You should do what my bro did. 4 E-Tanks, 1 Reserve, and only used the Charge/Ice/Wave/Plasma Combo (Didn't use the Power Wave because he didn't know about it, or else it would be too risky). Lucky survivor.

Stupidly enough, on a run on Ridley, I tried to Crystal Flash when he was almost dead, not knowing I had reserves on. The Power Bomb flashed, I lost my main life, but as I recharged, he kept flashing from the damage (because he held me), then he died.

Power Wave combo isn't worth the effort to do if you have plasma+ice+wave. Just use your super missiles than your charged shots.

I'll only save ten Super Missiles, just for the Crystal Flash. When I saw the preview for Saturn's RBO run, why does he save just 10 missiles?

I'm not entirely sure why Saturn saved 10 missiles at that point, after a lot of thinking the best I came up with is that since he needs to do a Crystal Flash at draygon he saved 10 missiles so that he would never need to pick up any on the way there. Thus he could focus on getting super drops.

Also about that Wave PB combo thing. Even if you could consistently hit ridley with all 4 particles (I assume this is hard) it only deals at most 600 damage per second. Plasma/Ice/Wave does 900 per second, Supers does 1800 per second.

Got a new 100% over the weekend.. new, better rout but much harder so of course, I have lotsa little (and not so little) mistakes.

i don't get it. my old record is 45 minutes before learning the spore spawn skip, mockball, and a myriad of other tricks, and after not playing for 2 years, i can't seem to get my time below 50. hell, that was when i used bomb jumps instead of wall jumps even

I just finished my first ever speedrun of this game...
any% in :46 with 27% items.
I did it in 11 really short segments with pretty much no planning ahead, took me about 3 days total with following the world record route I think.
The last segment was a real bitch... at the last save point I had only 30 missiles and 10 supers so that wasn't enough to make it through all the zebetites and mother brain and I had to look up how to do the damn zebetite glitch just so I could finish! After this I got a couple of :47 finishes so I went back and looked up how to do the murder beam. On my first try I finally got my :46, heh.
The whole thing gives me a shit-ton more respect for the pros with their low :30 times, crazy bastards.
edit: omg you can use the murder beam on ridley too? that could save me like 2 or 3 minutes alone... on this run I spent like a minute filling up on super missiles and health in the room before him. I need to do a new run

It should save time if you, like he said he did, need to refill a lot before him.

Still I think It'd be better to make a save at the red ki-hunters and tackle him with whatever you have without refilling, the elite pirates should get you plenty enough. It might take a few more tries but will be worth it.

Oh, didn't see the part about refilling. Still, if you're low on Supers, what's wrong with just using plasma?

Well supers damage him faster and I'm guessing his problem is to stay alive, more supers = easier fight.

Finally got a point card, so I downloaded this from the Virtual Console earlier today

2:17 with 51% items obtained. I don't think it's too bad of a time for someone who's only played through SM a couple times.

EDIT: Shaved a good amount of time and items off of my previous score ...

Time - 1h:38min with 35% items. :D

Got 55 mins with 38%. I've been obsessed with NBMB's for so long I've forgotten how to fight the bosses. laugh new

YES! I just achieved my best 100% time ever! 1:20 !! No real glitches, just speed moves, and I did it on the VC. Also I think I saved a minute at the end by purposely running into Mother Brain after I blew up her jar so that I could lower my energy intentionally. That way she only delivered one charge before the Metroid showed up, usually it takes her three charges before I dont get up again. Thanks to those who gave me mockball help and shinesparking tips.

finally completed a 14% game (ice beam instead of speed booster), clear time was 1:28.
only real trouble was with ridley and mother brain. ridley took a lot more tries and was harder, but mother brain was more tedious as there is so much less room for error as you fire 200 charged shots into her face and one hand beam means game over... with ridley you can knock out almost half of his health all at once with missiles, super missiles, and power bombs. doing this you even get to bypass his fastest most erratic phase, so it's really saying a lot that he's still harder...

Nice time LeCoureur, especially if that was your first 14%. Not much slower than Smokey's old time.

In other news, I resumed my run and finally got :10 at Red Brinstar. There were probably about 5-10 seconds worth of mistakes in the segment, but it still puts me on track for :31, and since this is a very difficult segment, I'm moving on.

My best time for 100% is 1:05. Just got that yesterday but I've been work towards that for awhile. Im hoping to get it down to 1hr or below.
I haven't done an any% run in a couple years but i think my time was :48 or :50.
