btw, updates for games should be deleteable. i hope they aren't tied to your savefile (i bet they'll do something evil like that and force us to lose our saves if we refuse the update and want to get rid of it)

I don't really see many 'updates' to games occurring given the limited amount of storage space on the Wii. If you are really concerned, you can always back your save files up on a memory card before updating.

This isn't like updating a PC game where you have many gigs of space to work with.

i see

but i think they would just add instructions like "lock X door until ice beam get" and those don't eat much memory.
as far as i know, only those updates that add new data to a game are big.

but then, there's updates like the mysterious new Star Fox 64 update which just consumes 10 extra blocks and has no difference with the previous version. it also renders your backed up SF64 rom unusable since the system won't copy it back once you've done the update once.
well, speed running is only a test of memory and ability to be one with the control. Sort of moots the rest of the game. Oh, also emphasizes ingenuity in path choice.
But Retro is Austin based, where i live a lot. It's the "town of the wierd' and people tend to harbor pride for their own creativity, either that or are very 'Dell-oriented' so to speak. Maybe this relates to Retro's attitude?

I thought that update was to make the emulation more accurate (eg slowdown).

i noticed the same slowdown when i replayed it.
