If it did I must have missed it when I was testing things earlier. What would really be nice would be if it was setup more like the Stadium games where, yeah, you could see the other team but then would have to choose the best 3 for the job without knowing what the other player is going to choose.
so with round robin would everyone just battle everyone, and then the people who won the most would battle, or? I've never done a round robin tournament before
yep. after everyone plays everyone else once, the person with the most wins in the winner. if there are multiple people with the same number of wins, do the same thing again with just those people.
double round-robin is just playing everyone twice ... i think this might be overkill/take too long though.
I'm just kinda torn between round robin and the other style of tournament (the one where the winner of a fight fights the other winner of a fight etc). The only problem with the second way is not everyone gets to play each other, but since it's not like we're really having an official tournament or anything it doesn't matter. round robin sounds good.
I've got mine on my profile page, but I'll put the one I'll likely be using for this up in a moment.
And yeah, being able to fight against everyone is definitely a good idea in my mind. So another Round Robin vote here. (Besides, aren't there only seven of us participating at the moment? Kind of hard to do it the other way since we've got an odd number of people interested in this.)
Ok, here's the code for my Black version, which happens to be where most of the team I want to use is so I figure rather than trading them all over to White I'll just use this one: 4727 7735 1752

yeah lol. my brother might participate which would make a bracket tournament viable, but round robin is way cooler. looks like it already won the poll too, so round robin it is!
no using bag items (pokemon may hold items of course)
Pretty sure simply turning off "Wonder Launcher" in the settings will fix it so we can't use those. Otherwise I think you get a point each turn and then can spend your turn buying from a list or something, which isn't what we're going for.
And isn't there a fourth of those Type A/Fighting ones not listed on your ban list? Yeah, here it is: Keldeo (647 - Water/Fighting) It's odd that they have one of them as an event pokemon, but it's still a legendary isn't it?
forgot to include "no dream world abilities" in the rules. since the dream world isn't available in the us yet, allowing them wouldn't be fair to those without japanese copies of the game.
Oh yeah... some people might have copies from Japan. I never even considered that until now. Now seeing those event pokemon on the ban list makes sense, heh.
I'm new here and I decided to join after being a reader for years.
I've been playing for around 7 years competitively so I think I can comment. I think the ban list is a little ridiculous.
"generation 5 pokemon only" - Just because there isn't a tier list? The only uber suspects I can think of that aren't legends are Salamence and Garchomp, why don't you just handpick a few that are known to be suspects? That way, we can have hundreds of more options to use for the battles. Wouldn't that be much more convenient? You can still choose to ban things that might be broken. I just think it's a little weird to ban things like Magikarp and Butterfree or whatever.
"since there aren't any tier lists out there yet, we're just going to ban all legendaries and older pokemon." I mostly agree with this, but is it really sensible to ban all of them?
Victini for example is obviously not very good. It's weak to Stealth Rock, and it's typing is pretty bad (Fire / Psychic, both of which aren't the best types in the world). Another example, Kyurem has gone down from OU to BL because of it's very poor and redundant typing (Ice / Dragon) and it has a very very poor movepool, and it's also weak to Stealth Rock.
I don't want to start a debate or anything, but I think the ban list should be reconsidered. That said, if it is, I might consider joining.
I'm guessing that, if this goes well enough and we all enjoy it, there may be more tournaments/competitions eventually and if that's the case some of these restrictions may be ignored or modified at that time. I know I wouldn't have a problem doing this again if it works out well enough for us. (Even if it's just something like the occasional battle or two.)
My guess for the reason the current ban list is setup the way it is now is due to Black and White being new and the fact that most of us probably haven't had enough of a chance to get a good grasp on how the 5th gen compares to those before it. (Unless someone has a copy from Japan and has been playing for a few months more than the rest of us, anyway.) Well, that and the fact that anyone who has Black and/or White would most likely have their in-game team at the very least.
Personally, I don't mind that it's only the 5th gen. Gives me a chance to check them out on a semi-even battlefield without worrying about any of the known teams, strategies, or the like. Plus, this gives them all a chance in the spotlight before things like the tiers come in and effect people's perspectives on who is good and who isn't.
