that has got to be one of the coolest/wierdest things I've ever seen from prime, ever. now if the technique in question is SDA legal as well as useful in either skipping items or collecting items much faster than it would take normally ( I know that the main PB skip has been mentioned, but think of how much faster it would be to grab the main PB as opposed to running the morph ball maze )

so as far as the legality of the technique in question, I will leave that in the hands of SDA to decide. possibly hope for an answer to that question to appear in this thread when a desicion is reached.
Sweet.  Sounds like a nifty glitch.  I'll post more after I watch the video.

Good job ZED and Mr Potter for finding this out and making it available.

Do power bomb expansions add percent if you don't have the actual power bombs? If not, then 20% seems likely.

I didn't see anyone answer ya here, so...  Yes, they do.  They're the reason why my 22% game ended as a 23%...  Evil or Very Mad

From what I remember, if you get 3 of the 4 PB expansions you still get 1%. But of you collect the four pb exps BEFORE the main one, once you collect the 4 you lose 4% until you collect the main pb's.

This is going on memory, so I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.
just to add to the documentation, I used the glitch to collect the burn dome missile expansion without bombing the tunnel (this is the PAL edition):

http://www.metroid2002.com/grenola/flickerball_burn_dome_MX__enc.avi

Once through the door, I have to muck about a bit trying to get the ball to spin right. When it does, the interlacing makes a mockery of my 30 fps capture (hence "flickerball" and the weird blurry effect).
Okay, I'll add that video to the list.

In my original post, I mentioned this glitch can change room states. Well, I must apologize... it cannot do that. If it could, it would be able to change Chozo Ruins water and would let me into Sunchamber after Flaaghra, but before getting Wild. It doesn't. Sorry for any confusion it may have caused.

According to Master ZED, the morph ball returns to normal when you get to the OP fight. Too bad. I'm still going to check it out myself, though.
How and where did you fid this out? Just by accident or were bored and tried to find glitches? Laughing
Very nice dicovery though, now if you use this throughout the whole game whats the lowest possible percent?

Dunno yet. Artifact temple isnt responding...

2 Questions:

1.Could you activate the roof raise cutscene in Geo core using this?

2.Why does the game do this?
Not sure if I'm right, but I'm getting from what Mr. Potter is saying that this glitch only nabs items in the room; it doesn't activate cut scenes.  However, if collecting the item is what activates the cut scene, then so it is.

Take the two vids we have as proof of this.  Artifact Temple, the collection of that Artifact activates that cut scene.  But in the Burn Dome, it simply collects the Missile Expansion.
Now someone try collecting the wave beam before fighting the sheegoth or something similar with another required item (who knows, maybe the artifact of warrior is spawned before the phazon elite fight, just not after).
I finally did Artifact Temple after gettting it's artifact.  All it does is show the cutscene that normally happens when you walk under the central pillar (it's just a quick view from above).  So it can launch cutscenes.

Mr Potter says that Geo Core gives lava damage if you try the light show glitch there.  My guess for how these glitches come into being is that overly boosting/spinning the morphball overflows a speed value, and that this buffer overflow affects ... something.

Master ZED is the one who discovered this family of glitches.  He was going hog wild in Echoes seeing what happens when the map is on the other room (using SWs to do so).  He then found that barely entering the room could bring about the same things.  It wasn't until doninss started making videos that we understood what the crazy posts were about, however. :)  (Correct me if I'm wrong about any of that.) Here are the first of doninss' highly amusing Prime videos:

We need a name for this awsome trick. Soul ball....Energy ball...or maybe something to do with the energy showing and flicky flicker ness.

Btw. I like the Scan lines in the morphball in that vid.
I prefer what djgrenola named it in his vid title - flickerball.
lol ... they've unlocked interlaced scanning mode. >_<

Do you guys think that using that movement shown in doniss's videos could lead to a new type of dash?

Err, It IS a dash, but do you think it could be used in any way?
lol no way
I'm trying the flickerball in the introduction to MP2 in a meeger effort to skip the item loss; I more just don't want to do my homework, but in any case I've managed to get stuck in the wall in between Hive Tunnel and Hive Chamber A.

It's not that hard to get stuck in the wall.

I tried to get the infinite speed, but It seems that I can't get on this Point where Morphball stops spinning and begins to dissapear.
How to find that point? I tried over an hour and can't get it!

It would be TEH Glitch for Skipping Item Loss.

Master ZED used it to find an alternate entrance into the SW from Landing Site. With SkippyJr's help, I was then able to get into the SW from Frigate Crash Site.

Hive Tunnel (MP2) is an excellent place to try the IS glitch. Ease around the door frame from Hive Tunnel (to the right) and move to the corner while hugging the wall. Hold the R button and rotate left to put the cross-hair about a foot to the right of the big crate near the bulletin board. Morph. (If the camera goes overhead, start over.) Put the stick at down-right. If the ball doesn't speed up, rotate the stick very slighty (usually clockwise) until it does. Once the ball spins to a stop (double framed), wait without moving the stick. When the armor sheds, boost lighly to escape the wall.

lol no way
Haha, figures, it works for you no trouble... how do you know what angle to aim the visor before morphing? I have a lot of trouble getting it to work...

I put the cross-hair just to the right of the big crate that sits next to the bulletin board. The link at bottom of my last post is to a vid of it.
How do you exit 'flickerball mode' after you enter it?

Unmorphing just turns the game into a fancy kaleidoscope.

[edit]alright, I tried getting to Omega Research with a flickerball (to try to see if you can get the artifact of warrior without fighting the phazon elite), but doing the glitch from either ore processing/waste disposal or ore processing/storage depot leaves a white door in the way.  And afaik, you can't get rid of it...

You can't do it from either door in security access B (both are vertical, and afaik, those are impossible), and you can't do it from either door in research access (I tried).  If I'm wrong on either count, someone could try this.
I finally managed to try it in the Omega Pirate room during the fight. I have some very bad news: during the fight, boosting only makes the morph ball return to normal, but you still get the light show if you unmorph. Before the fight, it activates the cutscene where the fight starts.

If anyone still wants to try this, the method I've used to slow down quick enough is to do the glitch normally until the white orb shows up. If you boost away, you'll go too far and the door will close. What I've always done is lay a bomb. Right as it explodes, boost. You'll just do a little hop into the air and be wall-free. Then you need to have the Elite Quarters Access door already shot to get through it. Then you'll find an X-ray skip is still hopeless.

I haven't tried triggering the Phazon Elite yet. I'm checking out the possibilities in MP2. So far, the glitch in Hive Entrance DOES NOT give you the key; instead, it resets the game.

EDIT: Updated original post. Too bad this glitch doesn't have anything useful we can use it for...
Whoa it works. On the cut scean to impact crater you can get two samuses because it show the going and coming back cut sceans!  8)  awsome.
