Exactly what I wanted to hear. :P

Anyway, I got back to speedrunning this game and got a 1.04 100% run on PAL-version of this game. I did everything like BlueGlass's route said, got the unassisted Gauntlet shine too. I opened the door first shot.  :-D

I think on NTSC-version I could see sub hour as a possible goal.
Great work!  I'm glad my route could be helpful to someone (besides myself, obviously)
It is, but you might wanna check out a few smv's of minor minor tricks I found out while playing my run. Btw I could've gotten easily under 1.04 if I didn't screw up with accidentally saving in Norfair main street after Maridia item collection (very slow) and I didn't optimize the segments too much, mostly boss fights like Botwoon 1 round, Phantoon 2 rounds, etc.

First smv shows how to not get hit by that fire thing there when you come away from kagoball room short charge mockball, and doesn't lose any time in fact I hope it would save some.

Second smv shows an easy way to open that last room in the Dachora room and get to the next room without losing any momentum, and as you still have to morph in the next room when falling down I think it's ok timesaver. I'm not sure if you can just shoot and run on NTSC but on PAL the door opens too slow.

Also, I uploaded a demonstration of your Gauntlet shine on Youtube using your asmv BlueGlass, I hope you don't mind.

Not really sure what's different in the first smv.  I mean, obviously you're not getting hit by the flames, but is it because of a slightly faster movement speed, or what?  As for the second smv, that's actually how I do that room normally, but it's also possible to do a very short hop, then mockball, as seen in (IIRC) both RS's and Hotarubi's runs.
The first smv is showing that if getting hit by the flames is slower you can use spring ball to avoid the hit thus being faster, and I think it works if your speed is that slow you would normally hit the flames without using spring ball.

This is only a thought and even if it'd be faster I don't think it'd save more than a second if even that, why don't you tell me if this is of any use?
I've gotten my time down to 1:29 - 100%.

The hardest/longest part is getting the Springball without the Grapple beam.  I have to abuse save states and invoke slo-mo.

I've been sequence breaking skipping Crocomire and the Grapple beam and getting those (pretty close to) last.

It likely only saves a few frames at most.  The only time lost is from the knockback from the hit, which is very brief, so I'm guessing that avoiding the flames saves something like a quarter of a second maximum.
The best times I've managed:
Any%: 0:57, ~28%
100%: 1:37

I'm not usually one to try speed running, but SM, Fusion, and ZM are exceptions.
First post  :-D

Been playing SM for over 10 years now, but never got 100% until a year or so ago.  Used to get around 1:40 with like 40 or 50% items.  But I've been doing alot of 100% speedruns lately, yesterday I set a mark for myself at 1:15, beating the snot out of my 1:21...although I missed a single stupid missile pack that wouldn't have added more than 10 seconds to my time (green door in main bubbly room norfair), so it doesn't really count...

The 1:15 is single segment, completely non-tas, but played on emu.  I've hit 1:09 with savestates before but never used slowdown/mem watch/any of that stuff... I plan on buying a console soon (ours was sold many years ago) so I might put together a proper run...
Took a break from hacking and had a little console type fun.

100% 1:19

Could've been better, could've been worse. Not bad considering I haven't played on the console in about a year. Finally managed to get the springball without grapple, which saved a lot of clean up time.

Edit...I just did a 1:08, which was about as perfect as I can get it...if I fix all my little mistakes I -might- be able to shave off 3 minutes or so.  After I finished it I was hoping for a 1:04 or so, something that I could work on to get under a minute... Now I can fully understand why Red Scarlet didn't go back and fix all her tiny little mistakes; I think 1:08 is about the best I can do.  I really appreciated her time already, but the closer I try to get, the farther away it seems...  hers is just an amazing run... anyways, I'll have mine on google video soon.  Does anybody even do non-tas anymore???  grin new

Here's my 1:08

Best time:  100% 1:23
I feel so epic now!

I got 0:36 25% in single segment.
Woah! Congrats that's an awesome time.

my best is 1:01
39% items

i cant pull off the zebitites glitch.
PLZ HELP
my best time so far:

1:13 with 59% of the items.

My run was done single-segment with no emulator cheats (like slow-frame) with no restarts.

You people getting sub one hour times without any cheats or restarts really blow my mind.

Simple: discard half the items. It's not hard to survive with just 5 etanks, and 15-20 super meissiles is just enough to kill most bosses quick enough.

first sub1:00
I did my first 100% speedrun today and got 2:08. I'm sure I could cut a good 30 to 40 minutes off of that. I forgot where some of the items were.  laugh new
Hated by all
You guys are lucky. 02:16 on 100%, NTSC version with the old school cartridge (Yes, with the old school stuff. I need to go faster). My bro was able to get 1:30, 7 Energy Tanks, 1 Reserve Tank, 100 Missiles, 25 Super Missiles, 10 Power Bombs, Grappling Beam.
I'm still old schooling it up when I play. <3 my cart.
70-something%: 1:35

100%: 1:59

I know. I'm kinda a noob. I give myself kudos though cause last weekend I didn't even know where 100% of the items were. Heh.
WOOT!!!

00:58 with 44% of the items.

First time i ever broke 1 hour so i'm very happy about this.

I don't know how much more i could cut out....  Ripley with 5 e-tanks was a bitch.
Speed running is all about knowledge. The more you know about Ridley, the easier Ridley will be.
Well I haven't gotten a segment in my speedrun in a while but I was just messing around and just played from my latest save point to the end.  I got 1:04 with 100%, I just REALLY hope I can make up 5 minutes from that to get a sub hour 100%, but its doubtful  :(
