Well, for the times I've found them really quickly, it actually works pretty decently. Doesn't really kill the flow, just kinda forces you into Samus' shoes to do something that would be obvious from her end.
people who say this game looks like an N64 games must have owned a different N64 than the one i have.
the 2D games have some cheap death iirc. Tourian in ZM is pretty fucked up for example. the devs probably focused on the 2D games mostly since Sakamoto himself just ignored the prime series for better or worse.
Well, the N64 comparison is a strictly non-technical exaggeration. But, there are definitely graphical moments that predate the gamecube.
The cheap deaths in Other M are often more frustrating since there's literally nothing you can do to avoid them. Tourian was hard, yeah, but this is a pretty consistent frustration throughout the game. (although it was particularly bad in the lava area).
One thing no one's brought up yet though in their reviews of the games are the QTEs
They aren't like RE4's QTEs but they're for use of the Dodge mechanic. Personally I rather enjoy that add in. Cause what kind of enemy isn't going to immediately jump your ass when you waltz into it's lair?
So I've almost beaten the game- I'm up to the final fight (I assume). More impressions:
- Story is actually pretty good. Some nice twists, surprisingly complex, Samus's character actually does get some nice development... although it started off Shaky, after the final scene with Adam I actually kind of appreciated where she was coming from. It definitely succeeded in humanizing her, at least.
- Boss fights are great, ESPECIALLY the ones near the end. Really, the whole game is justified by it's boss fights. I'd play through it just for them.
- Cutscenes sure look nice.
- Now that I'm more used to the controls I'm not as annoyed by them. Combat is pretty fun and I enjoy it a lot.
Overall I'm liking this game more than I was. I think I might actually play through this again.
bad voice acting is pretty much inexcusable these days. videogames have budgets now.
this goes for writing, too. Just go to some place of learning, get a nerdy literature student and say "write us some speakey stuff". Whack their name in the credits, give em a few bob. Sorted.

again, the problem for that is Sakamoto himself since he wanted everything to go the way he wanted (he wrote the story). i don't doubt they would have done that if he wasn't in charge.
You mean something like making another game to explain some of the unresolved issues? That might be pretty neat...almost as if to make it some kind of series....
jk I'm not even sure on the subplots in question you're referring to. >.>
It seems nobody's sure on the word used for the sneaky bad guy. I thought it was 'deleader', which seemed to make some sense in a 'misleading' kinda way, rather than 'deleter', or its varients.
Answering the question of who the Deleater is and wraping up the subplot in a satisfying way are two different things. The whole issue was resolved offscreen with no involvement from, or ultimate impact on, Samus herself. That is NOT how you do things in this kind of fiction.
