Quote from KingBroly:
As far as her interactions with Adam and Ridley, both seem to make sense to me.  I can't really describe it, but I'm like 'yeah, okay, I'll go with that' even in the most stupid of situations.

That's kinda how I feel about it too I guess. It's what I meant with the last line where it made enough sense for me to accept her behavior in both cases. And that's also what I meant about Fusion and the manga more or less as well, because that's that part of Fusion specifically that comes to mind right now. (Where she gets angry at Adam/the Federation after finding the breeding program and learning that they want to take the SA-X alive.)
I like turtles.
The article made some good points and some bad ones, but it didn't touch on the issue that, in my opinion, is the base-breaker for many: the Ridley cutscene.  He basically spouted "PTSD" when he did mention it (in passing) and went back to the other stuff.
Maybe he didn't think it was that big of an issue or didn't fully understand it; his argument was Samus vs. Adam.  The debate about Ridley has been done to death already.  No one's going to change anyone's mind on that.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I do like the implication in the video that the people who take issue with the characterization of Samus are actually sexist and/or racist.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Because obviously they're the ones who see only two possible portrayals of a female character and it has nothing to do with the way Other M was written.
Almost happy

Yeah, that was pretty much the worst part. His strawman argument was a strawman.
Quote from tomatobob:
he's kinda underselling the effect of projection. Metroid is an old series so people have had plenty of time to develop an idea of who Samus is. Nintendo absolutely had to be aware of this and should have found a better way of developing the character.

They could have introduced shades of this character in Fusion, that way you get an idea that she's sort of grown from the Other M events when you look back or set Other M after Fusion so it's a bit less jarring for people. Or set it as a prequel (lol) to Zero Mission that way it doesn't conflict with the entirety of the series afterward. It's really not out of the question or the realm of reason for people to be a bit annoyed with the character's direction. And there are certainly better ways to emphasize the femininity of the character without reaching so much for stereotypes.

A lot of the fan reaction is valid.

I'm quoting this over in this thread k?

Oh man I'm gonna be internet famous!

My god... The best one was the guy saying that it played like a tighter Super Metroid with better art and story. Blew my mind.
Just thought I'd mention that Zero Punctuation got Other M very right and there's a bit of voiceover mocking in there which is spot-on. One of the better reviews for a while, actually.
which kind of shows how dumb Other M is, because the dumber a game is, the less Yahtzee has to resort to the same old dick and gay jokes
I think I said this when I linked to TGO in the who-else-is-disappointed thread, but I get the distinct impression that he never played Metroid Fusion, and is passing judgement accordingly.

Here's a link to the Zero Punctuation one, too --> http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/2015-Metroid-Other-M
I like Other M, but the only thing I can disagree with him on is the controls, which I found to be awesome.  Oh, and there is "one" new power-up in this game.
red chamber dream
using a d-pad to move in 3 dimensions is "awesome"?
ANKOKU
Pretty sure the only limitation the controls have placed upon you is you can't shinespark Diagonally.

Other than that, yes, the controls ARE awesome.
You don't really have to move diagonally that much in this game.  Like Corruption, it works around the flaws of the controller in a very good way for an enjoyable experience.
red chamber dream
yeah but if they had just used the fucking nunchuk there would be no flaws at all

But that doesn't mean there aren't inherent flaws

seriously Team Ninja would have made Other M so awesome if they'd done it alone.

agreed

Or a Gamecube controller.

Edit - Come to think of it, I wish more Wii games let you just play them with a goddamn Gamecube controller.
red chamber dream
nah the first person stuff is pretty cool, they just could have implemented it better

"Has to"? Please. Dude's as mature as a Baby Sheegoth and almost as smart. He's just funny enough to get away with it.

Um...I'm sorta on the fence about that.  I'm still not sure where the authorization thing came from, and I'm not sure who designed the levels/layout.  But then again, they came up with idea of making the game work with only the d-pad (but later tried to go back on that).  I don't even want to know where they could've taken the story.
