual places. It just means you're growing up!
