From my experience it depends on from which side you are boosting against the crates. For example if I boost into the the "alternative crates" right behind the standard crates after you messed up at the standard crates I only get crashes when boosting from the same direction as I did for the standard crates.
I´m not sure ( because I´m very new ), but I think lowering the helmet opacity to 0 helps ???(at least HUD doesn´t get look that strange with those black bars then)? I also turn off HUD lag (whatever that is, but it sounds bad).
Also I´m reloading the room and then get IS and do ILS right after that, but I think that is just preference and just faster, but make sure you are reloading the room correctly, so you have to wait for the door to open.
I don´t think the crates at the spot where you get IS matter for this trick, but I pretty much never destroy them anyways.
Another thing I noticed is that holding slightly forward and medium boost is not any required. You can also easily do ILS by fully forward or do a fully charged boost.
Finally try a bit around with different crates and positions. Maybe you get more success with different crates.

Maybe someone else can give you a more detailed explanation on how the trick actually works and give better advice.

I hope I could help ya.

@Kirbymastah I figured most of that stuff out myself already messing around with it >_> (I hate that shit digger for it already) , but I guess I still have to mess with it more to get more consistent with it and will try out the damage thingie. Thank you ^^
Ah thank you very much, apparently I was not reloading the room correctly and didn't realize it until you gave your post. Thanks to your advice, my success rate for this trick has shot up tremendously. :D

Now to practice Aether jumps and Out-of-Bounds travel (which thankfully, Aether jumps don't seem to be as difficult as I initially suspected, just a little frustrating).

Also, are you by any chance EternisedDragon or Aran;Jaeger? The name E-Dragon seems very coincidentally similar to a member of the Super Metroid community (especially since we're on a Metroid Speedrunning forum). Anyway, thanks again.
almost Schmeman, ED is my brother. Regarding the name ... it´s a long story.

anyways, glad I could help ya ^^

Having some trouble on a Randomizer seed. I'm in Dark Agon (Doomed Entry atm) and I need to get to Battleground to get Light Beam. I currently have:
-Dark Beam
-Grapple Beam
-Screw Attack
-Power Bombs
-Dark Visor
-Echo Visor
-Violet Translator
-Amber Translator
-Cobalt Translator
-Various Keys (no full set)
and the stuff I started with.

Thankfully I haven't saved back here.

I tried using Screw Attack to get out in Bitter Well but can't seem to get Samus into the tunnel. Dunno if this is one that doesn't work or if I'm just not doing it right. Are there any SWs I can use to get to Battleground?

On a seperate note: I can't do the Echo puzzle in Mining Plaza. What's the trigger for letting me do that puzzle?
You should be able to get oob in Watering Hole. http://www.metroid2002.com/prime2/index.php?title=Watering_Hole_SW

Sweet, got it. Harder than it looks, though that may just be a lack of skill on my part :)

Thanks

Randomizer question: So I'm trying to get Cobalt Translator from Dynamo Works. I have SA so I'm using the SW in Dynamo Works to get to the PB door, but I've only loaded it once (randomly) and I can't seem to understand where the loading trigger is, or how to load the room with the Dark Aether portal. Any tips? (And yes I know about the instant morph trick in Dynamo Works to get the item. I don't want to do that.)
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
wouldn't coming from the front after using OoB to get past the cobalt gate solve this?
That's what I did, but I'd still like to know how to perform the trick.

Not sure if this is the right topic, but i wanted to ask miles if he can manage to make savestates work on console, i'd really like to practice with states on it and eventually start speedrunning this game much more seriously at some point.

I used savestates on dolphin to practice and it worked out pretty well actually.
Of course you can't practice everything on dolphin well like air underwater since dolphin lags as hell when you enter or leave a waterbox, but for the most important things like GA, bosses practice etc. it works, but of course it all depends on how strong your PC is.
I'll see if I can make the GA practice save file work on PAL with a little hex edit.
Update: I couldn't get it to work. I may look a bit more into it, but it's probably hopeless.

Also there is miles' echoes menu mod where you can warp to any rooms and change layers, which seems to be a good enough imo.

i think on dolphin there is a small input lag, which could be a problem if you ran this game at a high level, having states on console like you can in sm64 would be just amazing. But yeah if noone can pull it off i guess ill have to practice with dolphin when im back :/ - Hope someone finds a way. (a gecko OS code probably)

The input lag can actually get pretty low on Dolphin. For best results, use exclusive fullscreen and disable XFB. Dolphin's native support for GameCube adapters is good for keeping the latency down, but I don't know how it compares to other control methods. Of course, what monitor you're using is also an important factor. This is mostly based on what I've heard from Smash players – they care a lot about latency for fairly obvious reasons.

so, i found out some stuff about my monitor, its called "QNIX QX2710 Evolution ll" and it has a input lag of exactly 22 ms. (according to this page, scroll almost all the way down -> http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/qnix_qx2710.htm )
1 frame at 60 fps equals 33,3(...) ms, so if my setup is good otherwise i should roughly have the same input lag than on gamecube right?
My monitor runs at 59 hertz, i could overclock my monitor to 120 hertz AFAIK, so will there be a difference or is it fine?
Should i overclock my monitor, or will i probably end up having smaller input lag than on a tv? i could imagine that being a bit annoying sometimes.

I read (here - https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/2688/killing-input-lag-the-perfect-pc-setup-guide ), that an optimal setup for dolphin+gc controller runs at 18 ms, with an rts (which has ~8ms of input lag) which would mean 32ms with my monitor, being almost exactly like a tv, so if thats true then that'd be pretty neat.

My specs are pretty old (2010), but still pretty good: CPU: AMD phenom t1100 (6x3.3 ghz), geforce 580 gtx, 8gb ram. i will also stream everything with obs, but it should be fine.
1 frame at 60 fps is 16ms, not 33ms. 33ms is for 30 fps.
MP2 also a bit MP1 speedrunning
that's true, but i read this on the page: " for rendering and input interpretation compared to a GameCube's hardware-bound t=33.33ms on a 60hz CRT TV. "
That should mean that you have (at least) 33.33... ms of input lag on gc.
But yeah, 1 frame is 16.6... ms at 60 fps, was just derping there.
