Retrospecting over the show, it's definitely been something special. I nearly skipped watching anime altogether while it was on (helped by that I started with, like, 18 episodes), but I've had no real problems going back to it. It's something else entirely, yes, but it's not like I'll stop enjoying something I enjoyed before just because I watched this.
Yeah I'm not trying to bad-mouth anime or anything like that. A decent metaphor I can think of is this: Watching anime for me was like eating burger king. I was never much of a burger person, but burger king's burgers seemed to be good and I liked them. But then here comes FiM, and it's like the Brunos in comparison (or insert some other good resturant that serves good burgers). After having a totally awesome burger its hard to go back to just eating the meh burgers you get from burger king. Again, I'm not bad mouthing anime, it's just I think MLP really spoiled me in a way that anime can't. Over time and after not watching MLP for awhile I might get back into it, but I honestly can't see that happening for a long time.
A good example would be to watch Twilight's face while she's trying to give a speech. Her facial expressions are very vivid, ear movements, the eyes, mouth, etc. But with anime you can watch literally an entire episode and the amount of facial expressions won't even come close to that minute or so. It's not because anime is bad, it's just a lot more limited than what they can do with this show, especially since it's made in flash and stuff.
And now for something unrelated to the above. The guy below bought something like 400 blind bags. H sells them to bronies on ponychan, but he decided to stop the business after this final order. I really really really hate the fact that they don't sell these blind bags in the US because I really really want the sparkle ones. The local Kmart has NO pony merchandise that I've seen either, Toys R Us is extremely limited, and since I don't have my drivers license yet I can't drive anywhere else.
